4 defensive keys for Vikings vs. Bears

For the Vikings to slow down Justin Fields and the Bears, they will have to follow these four defensive keys to victory.

The Minnesota Vikings have a chance to better their playoff chances before a much-needed bye week on Monday night against the Chicago Bears (7:20 p.m. CST, ESPN)

After dropping the Sunday night game against the Denver Broncos, Minnesota is still slated at sixth in the playoff race, but a win would give them an 82% chance to make the postseason.

Which, after a deflating 0-3 start, would be yet another testament to the resiliency of this team. To do that, they need to stop this Chicago offense that hasn’t been full-strength since their last meeting.

Justin Fields accounted for 273 yards of total offense in last week’s eventual collapse against the Detroit Lions. This was his first action back since leaving the first meeting against the Vikings with a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand.

The addition of Fields was felt immediately as the Bears were a Tyler Scott completion from salting away a huge upset win against Detroit. This offense cannot be overlooked, despite how well the Minnesota defense has looked recently.

If they want to stop this offense, they must follow these four keys to success on the defensive side.

4 bold predictions for Bears vs. Vikings

A big day for D’Onta Foreman and Tyler Scott’s first NFL touchdown are among our bold predictions for Bears vs. Vikings.

It’s been over a week since the Chicago Bears (1-4) were last on the football field, but the wait is finally over this Sunday when they welcome the Minnesota Vikings (1-4). It’s a division game that will give one team their second victory of the season, while the other will remain at the bottom of the NFL standings.

The Bears might be on the verge of breaking out, so to speak, though. They’re coming off their first win of the season after defeating the Washington Commanders 40-20 thanks to a suddenly potent offense led by quarterback Justin Fields.

The Vikings, meanwhile, have played their opponents close this season but have just one win to show for it. Last week, they fell in a close one to the Kansas City Chiefs, losing 27-20. They lost much more than the game, though, as Justin Jefferson was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury after getting hurt in the game. Quarterback Kirk Cousins will be without his top target for at least the next four games.

With conditions likely to be wet and rainy at Soldier Field on Sunday, this could be a sloppy game all the way around. But big moments will always happen in an NFL game, no matter what. Here are our bold predictions for Bears vs. Vikings.

WATCH: Bears WRs prank Tyler Scott with expensive dinner bill

The Bears rookie was speechless when he saw the tab.

The Chicago Bears wide receivers enjoyed a nice dinner together before their second preseason game of the season against the Indianapolis Colts on Friday night. But judging by the look on Tyler Scott’s face, the rookie may have wanted to show off his speed by getting out of that restaurant in a hurry after seeing the “bill.”

The position group decided to play a prank on Scott while out to dinner, saying he needed to pick up the tab as part of his rookie duties. The only problem was the total that was given to him was for $20,501.81. Wide receiver Daurice Fountain captured the moment on his Instagram, where Scott was dumbfounded when he saw the total before realizing it was a joke.

The bill was passed around the room before making its way to Scott and Fountain laughed hysterically as the rookie tried to make sense of it. Fortunately, Scott didn’t have to pay and Fountain made sure to note the bill was not $20,000.

Though the fun came at Scott’s expense, it’s good to see the receivers bonding together during the preseason. Scott’s status for the game is up in the air after he sat out of Thursday’s practice. The Bears and Colts kick off later this evening at 6 pm CT.

Gimme Him: One player Colts would steal from Bears

If the Colts could hypothetically steal one player from the Bears, who would it be?

The Indianapolis Colts play the Chicago Bears today at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 2 of the preseason on Saturday.

In a hypothetical scenario, the Colts Wire staff can “steal” one player that sheds light on depth needs or talent upgrades for the Colts.

This week’s selection: wide receiver Tyler Scott.

Before the 2023 draft, general manager Chris Ballard had his eyes on Scott. The team spoke with the wide receiver to gauge scheme fit and to dive deeper into Scott’s abilities.

At 5-foot-10 and 177 pounds, Scott is smaller than Ballard’s usual prototype, but his athleticism helps him tremendously. He has 4.44 speed with a 39.5-inch vertical and an 11-foot broad jump.

Additionally, Scott has something Ballard loves: special teams experience. He has a connection to current special teams coordinator Brian Mason who coached Scott during his time at the University of Cincinnati.

Finally, with wide receiver Ashton Dulin out for the season, it’s reasonable to assume that Scott could add critical depth and help the team stay competitive.

