Rams are signing All-Pro CB Tre’Davious White to $8.5M deal

The Rams are signing former All-Pro CB Tre’Davious White to a one-year deal worth up to $10M

Even after signing Darious Williams to a three-year deal, the Los Angeles Rams were in the market for more cornerback help. They’re adding another veteran to the secondary, agreeing to a one-year contract with former Bills corner Tre’Davious White.

White visited the Rams last week as he weighed his options on the free-agent market.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the deal is worth $8.5 million and has a max value of $10 million.

The Bills cut White this offseason after he played just four games in 2023 and six in 2022, struggling with injuries in each of the last two years. He was also limited to 11 games in 2021, one year after being voted a second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler.

White finished fifth in Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2019 and was named a first-team All-Pro, leading the NFL with six interceptions. There are no doubts about his coverage ability, but injuries are a concern for the 29-year-old corner.

Sean McDermott even ‘can’t believe’ Tre’Davious White’s time with Bills is over

Sean McDermott even ‘can’t believe’ Tre’Davious White’s time with #Bills is over:

The Buffalo Bills front office has always shown a fondness for cornerback Tre’Davious White.

With the dust settled on some salary cap moves early on in free agency and White officially being released by the Bills, emotions poured out from the team at the NFL owners meetings.

The team do not want to release talented and fan favorite players like White. But the 29-year-old being cut helped Buffalo get under the 2024 salary cap. On top of that, injuries add up too.

“That’s the hard part about this job,” general manager Brandon Beane said. “There are a lot of hard things, but it doesn’t get harder than saying goodbye to so many of those guys who have meant so much.”

Taking the heartfelt comments even further was Sean McDermott. From the event down in Orlando, the Bills head coach noted how he even “can’t believe” White is no longer n the roster.

“Emotional, right?” McDermott said. “You can’t believe what we’re discussing. You know eventually it’s going to come because of the lifespan of an NFL player, but it came way too early in my mind.”

McDermott’s full commentary can be found in the WKBW-TV clip below:

10 best available free agents to fit Raiders needs

10 best available free agents to fit Raiders needs

It’s Friday, which means the end of the work week. It also means it’s been two work weeks since the free agent market opened for business. The Raiders handled their number one business, which was to land top free agent defensive tackle Christian Wilkins. His addition along with the return of Adam Butler and John Jenkins helped to solidify the definsive interior, but that still leaves them with plenty to do to get this team in good shape headed into the draft.

They have some $28.3 million in cap room with which to try and add some upgrades, competition, and insurance at several position still in need. And there is still some talent out there who could provide what they need.

This is the top ten free agents still on the market who could come in and fill a need position for the Raiders.

Giants to host CB Tre’Davious White for a visit

The New York Giants will host former Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White for a free agent visit this week.

The New York Giants have been hard at work since free agency began and that will continue this week when they host former Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White for a visit in East Rutherford.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that White met with the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday and will also meet with the Tennessee Titans in addition to the Giants.

The 29-year-old White was a first-round pick of the Bills in the 2017 NFL draft and, to date, has spent his entire career in Western New York.

In 82 career games (82 starts), White has recorded 311 tackles (242 solo, 12 for a loss), five forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, six QB hits, 3.0 sacks, 68 passes defensed and 18 interceptions.

White was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2017, earned Pro Bowl honors in 2019 and 2020, and was named an All-Pro twice — First Team in 2019 and Second Team in 2020.

During that impressive 2019 season, White led the NFL with six interceptions (tied with Stephon Gilmore and Anthony Harris).

White obviously has a history with Giants general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll due to their crossover in Buffalo.

During this week’s workout, the Giants are likely to dig deep into White’s injury history. He suffered a torn ACL in 2021 and a torn Achilles in Week 4 of last season.

Titans, CB Tre’Davious White slated for free-agent visit

The Titans and former All-Pro CB Tre’Davious White are reportedly set for a free-agent visit.

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly one of three teams slated to meet with former Buffalo Bills cornerback, Tre’Davious White.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the veteran free agent will take a meeting with the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday before visiting the Titans and New York Giants later in the week.

White was once considered arguably the best at his position in the NFL, with the 29-year-old seeing two Pro Bowl nods and one first-team All-Pro over seven seasons with the Buffalo Bills.

But injuries derailed his career in recent years, with the LSU product suffering a torn left ACL in 2021 and a torn right Achilles in 2023.

