Oregon stays put in the USA TODAY Coaches poll after win in Berkeley

The Ducks stay put at No. 8 in the USA TODAY coaches poll as there were no major upsets in college football last week.

The top eight teams in the country managed to avoid upsets this past weekend and the USA TODAY Coaches poll reflects that.

Oregon is still No. 8 in the country, but USC moved up two spots and is on the Ducks’ heels at No. 9. The Trojans were given quite the scare in the desert, but held off Arizona 45-37.

UCLA moved up four big spots to No. 11 after its big 38-13 win over Stanford and Utah comes in at No. 12 with its 21-17 win over Washington State in the Palouse. But the status of starting quarterback Cam Rising is in question after he missed the Cougar game with some kind of knee injury.

The first USA TODAY men’s basketball poll is out with the Pac-12 mostly MIA

The first USA TODAY men’s basketball coaches poll came out for the 2022-23 season and the Pac-12 is mostly MIA.

College basketball is cyclical and for the beginning of the 2022-23 men’s basketball season, the coaches don’t seem too impressed with the Pac-12.

Just three teams from the Conference of Champions are in the first USA TODAY men’s basketball coaches poll of the year.

UCLA, Arizona and Oregon are all ranked. USC received votes, but that was it. Defending champion Kansas is No. 5 and national runner-up North Carolina will begin the season as the No. 1 team in the country.

The basketball poll is much more fluid than the football poll and no doubt, other teams not even mentioned in the first poll will be ranked sometime this season.

No. 3 Houston will come to Matthew Knight Arena on Nov. 20 and the Ducks will play either No. 19 Alabama or Michigan State in the Phil Knight 85 Invitational in Portland Nov. 25.

Oregon moves up two spots in USA TODAY Sports coaches poll after win over UCLA

The Ducks are firmly in the Top 10 of the USA TODAY coaches poll after their 45-30 win over UCLA.

We all knew the Oregon Ducks football team would move up in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Top 25 Poll after their win over UCLA. The only question was by how much.

The answer is two spots. The Ducks are ranked No. 8 in the nation, according to the newest poll. This is the highest Oregon has been ranked this season.

UCLA tumbled five spots to No. 15 and USC just missed the Top 10 while on its bye week. The Trojans are No. 11 in the land.

Utah also had a bye week and moved up one spot to No. 14. Those are the only Pac-12 schools that made the rankings. With its win over Colorado, Oregon State (6-2) gathered 21 votes.

Oregon, UCLA move into the Top 10 ahead of GameDay arriving in Eugene

Oregon vs. UCLA is a top-10 matchup with “College GameDay” coming to Eugene.

It took five games and a bye for the Oregon Ducks football team to climb back into the top 10.

Thanks to USC’s 43-42 loss at Utah and Penn State getting smashed at Michigan, Oregon is now No. 9 in the nation, according to the most recent USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Coincidentally, the Ducks’ next opponent, a 6-0 UCLA team, also had a bye and is the beneficiary of the miseries of the Trojans and Nittany Lions. The Bruins are now ranked No. 10.

It’s perfect timing for both the Ducks and the Bruins: ESPN “College GameDay” will be at Autzen Stadium on Oct. 22. The matchup turns out to be a game of the Pac-12 two best teams and might be Game 1 between these two powerhouses.

Win or lose, both teams control their own paths to the Pac-12 title game in Vegas. Utah is coming to Eugene later in the season, and UCLA has to play the Trojans.

Ducks take a big jump in the coaches poll after upset win over BYU

Oregon jumped six spots to No. 18 in the latest USA TODAY Coaches poll after defeating BYU.

The Oregon Ducks football team’s journey on the USA TODAY Coaches poll is quickly beginning to resemble a roller coaster.

They started the season at No. 12 but fell to No. 24 after the beating the Ducks took in Atlanta. Oregon stayed there with the rout over Eastern Washington, but has jumped to No.18 after the big win over BYU.

The loss put a damper on BYU’s season; the Cougars dropped nine spots to No. 23.

As for the Pac-12, USC moved up a spot to No. 7 as did No. 14 Utah. But it was Washington that made the biggest jump. The Huskies received just six votes last week. After its big win over Michigan State, Washington is now No. 24.

Oregon’s next opponent, Washington State just missed the Top 25, receiving 55 votes. Oregon State also just missed the poll with 57 votes, but a win next week over USC would definitely put the Beavers among the nation’s best 25 teams.

Oregon doesn’t move in the latest USA TODAY coaches poll

Oregon stayed at No. 24 in the latest USA TODAY coaches poll and thanks to a major upset, will now host No. 14 BYU next week.

Although there were several upsets from around the country, the Oregon Ducks football team stayed at No. 24 in the latest USA TODAY coaches poll that came out Sunday morning.

