Georgia’s Jake Fromm, Dan Lanning nominated for prestigious awards

Georgia’s Jake Fromm and Dan Lanning are among nominees for prestigious awards: the Jason Witten Award and the Broyles Award respectively.

Georgia Bulldog QB Jake Fromm is among the players nominated for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award. UCF’s Shaquem Griffin won the inaugural award. Fromm has been an excellent leader this season for the forth-ranked Bulldogs.

Even with his leadership, Georgia is more than Jake Fromm. Georgia’s defense has been spectacular this season. A big part of that is because UGA defensive coordinator Dan Lanning has been on top of his game. Lanning has put the Dawgs in position to have three shutouts on the season. He’s nominated for the Broyles Award, which is give to the best assistant coach in the nation.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart won the award with the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2009. Brian VanGorder, the current defensive coordinator for Bowling Green, won the award at UGA in 2003. Georgia legend Vince Dooley is on the award’s selection committee. Here’s the SEC’s Broyles Award Nominees:

LSU’s Joe Brady is the most likely candidate from the SEC to win the award. But if Lanning’s defense continues it’s elite play and shuts down LSU’s offense, then he’d have quite a case.

The Georgia Bulldogs landed fourth in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. UGA checks in as the first one-loss team thanks to their big wins over Notre Dame and Florida. Behind the Bulldogs are in the order: Alabama, Oregon, Utah, Minnesota, Penn State, and Oklahoma.

This week the Dawgs take on twelfth ranked Auburn in what should be a defensive battle. Barring a collapse, Georgia is heading to the SEC Championship Game to play Joe Burrow and the LSU Tigers.

Following the release of the CFP Rankings, their were quite a few takes on who should be ranked where. Here’s some of the best ones:

The College Football Playoff rankings were revealed on Tuesday night and Georgia checked in at No. 4

The full top-ten looks like:

1. LSU

5. Alabama

6. Oregon

This Saturday when Georgia takes on Auburn, it will be No. 4 vs No. 12 on the Plains.

To date, Georgia has two signature wins over Florida and Notre Dame and will look to add a third this weekend, which would also clinch the SEC East for the third consecutive season for the Dawgs.

Florida ranked No. 11 while Notre Dame is sitting at No. 16

With Alabama losing to LSU, the big question was whether or not the committee valued Bama’s combo of no signature wins and a forgivable loss over Georgia’s big wins and a bad loss.

That question was answered tonight.

The Bulldogs are favored to win the game, but it will by no means be an easy task.

With the game being featured on the SEC on CBS, the whole country will be watching as Georgia fights to keep its season alive.

ESPN FPI projects Georgia football’s final three games

The ESPN FPI predicts Georgia football’s final three games of the season, including this weekend’s UGA vs Auburn game.

ESPN’s FPI has Georgia favored in two of its next next three matchups.

Where the program sees Georgia losing is this weekend to Auburn, where it gives the Bulldogs a 47.4% chance of beating the Tigers on the road.

Coming off a 27-0 win over Missouri, Georgia’s chances of beating Auburn actually increased 2% from last week’s 45%, according to the FPI.

After this weekend, UGA’s final two games of the season, as predicted by the FPI, include a home game vs Texas A&M (Georgia has a 84.1% chance of winning) and on the road at Georgia Tech (Georgia has a 97.1% chance in that game).

In terms of strength of record, the FPI ranks Georgia No. 11, with two signature wins and an 8-1 record.

Additionally, the FPI gives Georgia a 17.7% chance of winning out, which is what it will need to if it wants to make the College Football Playoff.

Georgia football’s defensive stats are absolutely nuts

These Georgia football defensive stats are literally nuts.

This Georgia defense is the best in the conference and it’s one of the NCAA’s elite defenses. In nine games this year, the defense has allowed a high of 17 points.

Here’s each game so far:

6, 17, 0, 17, 14, 13, 0, 17, 0.

Remember, in the South Carolina game Georgia’s defense actually only allowed 13 points. The Gamecocks got seven when they returned an interception back for a touchdown.

That’s three shutouts, and two of those came against SEC teams Kentucky and Missouri.

This defense is something special.

Saturday proved that again as Georgia held Missouri to 0 points, 198 total yards, 148 passing and 50 rushing.

In the fourth quarter, Georgia almost saw its nine game streak of no rushing touchdowns allowed come to a close. But the defense prevailed and not only did not allow a rushing score, but no score at all for that matter.

The passing defense could be cleaned up a little bit, but the Dawgs are still fine in that category, ranking 17th nationally.

A big part of Georgia’s solid passing defense can be credited to the run defense. Georgia takes away its opponents run game. It’s a sure thing. Basically, if you think you want to run the ball against Georgia, think again.

With the Dawgs being so stout against the run, teams are forced to throw it. And just because the Georgia pass defense is not as elite as its run defense, don’t take that secondary lightly. There are some big name players back there just waiting for you to throw it at them.

Compared to the rest of the SEC, there’s no questioning that Georgia has the conference’s best defense.

Just look at these stats and where they rank among the SEC and the nation.

Webb is UGA’s first commitment in either the class of 2022 or 2023. Kirby Smart and company only have three commits in the class of 2021. Webb has a long way to go throughout the process and several years to develop before he’d come to Athens.

Webb is only 180 pounds and is six feet tall. He may grow some more before he plays in college. It’s another win for Georgia recruiting.

SEC announces kickoff time for Georgia football game vs Texas A&M

The SEC announced the kickoff time, TV station for the Georgia football game vs Texas A&M.

On Monday morning, the SEC Twitter account posted kickoff times and television stations for the games on Saturday, November 23rd.

Georgia’s home game that day vs Texas A&M will kickoff at 3:30 and air on CBS, making it the fourth time this season that the Bulldogs will be featured on the SEC on CBS.

Most recently, Georgia vs Florida was in that slot, and this weekend against Auburn the Dawgs will occupy the same spot.

CBS used its lone primetime slot earlier in the season on Georgia when it hosted Notre Dame.

If Georgia beats Auburn this weekend, the Texas A&M game will be a huge one for the Dawgs, with only one regular season matchup to go before playing LSU in the SEC Championship.

The Aggies host South Carolina this weekend and are currently sitting at 6-3, which includes a three game winning streak.
