5 Bears players who impressed on Day 13 of training camp

Here a few Bears players who stood out during the team’s final public practice of training camp.

Believe it or not, Chicago Bears training camp 2023 is already coming to a close. The Bears held their final public training camp practice of the season on Thursday, two days before they take on the Tennessee Titans in the preseason opener. After that, one more closed practice will take place on Monday before the team heads to Indianapolis for their joint practices with the Colts.

Following a lengthy and spirited practice the day before, head coach Matt Eberflus dialed things back a little bit on Thursday with a shorter session. But it was still one that featured plenty of plays from the defense, particularly on the line.

Here are a few players who stood out from the Bears’ final open training camp practice.

Bears notebook: What we learned from Day 12 of training camp

The Bears had a long and physical practice on Wednesday. Our Brendan Sugrue was in attendance and shared his observations from Halas Hall.

The Chicago Bears preseason opener will be here before we know it and Wednesday’s practice served as a true tune-up for the game. The pads were back on and the Bears held their second-to-last public camp practice up at Halas Hall and it was a long one.

For just over two hours and 15 minutes, the Bears engaged in a physical practice packed with plenty of 11-on-11 drills. There was some good, some bad, and some concerning as the Bears lost a couple of key players to injuries.

For the second consecutive day, I was able to take in practice from the stands and here is what I observed and learned throughout the session.

Our Brendan Sugrue took in Bears training camp practice on Tuesday. Here is what he observed at Halas Hall.

It’s officially game week for the Chicago Bears! The team is gearing up for their first preseason contest of the year on Saturday and returned to the practice field at Halas Hall following an off day.

The Bears ditched the pads for this practice, only running drills in shells, but it was still a competitive session that provided valuable information leading into the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. It was also the debut for new edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue, who sported his No. 91 jersey.

I was able to take in practice on Tuesday and here is what I observed during the nearly two hour practice.

Winners and losers following first week of Bears training camp

After seven days of Bears training camp practices, here are our winners and losers up to this point.

Seven training camp practices have come and gone for the Chicago Bears up at Halas Hall and things are starting to fall in place at certain positions. There’s been some good, some bad, and even a little ugly at certain points depending on your perspective. But it’s all with a goal to grow as a team and prepare for the 2023 regular season that lies ahead.

Over the course of those seven practices, specific players have risen to the top and shined at crucial moments. Others, however, haven’t had the camp many envisioned they would up to this point.

It’s still early, but it’s clear some are in better spots than others. Here are the winners and losers of the first week of Bears training camp

Bears G Teven Jenkins leaves Wednesday’s practice with possible injury

Teven Jenkins was spotted leaving Wednesday’s practice with a Bears trainer.

The Chicago Bears were unable to escape Wednesday’s training camp practice unscathed. A little over halfway through practice, offensive guard Teven Jenkins was seen leaving the field to go to the locker room with head trainer Andre Tucker. Alex Leatherwood took his spot on the starting offensive line.

Not much is known yet about any potential injury but the good news is Jenkins was able to walk off the field. The Bears are already missing right guard Nate Davis for the second practice in a row and now could be without their left guard in Jenkins.

The third-year offensive lineman has dealt with a variety of ailments since he was picked in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Jenkins missed much of his rookie year with a back injury and last year, battled a number of issues while missing a handful of games.

Hopefully whatever he’s dealing with now doesn’t linger and he can return to the field sooner rather than later. Other players who did not practice include defensive end DeMarcus Walker, defensive tackle Justin Jones, tight end Chase Allen, and linebacker Jack Sanborn. Running back Roschon Johnson and wide receiver Dante Pettis were present, but did not participate.

Bears Wire will provide more information as it becomes available.

WATCH: Bears rookies Tyler Scott and Terell Smith battle in camp drills

The Bears rookies had an intense battle during 1-on-1 drills that was captured on video.

You know the old saying “iron sharpens iron” right? In the case of the Chicago Bears, that could not have been more accurate between a pair of rookies during Monday’s training camp practice up at Halas Hall.

During Monday’s practice as players began going through 1-on-1 drills, rookies Tyler Scott and Terell Smith had an intense battle that was caught on video by Clay Harbor.

Scott, the receiver was jammed immediately off the snap by the cornerback Smith and had to fight to regain his route. Smith was draped all over Scott until the receiver planted his foot on an inside move to lose him before whipping back to the outside to make the catch. Scott eventually got the better of Smith but it took a while for that to happen.

The two rookies have been pleasant surprises to start camp. Scott, a fourth-round pick out of Cincinnati, has displayed impressive bursts of speed and quickness both at receiver and on special teams. He’s blown past defenders on deep routes and has the ability to shake them in space. On the other side, Smith was drafted in the fifth round out of Minnesota and is a lengthy cornerback. He’s already turning heads in camp and has seen plenty of reps with the starting defense. Plays like the one with Scott are a reason why.

Time will tell whether or not Scott and/or Smith continue their rise and become meaningful contributors when the regular season gets underway. But both players showed why the Bears are so high on them this early in camp.

Bears 2023 training camp: Team to practice in pads on Tuesday

The Bears are putting on the pads for Tuesday’s training camp practice and Cody Whitehair can’t wait.

After five days of practicing in t-shirts and shorts, the Chicago Bears are set to finally put on the pads and ramp up training camp. At least that’s according to center Cody Whitehair.

Following Monday’s training camp practice at Halas Hall, Whitehair met the Bears media and revealed head coach Matt Eberflus plans to have the team practice in pads beginning on Tuesday, August 1st.

The news came as a bit of a surprise as Eberflus previously told the media that pads would not come on until Wednesday, August 2nd during his first press conference of camp. But apparently the coaching staff is ready to dial things up and get a better look at positions such as offensive and defensive line, running back, and linebacker.

On offensive line, Whitehair personally can’t wait for the opportunity. “That physicality level will pick up [Tuesday],” Whitehair said via 670 The Score’s Chris Emma. “As big guys, we always look forward to that.”

Even though Whitehair is the longest-tenured player on the team, he’s still looking forward to seeing things ramp up as the Bears inch closer to the regular season. Tuesday’s practice should be an exciting one to follow.
