Jordan Spieth extends partnership with Under Armour through 2029

Under Armour will commit more $1 million over the next eight years to the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation.

Jordan Spieth recently took home his 13th PGA Tour victory at the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The win paid off in more ways than one.

Spieth currently has a 10-year deal with Under Armour and following his victory, their partnership has been extended for another four years through 2029. In addition to the extended contract, Under Armour has also committed to donating more than $1 million over the next eight years to the Spieth Family Foundation.

Spieth’s foundation focuses on special needs youth, junior golf, military support and pediatric cancer. His foundation has provided scholarships, grants and opened up golf programs that help break down socioeconomic barriers.

“Under Armour took a chance on me,” Spieth told company founder Kevin Plank in 2020. “I was just leaving school, and I guess in other sports I would have been considered a high draft pick but at the same time I didn’t have PGA Tour status, which in golf means everything.”

Dressed for Success: Jordan Speith at 2022 RBC Heritage

A closer look at Jordan Spieth’s apparel worn during his latest PGA Tour win

Under Armour needs to develop a few new pastel-colored golf polos in order to celebrate Jordan Spieth’s new holiday tradition.

Spieth defeated Patrick Cantlay on the first playoff hole at the 2022 RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, SC, earning his first win in just more than a year, and his second-consecutive Easter-Sunday victory. Don’t look now, but 2023 Easter Sunday will take place at Augusta National.

Spieth has been at the forefront of Under Armour’s golf brand since he signed a 10-year contract in 2015. Here’s what Director of UA Golf Apparel Patricia Lin said about Under Armour’s collaboration with Spieth:

“After almost a decade of working with Jordan, we have developed a trust, a relationship where we balance his preferences with new ideas on style, pattern, and color. For this season, you’ll see a focus on new neutrals accented by varsity and sport colors. Jordan’s scripting comes to life through color – blue and green mixed with his signature navy – and polos offering featuring a mix of bold blocking, athletic stripes, and whimsical prints.”

Let’s take a closer look into the champion’s closet and see exactly what outfit propelled Spieth to victory on Sunday at the RBC Heritage.

Our favorite golf gloves of 2022

Check out our list of top golf gloves in 2022.

Whether you’ve just picked up the game or you’re able to shoot lower than your age, a golf glove is one the most essential and affordable pieces of equipment most golfers utilize.

Golf gloves allow you to better control the club, but to get the full benefit of a glove, you need one that fits properly. Before we get into the following list of gloves to try, here are a few tips and tricks to know you’re getting the right one.

First, a good golf glove should be tight. When your hand is spread naturally, the velcro tab should reach to the halfway point of the velcro on the other side across the back of your hand. With time, you’ll break in the glove and the velcro will reach all the way across. If the glove rides too far up your wrist, try a cadet size made for hands with shorter fingers and wider palms.

If you play a lot, especially in the summer, buy in bulk to keep your gloves fresh. Pro tip: Hang a glove on your cart or bag to air out between shots. And if you want a glove to last longer, never leave it in the hot and humid trunk of your car between rounds.

The list below has options for every budget and handicap, and even includes where to buy.

Cold-weather apparel and accessories to lengthen your golf season

Want to extend your golf season a little longer? Here are a few new things to consider if you live where it’s cold.

With autumn leaves falling fast in New England and bomb cyclones pummeling the Pacific Coast with wind and rain, staying warm and dry on the course is getting tricky for golfers in many parts of the country.

Cold weather does a few things that can diminish your performance on the course. First, according to Titleist, a shot hit on a 50-degree day will fly three percent less far than it will at 70 degrees because colder air is thicker. So, your 200-yard shot will only fly 194. The bigger factor, however, is that adding sweaters, jackets and other insulating layers designed to keep you warm usually restricts your range of motion, so you swing slower. That will take even more yards off your shots.

Smart golfers are always on the lookout for apparel and accessories that can keep you warm and dry without hindering your swing. Here are a few new things to consider if you live where it’s cold and want to extend your season a little longer.

Cincinnati reveals uniforms for Notre Dame showdown

Fan of these?

For just the third time during Brian Kelly’s 12 seasons at Notre Dame the Fighting Irish will host a game between two teams ranked in the top-10 this Saturday as Cincinnati makes the trip to South Bend.  It’s arguably the biggest game in the history of the Bearcats program and could be a huge step towards crashing the College Football Playoff (CFP) party.

Cincinnati is another Under Armour program and on Thursday took to social media to show off the uniforms they’ll wear as they head to Notre Dame Stadium this weekend.

I don’t really understand the whole lightsaber thing during the presentation as it’s not like wearing white uniforms for a road game is unique.  I don’t love that the helmet, jersey, and pants are three different base colors as I’m usually more for finding two base colors and sticking with them.

This now concludes the fashion police portion of Fighting Irish Wire for this week.  Enjoy the game.

Jordan Spieth’s BMW pro-am round goes swimmingly with Olympics legend Michael Phelps

Jordan Spieth said his team “hammed and egged” it but there were plenty of good shots, plenty of good laughs.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The thermometer reached 95 on Wednesday, the long walk on mountainous Caves Valley Golf Club was on the arduous side, and the pro-am round ahead of the BMW Championship lasted more than five hours.

And Jordan Spieth had a blast.

