Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs ranked 4th-best defensive free agent

Touchdown Wire ranks Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs as the fourth-best defensive free agent who could hit the open market in 2022.

The official start of free agency is now just weeks away and the Seattle Seahawks could be waving goodbye to a number of players if no new long-term deals are in the works.

Like many teams around the league, Seattle must decide who is essential to keep on the roster and which potential free agents from other clubs are worth pursuing on the open market.

Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire recently took a look at all the potential defensive free agents who could become available this spring and ranked his top 30. Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs landed all the way up at No. 4.

“One of the things you have to do when evaluating players is to take them out of the vacuum, and look at the help they had around them,” Farrar writes. “And that’s where Diggs, who the Seahawks absolutely stole from the Matt Patricia-era Lions for a fifth-round pick in October, 2019, comes in. Diggs has been the deep eraser Seattle hadn’t had since Earl Thomas’ salad days, grabbing five interceptions in each of the last two seasons for his new team.”

“In 2021, despite a cornerback group that was mostly drawn up in the dirt, and whatever it was that Jamal Adams was doing, Diggs allowed 21 catches on 30 targets for 251 yards, 61 yards after the catch, two touchdowns, those five picks, and an opponent passer rating of 77.9,” Farrar continues. “Diggs has all the deep range you’d want in a safety, and he breaks the ties with others at his position with a great combination of field speed and film study. Mathieu may be the more valuable player from several positions, but if you’re in need of a deep-third safety on the free-agent market, the line starts here.”

Former Seahawks Carlos Hyde and Phillip Dorsett to sign with Jaguars

Two former Seattle Seahawks – running back Carlos Hyde and wide receiver Phillip Dorsett – have agreed to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Seattle Seahawks are losing a couple of unrestricted free agents to the Jacksonville Jaguars – running back Carlos Hyde per ESPN’s Adam Schefter and wide receiver Phillip Dorset, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Both players have agreed to terms and plan to sign with the Jaguars.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting Hyde’s deal in Jacksonville is for two years and worth $6 million.

Hyde played one season in Seattle and finished his 2020 campaign logging 81 carries for 356 yards and four touchdowns.

As for Dorsett, he too only spent one season in Seattle, although he never took the field. Dorsett injured his right foot in training camp and was placed on the injured reserve, where sat out the year.

In Jacksonville, both Hyde and Dorsett will reunite with Seahawks former offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer.

Ranking Chargers’ 15 unrestricted free agents by importance

Chargers Wire’s Gavino Borquez ranks the Los Angeles Chargers’ 15 unrestricted free agents by importance.

The Los Angeles Chargers are in for one of their most intriguing offseasons yet. Slated to have 15 unrestricted free agents, they must decide who’s going to remain with the team when they move into their new stadium in 2020.

With that, we decided to do a ranking of what the Chargers’ top offseason priorities could look like, starting from the least enticing to the most polarizing options.

No. 15 — TE Lance Kendricks

Kendricks was brought in to serve as Virgil Green’s backup when Hunter Henry went down with a knee injury earlier this season. With Henry and Green back to their normal duties, it’s unlikely they bring back the veteran for another year.

No. 14 — C/G Ryan Groy

Groy, who was signed earlier this season to add depth to the offensive line, hasn’t been needed as Scott Quessenberry has served as the starting center. While the team will need offensive line help this offseason, they can likely look elsewhere to shore up the group.

No. 13 — LB Nick Dzubnar

Even though he hasn’t played much on the defensive side of the ball, Dzubnar has been kept by the Chargers because they covet his abilities on special teams. Rather than wasting a linebacker spot, they could look to find another option in next year’s draft to replace him.

No. 12 — WR Geremy Davis

Wide receiver depth will be an essential this offseason. But I can’t see Davis being in the team’s plans. Even though he has been a valuable blocker and special teamer, he hasn’t been productive in the passing game and an injury hampered him earlier this season.
