Georgia football has the nation’s top junior class so far. The Bulldogs have picked up 11 commitments. Yet, defensive line coach Tray Scott and the Dawgs are still without a commitment from a defensive lineman. That will change in the coming months.

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have dipped into North Carolina a few times to secure defensive line talent. The Dawgs added 2023 four-star defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett and, of course, Georgia legend Jordan Davis.

Report: Georgia OT Broderick Jones sets several predraft visits

Former UGA left tackle Broderick Jones has predraft visits with several NFL teams picking in the first half of the first round

Former Georgia Bulldogs left tackle Broderick Jones has predraft visits scheduled with the Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, and New York Jets. Additionally, it is anticipated that Jones will visit with the Arizona Cardinals and the Chicago Bears ahead of the draft, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Where will Broderick Jones go in the 2023 NFL draft? Jones is expected to be a first round pick. The Titans have the No. 11 selection and the Patriots have the No. 14 selection in the draft. Arizona has the No. 3 pick of the draft, but could take Jones later if it trades back. Chicago has the No. 9 pick in the draft after trading back with the Carolina Panthers.

The Jets are currently projected to take Broderick Jones with the No. 13 pick of the draft, per Draft Wire. Based on Jones’ slate of predraft visits and several different mock drafts, he’s expected to go in the first 16 picks of the draft.

Broderick Jones is a former five-star recruit and a back-to-back national champion. Jones has always shown incredible mobility at his size. The talent offensive tackle put together an outstanding performance at the 2023 NFL combine in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Jones put together a great performance, off the bench, against Alabama’s Will Anderson in the 2021 national championship game. Jones has the mobility to match the quickness of edge rushers and the power to push them back in the run game.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound offensive tackle recorded a 4.97 second 40-yard dash at the combine, which was the fastest time of any offensive lineman.

Broderick Jones seldom allowed pressure on quarterback Stetson Bennett throughout the 2022 college football season. Could he be the first offensive lineman drafted? Jones has the tape to match his impressive physical ability.

Broderick Jones’ tape shows his speed and ability to overwhelm poor defenders at the second level:

Kirby Smart details what he values the most from quarterbacks

Kirby Smart provided some insight on the quarterback position battle between Carson Beck, Gunner Stockton, and Brock Vandagriff.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is a defensive coach at heart. He hates when his defense gets put in a bad position and knows that when you win the turnover battle you are much more likely to win the game.

Smart wants his quarterbacks to put the offense in good situations with sound decisions. Quarterbacks have to make more decisions than any other player on the field.

I can get the stats, but a true quarterback is a decision-maker. In our system, because some systems take all the pressure of the quarterback and they just go really fast, we don’t do that. We’re a quarterback driven offense. So, can you process the information?

Georgia’s previous starting quarterback, Stetson Bennett, threw only seven interceptions in each of his last two seasons. Bennett’s decision-making, durability, and mobility were big reasons why he prevailed over JT Daniels in Georgia’s last quarterback position battle.

Quarterback Carson Beck may have a leg up, in terms of decision-making, on Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton thanks to his experience. However, Beck is not as mobile as Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton.

Carson Beck has attempted only 58 career passing attempts in 10 games, so he does not have a ton of game experience, but that is the most of Georgia’s trio of quarterbacks. Vandagriff has only three career pass attempts and Gunner Stockton, who has been mostly practicing with the third-team offense, has not attempted a pass in college.

Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck is considered the favorite to win the starting role, but he has stiff competition. Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

It sounds like avoiding mistakes is something Kirby Smart really values. He makes it clear that sometimes an incomplete pass, or even a sack, is not a bad play compared to an interception.

Which of these three choices Coach Bobo’s given me am I going to utilize on this play? And then the play happens, and there might be a mistake or a breakdown, and you do not go full metal jacket and have catastrophe mode and put us in a bad situation.

Ultimately, Kirby Smart is looking at good decision-making as the most important thing he hopes to find at the quarterback position this spring. The best decision-maker will probably win the starting job for the Bulldogs.

Decision-making is the number one thing I want to see at the quarterback position.

For now, Brock Vandagriff and Carson Beck have an edge over Gunner Stockton as they are getting more reps with the starters. Perhaps it is because they are making more consistent decisions.

Brock and Carson are both getting reps with the ones.

Overall, Kirby Smart made it clear that scrimmages don’t tell the full story. Quarterbacks react differently when they get hit in live action. Some quarterbacks are able to dodge sacks that are automatic in scrimmages.

Georgia fans will get a chance to watch the Bulldogs on G-Day, which is scheduled for April 15.

Pickens is a second-year wide receiver for the Pittsburg Steelers and Moore, a third-year long-snapper for the Baltimore Ravens.

A new NFL class of Bulldogs will make the transition in the 2023 NFL draft, which is scheduled to kickoff in Kansas City on April 27.
