2024 4-Star LB and Aggie signee Tristan Jernigan details why he chose Texas A&M

2024 4-star linebacker and Texas A&M signee Tristan Jernigan detail why he chose the Aggies over Alabama.

Last Friday, Texas A&M and head coach Mike Elko were given a recruiting gift just days before Christmas, as 2024 four-star linebacker and Tupelo, Mississippi native Tristan Jernigan signed with the program, fulfilling his longstanding commitment after Alabama made a final push attempt a flip.

Jernigan, who stands at 6’2″and weighs 220 pounds, held over 23 total offers and took four total visits, including two official visits to College Station on June 9 and Dec. 15, after committing to the program on May 1.

While Jernigan was a notable “hard commit” throughout the Summer and Fall, Jimbo Fisher’s firing on Nov. 12 caused several commits in the 2024 cycle to re-examine their options, including Tristan Jernigan.

However, credit new head coach Mike Elko for quickly developing a now-close relationship while sharing his defensive vision for Jernigan’s collegiate future and fending off Alabama head coach Nick Saban from stealing yet another Texas A&M prospect. After swiftly announcing that he would be signing with the Maroon & White, Jernigan, through Aggie Football Network, he explained what ultimately won him over when it came to putting pen to paper.

“What made me make the decision is the culture at the University. They have all the tools and the things you need to be successful. I want to bring a national championship to Texas A&M.”

After Jernigan and four-star defensive end Dealyn Evans signed back to back on Friday, Elko and his staff have now signed 14 out of 16 players in the 2024 class, as five-star athlete Terry Bussey and five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley hang in the balance ahead of Feb. 7 (National Signing Day).

2024 4-star LB Tristan Jernigan signs with Texas A&M over Alabama and Ole Miss

Replacing All-American linebacker Edgerrin Cooper will be no easy task but the Aggies found their leading candidate on Friday afternoon.

Replacing All-American linebacker Edgerrin Cooper will be no easy task but Texas A&M may have found its leading candidate in the final hours of Early Signing Day 2023.

4-star linebacker Tristan Jernigan signed with Texas A&M on Friday afternoon, choosing the Aggies program over Alabama and Ole Miss among others.

“I’ll be taking my talents to the University of Texas A&M,” Jernigan announced Friday at a press conference held at Tupelo High School in Mississippi.

Jernigan is 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds. He had 23 total offers and took four total visits. Jernigan took a trip to Bryan-College Station over the summer on June 9 when former head coach Jimbo Fisher was still at the helm of the program.

Following the coaching change, Jernigan and his family did their due diligence. The Tupelo, Miss. native visited Tuscaloosa on Dec. 8 and Ole Miss one week later. He also took another visit to Kyle Field on Dec. 15, where he met new head coach Mike Elko and other members of his staff.

To say Elko made a positive first impression would be an understatement given Friday’s signing. Other notable universities that Jernigan had offers to include Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Oregon and UTSA.

2024 3-Star LB and Aggie commit Tristan Jernigan announces his signing date

After multiple visits to SEC rivals, 2024 3-star LB and Aggie commit Tristan Jernigan has announced his early signing date for next week.

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class has already dealt with several losses after hiring new head coach Mike Elko, but in the age of the evergrowing transfer portal, help is on the way ahead of the 2024 season.

However, the Aggies must hang on to the bulk of their 2024 class, including three-star linebacker Tristan Jernigan. Earlier this week, Jernigan, who’s been committed to A&M since early May, announced that he will sign his letter of intent on Friday, Dec. 22, inside the Tueplo (MS) high school dome.

Late last month, Jernigan took the firing of now-former head coach Jimbo Fisher, as many of his fellow defensive commits did, excited to see what Elko, who served as Texas A&M’s defensive coordinator from 2018-2021, could bring to the Aggies D as soon as next season.

However, like any promising player, Jernigan’s ability on the field garnered him plenty of attention from other SEC programs, including Alabama and Ole Miss. After taking an official visit to Alabama on Dec. 8, Jernigan will head to Oxford (MS) to visit the Rebels on the 15th but reportedly still plans to take another visit to College Station at the end of the month.

According to 247Sports, Jernigan is currently positioned as the 40th-ranked linebacker and the 14th-ranked player out of Mississippi State in the 2024 cycle.

As of now, Jernigan and three-star LB Tyanthony Smith remain the lone linebackers committed in the Aggies 2024 class.

2024 3-star LB and Aggie commit Tristan Jernigan shuts down his recruitment, and is 100% committed to Texas A&M

Announcing via Twitter, 2024 3-star LB Tristan Jernigan has shut down his recruitment and is 100% committed to Texas A&M.

Announcing late Tuesday night, 2024 three-star linebacker and Tupelo, Mississippi native Tristan Jernigan, who committed to Texas A&M on May 1, has shut down his recruitment and remains 100% committed to the Maroon and White.

After recent visits to Arkansas and Alabama, Jimbo Fisher’s primary worry has now been put to bed, knowing that one of the most underrated defensive prospects in the 2024 cycle is staying put.

Jernigan’s profile has continued to rise this summer, just months ahead of his highly anticipated senior campaign, receiving multiple SEC offers. At the same time, his official visit to College Station on June 9 was even more important than all of his knew. Coming off of a stellar 2022 junior campaign, Jernigan totaled 96 tackles (52 solo), 8.5 sacks, and an average of eight tackles per game.