“A lot of times when you have an 18-hole pro-am, you don’t know who you’re going to play with, and you’re somewhat kind of, not regretting the day, but more just kind of, OK, we’ve got to go out there and play 18, it’s going to be a long day, how do we save energy, that kind of stuff,” Spieth said. “But with this situation I was very excited.”

It helped to be grouped with Michael Phelps.

The most decorated Olympian of all time, the swimmer winning 23 gold medals among the 28 he collected in all, enjoyed the day, as well. The Baltimore native, who calls himself a “tremendous nerd of the golf game,” said it is “kind of sad, but I obsess about this game.”

So who better to have a round with than Spieth, right?

Spieth and Phelps have been associated with Under Armour for years. Also in the group with Spieth and Phelps was Kevin Plank, founder of Under Armour, whose headquarters are in Baltimore.

Spieth said his team “hammed and egged” it and had to yell “Fore,” more than a few times. But there were plenty of good shots, plenty of good laughs.

“When the pressure was most on, to no surprise Michael stepped up and hit his best shot of the day,” Spieth said. “Some of the shots he hit were not his best and then he’ll step up in that situation and put it to like eight feet and then knocked it right in the hole.”

Spieth and Phelps have done many photo shoots together through their years with Under Armour and built up a strong relationship. Phelps has been open about his mental health challenges, including depression, substance abuse and suicidal thoughts. He has now determined to help others from all walks of life deal with similar issues.

“I pick his brain on the mental side of things now,” Spieth said. “He’s getting very involved in mental health, and it’s been something that I’ve actually worked on a lot in the last few years, and that’s been a space that probably should be talked about more within athletes, their experiences across different sports, too.

“I’ve been really fortunate that he’s lent an ear and bounced ideas off me. Without getting into details that are competitive advantages, I think he’s been a fantastic kind of friend, and we’ve been able to spend time down in Mexico separate from the brand, too, and get to know his family. To have a golf lover be the most decorated Olympian of all time, it’s really good for our sport, and it’s even better that I’m able to access it, as well.”

As for his current form, Spieth, thee three-time major winner who has emerged from a nearly three-year drought with nine top-10s in 17 starts so far this year, including his first win since the 2017 British Open coming in the Valero Texas Open, finished 73rd in the Northern Trust that ended Monday.

The 2015 winner of the FedEx Cup is seventh right now in the playoffs race heading into the BMW Championship. He’s ranked 12th in the world and eighth in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings. The top 6 at the end of the BMW automatically make the team and captain Steve Stricker will make six discretionary picks following next week’s Tour Championship.

“I feel good,” said Spieth, who has done some photo shoots at Caves Valley but said he doesn’t have much course knowledge. “This will be nice playing consecutive tournaments. I haven’t done that since Colonial to Memorial, so it’s been a long time. I always feel that I play better as kind of a stretch goes on, knock some rust off, figure it out just hitting more shots, less kind of practice shots at home and more shots on course.”

New golf equipment for 2021: Footwear

See all the latest golf shoes from Adidas, Ecco, FootJoy, G/Fore, Puma, Under Armour and more.

This story first appeared in the February issue of Golfweek Magazine.

White shoes with a black saddle. White shoes with a brown saddle. All white. All black. It seemed golf shoes were trapped in an endless cycle of conformity for decades.

Thankfully, those days are over. While there are plenty of golfers who still love to play in classic-looking footwear, the trend is toward athletic-looking golf shoes with bold colors and sporty styles. From posh private clubs to municipal tracks, more and more golfers are wearing shoes that resemble something that might be seen at a 10K race.

That does not mean these shoes are short on golf-specific details. Manufacturers study how golfers put stress on their feet during the swing, looking at various traction elements and how cleats dig into the grass. They are always tinkering with new materials that provide pillow-like cushioning without increasing weight.

But regardless of the style of shoe you prefer, getting footwear that fits properly is key. Walking a course can easily involve strolling four or five miles up and down hills, and even if you ride in a cart, you will walk a lot during your round.

Shoes that are too tight are never comfortable, and footwear that is too big can rob you of traction and potentially lead to blisters. Your shoes should flex under the balls of your feet to ensure both comfort and traction when you walk, yet they need to be rigid enough to keep you locked to the turf so you can maintain your balance off the tee.

Here are several new options that are sure to be popular this spring.

Special Delivery: EXCLUSIVE interview with photographer Devin Allen on his NEW Under Armour line

Devin Allen did it big for Black History Month.

Devin Allen is a man of many titles and many talents. He’s an activist, a photographer and an artist.

You’ve seen his work on the cover of TIME Magazine, where he shot some of the most raw moments from the Freddie Gray protests of 2015 in Baltimore. He also shot protests after George Floyd was killed by police officers in 2020.

Now, you also know him as a sneaker designer.

Allen teamed up with Under Armour to create their new collection for Black History Month. Allen designed his own colorways on four different distinct silhouettes with the brand — the Curry 8, the HOVR Phantom 3, the Forge and the Spawn 3.

They were each inspired by his upbringing in West Baltimore and all of the work he’s done to uplift the community around him. He joined the SPECIAL DELIVERY crew to talk about those inspirations, his designs and what it means to him to have his own sneaker.

Here is that conversation.