Some thought there might be a reshuffling of the top spots in the poll as Georgia, who dismantled Oregon in Week 1 and defeated Samford 33-0 last night, would move up to the top spot, but Alabama held on, just as it did at Texas. Ohio State remains at No. 3

USC jumped up four spots all the way to No. 8 after the Trojans defeated Stanford 41-28 in Palo Alto, Calif. The Trojans are already looking like the Pac-12 best chance of getting into the College Football Playoff, but there’s still a ton of season left to play.

Utah stayed at No. 15.

But the big jump occurred in Provo, Utah where BYU surged 11 spots in the poll to No. 14 after its double-overtime win over Baylor. The Cougars visit Autzen Stadium in what is suddenly a huge game for both teams.

Ducks suffer significant drop in USA TODAY Coaches poll

Oregon, along with Utah, took a big hit in the USA TODAY Coaches poll with the Ducks barely staying in at No. 24.

This was to be expected.

The Oregon Ducks football team dropped to No. 24 in the USA TODAY coaches poll after its 49-3 loss to Georgia in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game Saturday afternoon.

Georgia jumped Ohio State for that No. 2 spot after beating up Oregon. Alabama stayed at No. 1 with its win over Utah State and despite defeating No. 5 Notre Dame, Ohio State dropped a spot to No. 3. Notre Dame fell four spots to No. 9.

As a whole, the Pac-12 didn’t have the greatest of weeks where the coaches poll is concerned. USC is the only team that made a jump as the Trojans moved from 15 to No. 12.

Utah also was dinged with its loss to a previously unranked Florida team. The Utes dropped eight places to No. 15, while the Gators enter the poll for the first time this season at No. 19.

Oregon is back in the Top 10 of the USA TODAY/AFCA Coaches poll

Oregon is back into the Top 10 of the USA TODAY/AFCA Coaches poll.

With a couple of upsets and a 38-29 win over the Beavers, the Oregon Ducks climbed back into the Top 10 in the USA TODAY/AFCA Coaches poll by moving up one spot to No. 10 in the last poll of the regular season.

Rivalry weekend gave us a few upsets, but none were bigger than Ohio State falling to Michigan 42-29 and Oklahoma losing to Oklahoma State 37-33. Oregon was able to achieve a 10-win season with its win and the Ducks secured a spot in the Pac-12 title game and a rematch with No. 17 Utah.

UCLA was the only other Pac-12 team to receive votes.

The upsets will affect the College Football Playoff standings more than they did the coaches’ poll. Ohio State will drop out of the Top 4 and Michigan will slide in there.

No. 5 Oregon keeps climbing up the USA TODAY AFCA Coaches poll

For the first time since the Stanford loss, Oregon is back into the Top 5 in the USA TODAY AFCA Coaches poll.

It took a few weeks, but Oregon has managed to climb back into the Top 5 of the USA TODAY AFCA Coaches poll.

The Ducks have been as high as No. 3, but after that overtime loss at Stanford, they dropped to No. 12. Now on a five-game winning streak and teams above them falling off, Oregon now sits at No. 5 in the poll.

The latest team to fall by the wayside is Oklahoma as it suffered its first loss of the season. The Sooners’ 27-14 loss at Baylor made room for the 9-1 Ducks to jump up a spot.

Ohio State remains just ahead of the Ducks at No. 4, even though Oregon won in Columbus earlier this season. Notre Dame, also 9-1, lurks just behind Oregon at No. 6.

Other than the Ducks, the only other Pac-12 school to crack the poll is Utah at No. 25. Coincidently, Oregon travels to face the Pac-12 South leaders in the Utes.

Ducks continue to move up to No. 6 in the USA TODAY AFCA Coaches poll

Oregon moved up a spot in the USA TODAY AFCA Coaches poll to No. 6 with a 26-16 win over Washington.

Slowly but surely, the Oregon Ducks are moving their way up that USA TODAY AFCA Coaches poll.

Oregon jumped up one spot to No. 6 with its road win over Pac-12 North rival Washington. The Ducks were able to fight off the elements and the Huskies to come back home with a 26-16 win under their belt.

Michigan State was one spot above Oregon last week, but the Spartans’ loss at Purdue knocked them down to No. 9. Just ahead of the Ducks at No. 5, somehow, is Ohio State, despite Oregon going into Columbus earlier in the year and beating the Buckeyes.

But the Ducks are above tOSU in the College Football standings as Oregon was No. 4 and the Buckeyes were No. 5. The new standings come out on Tuesday.

As for the Pac-12 as a whole, no other team once again besides Oregon is able to crack the poll. Utah at 6-3 received votes, but that was the only other school from the Conference of Champions to be mentioned.