A favorite of Texas A&M defensive coordinator and linebackers coach D.J. Durkin, Jernigan’s versatile skillset and sideline-to-sideline ability make him a perfect fit for A&M’s 4-2-5 defensive scheme where speed, athleticism, and tackling ability are critical for success, two traits Jernigan thrives in the middle of the defense.

As Fisher and his staff continue to host prospect after prospect in the 2024 cycle, one thing remains clear; Tristan Jernigan will be donning Maroon and White as soon as the 2024 season. Gig’ Em, Tristan!

2024 linebacker and Aggie commit Tristan Jernigan knows his best football is ahead of him

Texas A&M’s 2024 linebacker commit Tristan Jernigan is well aware that his 3-star designation is just the start of things to come

Texas A&M landed one of the most underrated prospects in the 2024 recruiting class when versatile linebacker Tristan Jernigan committed to the program out of Mississippi and despite his semi-insulting three-star rating at this early stage of the recruiting cycles’ final ratings, his future in Aggieland is oh so bright.

Jernigan made the announcement on Monday, May 1 at about 8:00 pm CT., posting on social media (Twitter) about his future plans, stating,

“First and foremost, I just wanna thank God and my family for everything y’all have done for me, I thank y’all for supporting me through this process and I’m ready to be an AGGIE. I’ve worked so hard for this and I’m proud of myself, thank ya’ll.”

After a stellar junior campaign at Tupelo High School where he recorded 96 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and two fumble recoveries, all Jernian is asking for is to ignore his tentative three-star rating, and focus on his on-field production. After participating in the Elite 11/All-22 camp for linebackers, Jernigan ended up earning MVP honors after another incredible showing in front of the best prospects the position has to offer.

Catching the attention of every Aggie fan, and of course, those of us who cover the program, Good Bull Hunting Managing Editor Robert Behrens was the first to note of his recent achievement, stating in a tweet, “This guy won’t be a “three-star” for much longer.” Well, Jernigan’s response was short and simple:

Entering his senior season at Tupelo with even more to prove, Tristan Jernigan’s grit and determination paired with a skill set that he’ll continue to refine with more reps is a great sign for Texas A&M at a position of need heading into the future. Gig ‘Em, Tristan!

2024 3-star linebacker Tristan Jernigan receives ‘Crystal Ball’ to land with Texas A&M

Texas A&M received a big-time prediction from 247Sports that 2024 3-star LB Tristan Jernigan will land with the Maroon and White.

Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher may not rely on recruiting sites as much as we do, but when it comes to 247Sports’ ‘Crystal Ball” predictions, the future becomes very clear for a number of future collegiate players as their recruiting journey comes to a close.

Within the 2024 cycle, Texas A&M has its sights set on a number of high-profile prospects at numerous positions, but at the linebacker position where depth will take a significant hit after the 2023 season, 2024 3-star LB Tristan Jernigan has become a priority recruit for Fisher and his staff since offering him in late February. After placing the Aggies within his Top 3 program list, competing with Oregon and Georgia, the Maroon and White have made significant headway.

Ranked as the 45th linebacker and 17th-ranked player in Mississippi, Jernigan took an unofficial visit to College Station on March 27, and while communication has stayed consistent between both parties, 247Sports analyst Steve Wiltfong has officially predicted that Jernigan will indeed land with the Aggies.

During his 2022 junior season at Tupelo High School, he led his team in tackles with 96, combined with 8 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks on the year.

Texas A&M has made the Top 3 program list for 2024 3-star linebacker Tristan Jernigan

Texas A&M has made standout 2024 3-star linebacker Tristan Jernigan’s Top 3 program list

Recruiting at the linebacker position has been a very sore subject for Aggie fans for more than a decade now, and ever since losing out of five-star generational talent in linebacker Anthony Hill during the 2023 cycle, we may be entering “cursed” territory, but low and behold, more help may be on the way out of the 2024 class.

On Tuesday, 3-star linebacker and Tupelo, Mississippi State native Tristan Jernigan, one the rising defensive talents in the class, including Texas A&M in his Top 3 program list Oregon and Georgia. Jernigan is just a month removed from his March 27 visit to College Station, he discussed his campus visit with GigEm247, specifically raving about Texas A&M defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin’s secondary coaching duties as the sole linebacker coach for the 2023 season.

It was good. I really like the university. It was really big. They’ll be in my top three,” Jernigan stated before expressing what stood out the most. “The vibe and the energy that they had.”

When discussing Dunkin’s’ role last LB coach:

That’s really good. I really love that. That’s why I said the school will be in my top three. I’m really thinking about that.” “It was a good impression. He’s always smiling. He’s always energetic. He’s a generous coach.”

Listed at 6-2, 220 lbs, Jernigan is ranked as the 46th linebacker in the 2024 class according to 247Sports. During his 2022 junior season at Tupelo High School, he led his team in tackles with 96, combined with 8 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks on the year.

Despite losing out on current Texas roster member Anthony Hill, the Aggies landed 3-star linebacker Taurean York, who despite his lack of recruiting hype possesses all the tools to be an instant contributor as soon as this season. As for Tristan Jernigan, landing with the Aggies would not only provide a huge boost to their 2024 class but potentially create a huge momentum boost ahead of a very important recruiting push this summer.
