Trevor Etienne likely to opt for Florida over LSU, Clemson

Might be time to scratch him from the list.

We are on commitment watch as Trevor Etienne of Jennings, Louisiana, is set to make his pledge for the 2022 class. The younger brother of Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne narrowed down his list to Clemson, Florida, and the in-state LSU Tigers. Etienne will commit to his new team on Jan. 8.

The Clemson Tigers does make a lot of sense due to the fact that his brother won a national championship there with Dabo Swinney and Trevor Lawrence. LSU makes sense due to them being in the state he played high school football. And then we have the Florida Gators who hired former ULL head coach Billy Napier. He knows the recruiting grounds and likely why Etienne is looking at the Orange and Blue.

According to the latest crystal ball predictions from 247Sports, it appears that he is likely to pledge to the Gators. A knife right to the back of the LSU football team that is still looking for a running back commitment to their less than stellar 2022 recruiting class.

It isn’t just the recruiting analysts at 247Sports that have Etienne to the Gators either. On3 has the four-star running back at 95.3% to Florida. This might mean that Brian Kelly and associate head coach Frank Wilson will have to shift their sights elsewhere in the 2022 class if they want to add a running back.

The Tigers are also competing with division rivals Auburn for Lake Charles running back TreVonte’ Citizen. He originally committed to LSU on Jul. 19 and backed off his pledge on Nov. 28. LSU has remained in the hunt but the Auburn Tigers and Texas Longhorns among others have stayed in contact. Feels as though this will come down to the battle of the Tigers.

For as much talent as is in the transfer portal, running back isn’t one of them. The top guys are slated to join Alabama (Jahmyr Gibbs) and Ole Miss (Zach Evans). It won’t be the worse thing if the Tigers don’t land a running back in this class as they do have options with John Emery Jr, Corey Kiner, Armoni Goodwin, and Josh Williams among others.

It likely would put an emphasis on the 2023 class where the Tigers have offered a total of seven backs, three of which are ranked among the top five at the position. Top Louisiana running back hails from Baton Rouge with four-star Kaleb Jackson of Liberty Magnet.

Report: MSU football making ‘huge push’ for 2022 4-star RB TreVonte’ Citizen

MSU is reportedly making a “huge push” for elite 2022 running back prospect TreVonte’ Citizen

Michigan State is reportedly making a “huge” final push for elite 2022 running back prospect TreVonte’ Citizen.

247Sports national director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong reported on Monday that the Spartans are making a “huge push” for Citizen and one of three schools standing out at the moment. Citizen is a four-star running back prospect who was previously committed to LSU, and received a scholarship offer from the Spartans on Nov. 28 after he reopened his recruitment.

Citizen is ranked as the No. 9 running back and No. 113 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2022 class.

TreVonte’ Citizen picks up offer from Mario Cristobal, Miami

LSU has more competition for Lake Charles RB TreVonte’ Citizen.

The LSU Tigers are still aiming to add a running back in the 2022 recruiting class as they march towards the second national signing period. TreVonte’ Citizen originally committed to LSU but backed off of his commitment after Ed Orgeron was relieved of his duties as the Tigers head coach.

It appears that now Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes are looking at the former Tigers pledge. Much like the Tigers, the Canes are looking for their first commitment from a running back. They have nine recruits signed to their 2022 class and Citizen could be No. 10.

LSU is hoping that Frank Wilson can help close the deal on the Lake Charles running back. Wilson spent the last two seasons in Lake Charles as the head coach at McNeese. He returned to the Tigers as part of Brian Kelly’s inaugural staff.

If Cristobal is able to sway Citizen to South Beach, LSU has one other option in Trevor Etienne. The brother of the Jaguars running back Travis Etienne is looking at LSU as well as Clemson and Florida. Teams will have another six weeks to lock down commitments ahead of the final signing period on Feb. 2.

Five recruits that LSU needs to make priority

These five recruits should be top priority for Brian Kelly.

The LSU Tigers signed all 13 of their commitments on the first day of the early signing period. Looking beyond those 13 plus the one incoming transfer, there is work to be done for Brian Kelly.

The new head coach still needs to fill out his coaching staff while looking to add to the current roster. Two of the biggest names still on the board have the LSU Tigers firmly in the mix. Harold Perkins and Jacoby Mathews are both waiting until January to make their commitments.

We look at five recruits who should be the top priority for the Purple and Gold in the 2022 recruiting class.

LSU loses their only running back commit from the 2022 class

More bad news for LSU on a day filled with it.

Another blow in a series of blows for the LSU football program. Their lone running back commit from the 2022 class has decided to reopen his commitment. This came just hours after Billy Napier and Lincoln Riley were reportedly leaving for other jobs. Both were linked to the LSU opening. This could be tied to it, or it could be a coincidence.

TreVonte Citizen is coming off a visit to Auburn. Citizen was the No. 111 rated prospect in the country and No. 9 running back of the class. It appears that the Lake Charles product could be heading to another state with Auburn, Texas, and Texas A&M all vying for his pledge.

“I would like to thank everyone who was involved in my commitment to LSU,” Citizen said on Twitter. “Thank you to the entire LSU coaching staff for providing me with an opportunity. With that being said, I will be decommitting from LSU. My recruitment is now 100% open.”

His decommitment knocked LSU’s class down to No. 15 in the 247Sports team composite rankings and No. 6 in the SEC. Both Kentucky and Missouri leapfrogging them. There have been concerns with their top prospect in Walker Howard, who has taken visits to Notre Dame and Ole Miss. With Napier moving from Lafayette to Gainesville, there is a possibility that he heads east.

With still no head coach announcement coming, this might just be the tip of the iceberg. It remains to be seen just how much of this class can be salvaged as other schools are ready to pounce.

Former Texas RB target TreVonte’ Citizen decommits from LSU

Four-star RB TreVonte’ Citizen commits to LSU over Texas, Auburn

As expected after Texas landed Jamarion Miller, TreVonte’ Citizen announced his commitment to LSU on Monday.

At one point, four-star running back TreVonte’ Citizen was one of Texas’ primary targets as a complimentary running back to Jaydon Blue in their 2022 recruiting class.

When the Longhorns instead landed a commitment from four-star running back Jamarion Miller on June 28, the general feel was that Citizen would decide between LSU, Auburn and Texas A&M.

On Monday, Citizen officially decided to stay close to home and announced his commitment to LSU. He is rated the No. 9 overall prospect from the state of Louisiana and the No. 11 running back for the 2022 cycle according to 247Sports.

“I’m excited to compete against, and with the best in the country. We’re bringing a national title back to Louisiana,” Citizen stated when announcing his commitment.

Citizen played both sides of the ball for Lake Charles College Prep in 2020 and rushed the ball 62 times for 615 yards and eight touchdowns. He added on five receptions for 48 yards through the air.