Other players in consideration would be D.J. Moore, Jaquan Brisker and Teven Jenkins.

What are your thoughts, Colts fans? Would you pick Scott or steal an entirely different player from the Chicago Bears?

Bears rookie report card from preseason win vs. Titans

How did the Bears 2023 rookie class look during Saturday’s game? Here’s our report card.

When the Chicago Bears took the field against the Tennessee Titans for their first preseason game, it was the first chance many fans were able to see the team’s 2023 rookie class in action. After nearly four months since general manager Ryan Poles made his 10 selections, the rookies took their first test to show their progress at the professional level.

Though veteran stars Justin Fields and D.J. Moore stole the show early on in the Bears’ 23-17 win, it was the rookies who had the majority of the playing time as the game progressed. Some of them shined in their debuts, while others could have gotten off to better starts. Here is our report card of the team’s rookie class after their preseason debut.

10 Bears players to watch in the preseason opener vs. Titans

The Bears are set to take on the Titans this Saturday in the preseason opener. Here are 10 players to keep an eye on.

The preseason opener is finally here, marking another important milestone as we inch closer to the start of the regular season. The Chicago Bears are set to welcome the Tennessee Titans to town for the first look at the 2023 squad.

Though the starters on both sides of the ball likely won’t see more than a couple drives, the preseason will give everyone a chance to view veterans and rookies alike who are vying for a spot on the team. After all, it was this time last year that fans first got a glimpse at safety Jaquan Brisker and Jack Sanborn when they shined against the Kansas City Chiefs on the lakefront.

Who will stand out and make a name for themselves this Saturday? Here are 10 players to keep an eye on when the game kicks off.

Bears notebook: What we learned from Day 11 of training camp

Our Brendan Sugrue took in Bears training camp practice on Tuesday. Here is what he observed at Halas Hall.

It’s officially game week for the Chicago Bears! The team is gearing up for their first preseason contest of the year on Saturday and returned to the practice field at Halas Hall following an off day.

The Bears ditched the pads for this practice, only running drills in shells, but it was still a competitive session that provided valuable information leading into the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. It was also the debut for new edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue, who sported his No. 91 jersey.

I was able to take in practice on Tuesday and here is what I observed during the nearly two hour practice.

Bears stock watch: Who’s up, who’s down after two weeks of training camp

Training camp performances ebb and flow but here are a few Bears players whose stock is rising as well falling after two weeks.

It’s been an eventful training camp for the Chicago Bears since the players returned to Halas Hall nearly two weeks ago. But things have kicked up a notch over the last few days. Whether it’s been the increased physicality with pads coming on, players jawing with each other following a big play, or even a scuffle or two that’s broken out, something exciting has occurred during every practice.

That includes the performances of the individual players and their progress throughout camp, good and bad. Some have built on their strong starts while others may have dropped off a bit. Here are a few players whose stock has risen in recent days and some who have seen theirs dip.

6 Bears who stood out on Day 8 of training camp

With the eighth practice of Bears training camp in the books, here are the players who impressed on Friday.

The Chicago Bears kicked off their second week of training camp with a non-padded practice on Friday, and the team is slated to play its first preseason game in just under a week.

While the addition of defensive end Yannick Ngakoue was the big news out of Halas Hall today, there were several of his new teammates who made a strong impression during Friday’s slower, non-padded practice.

Let’s take a look at the six players who stood out during the eighth practice of training camp.

Bears training camp: Tracking rookie progress after first week

We’re taking a closer look at the 2023 Bears rookie draft class to see how they’ve performed in training camp up to this point.

Training camp is in full swing for the Chicago Bears, who have now completed seven days of practice since reporting to Halas Hall last week. Early on, the offense stole the show with big plays in the passing game, but the defense caught up once pads came on the last couple of days.

Players like Justin Fields, D.J. Moore, Chase Claypool, Tremaine Edmunds, Jaquan Brisker, and Kyler Gordon have stolen the headlines at one time or another after each practice, but what about the Bears rookie class? General manager Ryan Poles selected 10 players in total earlier this spring, most notably tackle Darnell Wright with the No. 10 overall pick.

Wright has been a starter at right tackle from Day 1 and he’s been one of the more intriguing players as camp has gotten underway. There’s more to the rookies than just the first-round pick, though. Here’s an overview of each Bears rookie performance up to this point in camp.
