East Carolina at Tulsa odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s East Carolina at Tulsa odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The East Carolina Pirates (5-4, 3-2 AAC) and Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-6, 1-4) meet Thursday. Kickoff from Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the East Carolina vs. Tulsa odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Pirates have really turned things around since dismissing coach Mike Houston after the loss to Army Oct. 19. Defensive coordinator Blake Harrell took over as interim coach, but the offense has really improved under his leadership. The Pirates have scored 49 or more points in each of the past 2 games, home wins against FAU and Temple.

East Carolina has covered 3 in a row, and 4 of the past 5 games, while the Over is on a 4-0 run. The Pirates have allowed 34 or more points in 3 of the past 4 outings, too.

For Tulsa, it needs to win out to attain bowl eligibility. The Golden Hurricane have allowed 45 or more points in 4 of the past 5 games, while going just 1-4 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS). The Over is 4-1 in the span.

East Carolina at Tulsa picks and predictions

Prediction

East Carolina 45, Tulsa 34

Moneyline

East Carolina (-600) will set you back 6 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not enough reward. The Pirates have lost 3 straight games on the road, allowing 45.0 points per game in those setbacks. But, even if they had won each of those games, there is never a reason to back such a heavy favorite straight up.

AVOID.

Against the spread

Back TULSA +14.5 (-110) catching the points, as East Carolina -14.5 (-110) has been sensational on offense but the defense is the team’s Achilles heel.

While ECU is 3-0 ATS in the past 3 games, and 4-1 ATS in 5 tries as a favorite, the Pirates are also winless in the past 3 games on the road.

Tulsa has allowed 45 or more points in its 3 games against FBS opponents at home, though, so there is plenty of risk. Be careful, and back the Golden Cane lightly.

Over/Under

OVER 62.5 (-105) is a big number, but it is the best play on the board. This total has been on the move, too. It opened at 60.5 (-110) at BetMGM Sunday, and the money is flooding in on the Over. Yours truly put a wager in on Sunday when I saw the number so low.

The Over is on a 4-0 run for ECU, while going 5-1 in the past 6 games. The Pirates have conceded 24 or more points in 4 of the past 6 contests.

The total has cashed in 4 of the past 5 for Tulsa, while allowing 45 or more points 4 times in the span.

Army at Tulsa odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Army at Tulsa odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Army Black Knights (4-0, 3-0 American) and Tulsa Golden Hurricane (2-3, 0-1) meet at H.A. Chapman Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (ESPNU). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Army vs. Tulsa odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Army improved to 4-0 with a commanding 42-14 victory over Temple Sept. 26. The Black Knights dominated the 2nd half, putting up 28 points. QB Bryson Daily was unstoppable on the ground, rushing 24 times for 152 yards and 3 TDs. RB Kanye Udoh also contributed with 128 rushing yards and a score.

Tulsa suffered a 52-20 defeat against North Texas Sept. 28. The Golden Hurricane defense faltered, allowing 24 points in the 2nd quarter alone. QB Kirk Francis threw for 101 yards, but was picked off twice, while RB Bill Jackson led the rushing effort with 77 yards on 16 carries.

Army at Tulsa picks and predictions

Prediction

Army 30, Tulsa 17

Moneyline

PASS.

Army (-450) will win Saturday and cover as the double-digit favorite. Because of that, I’ll take my wager to the spread.

Against the spread

BET ARMY -12.5 (-110).

I’m backing Army at -12.5 (-110) here. Its run-heavy offense has been unstoppable, piling up 489 total yards against Temple, including 417 on the ground. The defense also stepped up, holding Temple to just 219 yards and allowing only 12 first downs.

Tulsa, meanwhile, had major issues last week, giving up 618 total yards and 10.3 yards per play to North Texas. Although it managed 229 rushing yards, its defensive lapses make it tough to trust against a well-disciplined Army squad. I think the Black Knights will control the game and cover the spread.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 50.5 (-105).

I’m backing the Under 50.5 for Army vs. Tulsa. Army’s last 5 October road games against non-ranked teams have all hit the Under, and Tulsa’s history as a home underdog leans that way too — 14 of its last 18 in this spot went Under.

Army’s matchups are averaging 6.7 points below this total, while Tulsa has hit the Over just once this season. Despite the Golden Hurricane’s recent high-scoring games, Army’s ball-control offense and Tulsa’s inconsistency should keep this one under the line.

Oklahoma State at Tulsa odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Oklahoma State at Tulsa odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Oklahoma State Cowboys (2-0) pay a visit to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (1-1) Saturday. Kickoff from Chapman Stadium is set for noon ET (ESPN 2). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Oklahoma State vs. Tulsa odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Oklahoma State escaped with a 39-31 win in 2OT vs. Arkansas last Saturday but failed to cover as a 10-point home favorite. The Cowboys were out-gained 648-385 in total yards but forced 3 turnovers to complete the comeback after trailing 21-7 at the half. Oklahoma State is No. 14 in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Tulsa suffered a 28-24 loss at the Arkansas State Red Wolves Saturday but covered as a 9-point underdog. The Golden Hurricane held a 17-7 lead going into half but would come out and allow 3 touchdowns in the 3rd quarter while scoring only 1 themselves. Neither team would score in the final quarter.

Oklahoma State at Tulsa picks and predictions

Prediction

Oklahoma State 42, Tulsa 24

Moneyline

PASS.

The Cowboys (-1000) will pick up the win, but the juice is set far too heavy to risk betting on. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET OKLAHOMA STATE -17 (-115).

Oklahoma State is simply the much better team and will be able to take a lead here early. With RB Ollie Gordon II, the Cowboys will be able to run the air out of the ball to chew the clock and keep that commanding lead that will see them cover as heavy favorites.

The Cowboys are also 4-2 ATS in their 6 meetings with Tulsa since 2010.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 63 (-110).

Tulsa’s defense has not done well as it has allowed 28 points in each of its first 2 games, and with this being its biggest test thus far, I expect that to continue.

Oklahoma State has also proven that its defense will give up both points and yards as it has allowed over 1,000 yards and 51 points in just 2 games to start the season. The Over has also hit in each of the Cowboys’ 2 games this year.

This is a lean because an Over number of 63 is a bit high, especially when one team is so much better than the other.

Rice at Tulsa odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Rice at Tulsa odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-3, 1-1 AAC) welcome the Rice Owls (3-3, 1-1) to Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium Thursday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rice vs. Tulsa odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Tulsa had a bye in Week 7. The Golden Hurricane lost on the road 20-17 to Florida Atlantic in Week 6, failing to cover as a 2.5-point underdog. Tulsa is 2-1 at home this season and 1-2 against the spread (ATS) and 2-3-1 ATS overall.  QB Cardell Williams is the main threat for this offense, totaling 955 passing yards and 8 TDs in 6 games.

Rice, which lost to UConn 38-31 in Week 6 as a 10-point home favorite, also had a Week 7 bye.. The Owls are 4-2 ATS this season and 1-1 ATS on the road. QB JT Daniels is the star of the show for the Owls, throwing for 1,831 passing yards and 15 TDs in 6 games.

Rice at Tulsa picks and predictions

Prediction

Rice 31, Tulsa 28

Moneyline

BET RICE (+135).

Rice is 1-0 straight up and ATS as an underdog of 7 or fewer points. It beat Houston 43-41, covering as a 7-point underdog in Week 2. While it did lose to UConn, the Owls have the far more competent quarterback who has a 15-5 TD-to-INT ratio.

Tulsa has scored 25 or fewer points in 4 of 6 games and has scored 22 or fewer in 2 of its last 3. Williams has 8 TDs and 7 INTs which shouldn’t give bettors much confidence. For the value, take RICE (+135).

Against the spread

PASS.

Rice is 0-2 straight up on the road and has lost those games by 13 and 27. With this spread just a field goal, the value here is on Rice to win outright. Tulsa is 2-1 at home as well with its only loss to top-ten Oklahoma in Week 3.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 58.5 (-110).

Tulsa is 2-4 O/U this season and has alternated going Over and Under since losing 43-10 to Washington in Week 2, a game that went Under the 66 total. It is primed for an Over given those trends.

Rice’s defense has also allowed 37 or more points in 4 of 6 games. It has gone Over in 4 of its last 5 games and has a competent offense and a hole-filled defense.

Couple the 2 and Tulsa’s trends and back the OVER 58.5 (-110).

Temple at Tulsa odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Temple at Tulsa odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Temple Owls (2-2) and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (2-2) meet Thursday night at Chapman Stadium in Tulsa in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) opener for both sides. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Temple vs. Tulsa odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Temple has alternated wins and losses in each of its 4 outings so far, registering wins over Akron and Norfolk State of the FCS, while suffering lopsided losses at Rutgers, and home against Miami last Saturday. The Owls have posted a 1-3 against the spread (ATS) mark, including 0-3 ATS against FBS opponents. The Under is 3-1 through 4 games, with the Over cashing last week.

Tulsa opened with a 42-7 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff of the FCS before taking it on the chin in a pair of losses to Washington and Oklahoma. It rebounded with a solid 22-14 win at Northern Illinois last Saturday, cashing as a 4-point underdog. The Under is 3-1 through 4 games for the Golden Cane, too.

Temple at Tulsa picks and predictions

Prediction

Tulsa 32, Temple 29

Moneyline

Tulsa (-162) is a little on the pricey side for my liking. The Golden Hurricane make me a little nervous against Temple (+134), and the only reason I like Tulsa is because it is at home.

Tulsa has been terrible against the pass this season, allowing 302.0 yards per game, which is 125th in FBS, according to covers.com. The one thing the Golden Hurricane does well is run the ball, gobbling up 170.5 yards per game on the ground.

Temple’s strength on offense is passing, and it should find little resistance in that aspect of the game. The Owls can’t stop the run, though, allowing 195.3 yards per outing, so that’s a huge concern.

PASS.

Against the spread

TEMPLE +3.5 (-115) isn’t a great offense by any stretch, but QB E.J. Warner has proven to be dangerous, throwing for exactly 1,000 yards with 5 TDs and 4 INTs. He’ll be a handful to contain for the Tulsa -3.5 (-105) defense.

When Tulsa has the ball, watch for the 2-headed monster of RBs Jordan Ford and Anthony Watkins. Both players have rushed for over 215 yards while scoring 1 TD apiece.

Over/Under

OVER 55.5 (-110) might end up being the best play on the board.

The strength of each offense is the weakness of the opponent, so both of these teams should be able to move the ball up and down Skelly Field with impunity.

The last time these teams met in Tulsa on Nov. 20, 2021, the total ended up going Over, and the total has gone high in both meetings in Oklahoma since Nov. 2017.

Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Oklahoma vs. Tulsa odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Sooners defeated SMU 28-11 to cover as 16.5-point home favorites in Week 2. The Under also hit with the total being set at 68.5 points. Oklahoma has outscored its 1st 2 opponents by a combined score of 101-11 and is the No. 16 ranked team in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

The Golden Hurricane pushed as 33-point road underdogs in a 43-10 loss to No. 8 Washington in Week 2. With only 53 points scored against Washington, the Under of 66 points was also achieved in last week’s contest.

Oklahoma at Tulsa picks and predictions

Prediction

Oklahoma 48, Tulsa 9

Moneyline

Even though Oklahoma should cruise to a road win on Saturday over Tulsa, just AVOID the moneyline in this game. Wagering on a team at -5000 odds is never a good idea in sports betting.

Against the spread

OKLAHOMA -28.5 (-110) is the play against the spread with the Sooners covering the spread in each of their first 2 contests this season. Tulsa also has 2 QBs on its roster who are questionable for Saturday’s matchup, which could prevent the offense from doing much damage against Oklahoma.

The Golden Hurricane are also 0-1-1 ATS to begin the season after going 3-8-1 ATS in 2022.

Over/Under

While the Sooners should score with ease on Saturday, UNDER 59.5 (-110) is how I’d wager on the total in this showdown. Oklahoma has allowed 11 points all season (all 11 points came in Week 2 against SMU) and Tulsa could be without its starting QB.

Both of these programs are a combined 1-3 to the Over in the 1st 2 weeks of the season.

Tulsa at Washington odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Tulsa at Washington odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane (1-0) and the Washington Huskies (1-0) meet Saturday at Husky Stadium in Seattle. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET (PAC-12 Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Tulsa vs. Washington odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Tulsa roughed up Arkansas-Pine Bluff of the FCS at Skelly Field last Saturday in the season opener, piling up 517 total yards of offense to just 252 for the Golden Lions. The Golden Hurricane did trail 7-0 into the 2nd quarter before rattling off 42 unanswered points for the 42-7 victory. Tulsa won despite a minus-2 turnover ratio, too, something it must clean up in Seattle.

Washington thumped Boise State 56-19, as QB Michael Penix Jr. threw for 450 yards and 5 TDs in the rout. Like Tulsa, UW was scoreless in the 1st quarter last week, trailing 6-0 heading to the 2nd quarter. It also trailed 9-7 with just under 8 minutes to go before the offense came alive.

The Huskies managed 568 total yards of offense, mostly through the air, while winning the turnover battle 2-0. If there is an area of concern, Washington was just 4 of 10 on 3rd-down efficiency.

Washington is No. 8 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Tulsa at Washington picks and predictions

Prediction

Washington 51, Tulsa 17

Moneyline

Nothing to see here, move along.

Against the spread

TULSA +34.5 (-110) is catching an awful lot of points in this battle in Seattle. Washington -34.5 (-110) routed Boise State last week, but Tulsa has the offensive weapons, especially through the air, to make a little noise in this game. That’s assuming the Golden Hurricane can rectify the turnover situation from a week ago.

Washington’s Penix Jr. is one of the best signal callers in the nation, and the Huskies will roll up big numbers again through the air. But I expect a backdoor cover with a late Tulsa score to make things look a little more respectable.

Over/Under

OVER 65.5 (-110) is the lean, but go lightly.

Like the line, I believe the total will be flipped with a late score by Tulsa. While the result of the game won’t be close to changing, the score will be far from meaningless, and could even be a bad beat, which we saw frequently already in Week 1.

Tulsa scored 42 points, although it hit the Under against its FCS opponent. Washington nearly took care of the Over itself last week, and will do a lot of the heavy lifting here to get this one across the finish line, too.

Tulsa at Houston picks and predictions

Prediction

Houston 78, Tulsa 53

Moneyline

PASS. Nothing to see here.

Against the spread

A sliver of interest in Tulsa here, just on the spread being inflated a bit too high. But the 1st meeting — an 89-50 Houston win at Tulsa — and a few comps on both sides give enough pause. AVOID.

Over/Under

Houston plays at a slow pace, just with amazingly efficient results at each end of the floor. But that pace has slowed even more of late, a fact masked by bloated 3-point numbers for and against in those games.

The Cougars will be off for 7 days after this game. Perhaps they look for a quick game involving more rested starters. Peg a lean on this one going a bit low. BACK THE UNDER 138.5 (-105).

Tulsa at Cincinnati picks and predictions

Prediction

Cincinnati 84, Tulsa 67

Moneyline

AVOID.

There’s no reason to wager on the moneyline in this game at the current odds (-1300) for Cincinnati to secure a victory at home.

Against the spread

CINCINNATI -14.5 (-115) seems like the logical choice in this game despite it being such a massive spread. This is a perfect get-right spot for the Bearcats after playing the No. 3 ranked team close over the weekend.

Tulsa is 1-7-1 ATS in its last 9 games against a team with a winning record. On the other hand, the home team is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings between the Golden Hurricane and the Bearcats.

Over/Under

With Cincinnati capable of scoring points in bunches and Tulsa allowing plenty of points, OVER 143.5 (-110) is the play. The Bearcats average 76.5 points per game (72nd in the nation), while the Golden Hurricane surrender 76.3 points per game (335th in the nation).

Tulsa has hit the Over in 8 of its last 9 games overall. Cincinnati has gone 4-0 to the Over in its last 4 games against a team with a losing record.

Memphis at Tulsa odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Memphis at Tulsa odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Memphis Tigers (16-5, 6-2 AAC) and Tulsa Golden Hurricane (5-14, 1-7) meet Sunday in American Athletic Conference action. Tip at the Donald W. Reynolds Center is at 5 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Memphis vs. Tulsa odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Memphis is 4-0 straight up (SU) in its last 4 games. The Tigers had lost 8 in a row against the spread (ATS) until a Jan. 22 win as a 2.5-point underdog at Cincinnati and Thursday’s cover of a -13 tag in a 99-84 win over SMU. The up-tempo Tigers rank 2nd in AAC scoring at 79.8 points per game.

Tulsa, which has the AAC’s 11th-ranked defense (76.1 PPG), is 1-8 in its last 9 games and 2-6-1 ATS. The Hurricane has yielded a 48.8% accuracy mark from the floor over that stretch. Against the Tigers, however, Tulsa has won 7 in a row ATS.

Memphis at Tulsa picks and predictions

Prediction

Memphis 77, Tulsa 67

Moneyline

PASS. No lean either way.

Against the spread

The Tigers are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games after scoring more than 90 points in their previous game. They are also 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games vs. against teams playing sub-.400 ball.

Some shooting regression and a lower score would not be a surprise here. Memphis is scheduled to have 5 days off after this game and could get caught flat-footed in a sleepy Sunday spot while looking forward to that off time.

Tulsa fits as a bad-luck 5 so far and 1 worth some partial-unit action in this one. BACK THE GOLDEN HURRICANE +12.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The Under is 5-1 in the last 6 series meetings.

Memphis is a fast team, but 1 that has slowed a bit over recent weeks. A normalized-pace game — with a total in the mid-140s — is likely enough to warrant action on the UNDER 152.5 (-105).