Assuming he’ll be cheap and on a one-year deal, White is absolutely worth a flyer for Tennessee, a team in need of a second starter on the boundary.

The possibility of the Titans trading for L’Jarius Sneed seems to be fizzling out and there’s a good chance Tennessee targets a cornerback in this year’s draft, which could serve as an insurance policy for White and a potential long-term solution all in one shot.

Former Bills CB Tre’Davious White has free-agent visits lined up

Former #Bills CB Tre’Davious White has free-agent visits lined up:

Tre’Davious White is getting a start on continuing his NFL career, post-Buffalo Bills.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, two teams to watch in terms of White’s services are the Los Angeles Rams and Las Vegas Raiders. The two teams are going to bring White in for free-agent visits:

Prior to the start of free agency, White was released by the Bills in a salary cap move. The fan favorite was the first draft pick of the team’s current front office led by head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane. That was back at the 2017 NFL draft.

His departure cleared approximately $4 million in salary cap space. In addition to White, a slew of other players were axed by the team including fellow All-Pro defensive back Jordan Poyer.

White’s departure came following a second long-term injury for him. He went down in the first half of the 2023 season due to an Achilles injury.

White’s Bills career closed out after seven seasons and 18 interceptions–It remains to be seen what type of contract the 29-year-old earn as a free agent after injuries.

Free agent former All Pro CB Tre’Davious White to visit Raiders

Raiders to host former Bills All Pro CB Tre’Davious White this week

The Raiders still have a need at cornerback and from the looks of it they are now looking to fill it. They have a visit lined up with former Bills All Pro CB Tre’Davious White this week. And it looks like he gonna hop over the Los Angeles to visit the Rams as well.

White was once considered one of the best cornerbacks in the league. He was an All Pro in 2019 and a Pro Bowl in 2019 and 2020.

Then the injuries started.

White has missed 30 games the past three seasons with various injuries. The most recent being a torn Achilles that cost him 13 games last season. The injury history was part of what had him released by the Bills and why teams would like to get a look at him before they decide whether they want to invest in him.

Obviously if he could stay healthy, he would be a big get for whomever signs him. But they would sign him knowing they have to have a capable backup ready to step in at a moment’s notice.

The sky is not falling on the Buffalo Bills

The sky is not falling on the Buffalo Bills (via @JBaileyNFL):

Alright, everyone take a deep breath and listen up.

It was a bleak day at One Bills Drive in Buffalo. Several long-term stars, including center Mitch Morse, cornerback Tre’Davious White, and safety Jordan Poyer were all released as Buffalo continues to gear toward getting back under the cap. However, the reactions that followed made it seem as if the sky was falling on the Bills.

Talks of “well, it looks like the Bills’ Super Bowl window has closed” or “Buffalo is officially rebuilding” started making the rounds on the app formerly known as Twitter.

Mind you, this all stems from Buffalo releasing a 33 year-old safety, a 32 year old center (whom they may actually try to bring back on a cheaper deal) and a 29 year old cornerback who has missed 24 of the team’s last 34 regular season games. That is what has everyone sticking a fork in the Buffalo Bills? That is what their window is hinged upon? Folks, if you have Josh Allen, your window is never closed. You’re never rebuilding, you’re reloading.

Now, in terms of a fan perspective, the sentimental wound is very real, and I can respect that. Poyer and White helped end the playoff drought in 2017, and Morse has been a focal point of the team’s offensive line since 2019. These are guys that have built relationships with the fans and the community, so of course it hurts seeing them go if you are a Bills fan. However, in terms of the on-field impact, the Bills are more than capable to retooling.

And if there is one group that Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott consistently knock out of the park, it’s defensive backs. Poyer and Micah Hyde are prime examples of that, They took two cast-offs and made them the best safety duo in football for half a decade. They turned seventh-round pick Dane Jackson into a reliable rotational cornerback. They got the absolute most out of Rasul Douglas after acquiring him ahead of the trade deadline.

On top of that, according to Spotrac, if the Bills do a full base salary and roster bonus conversion to signing bonus to Josh Allen’s deal, they can free up $22.7 million in cap space, which would make them cap compliant.

The day was filled with hard goodbyes for fans, but the Buffalo Bills are fine. They’ll need to address the secondary in free agency and the draft, as well as wide receiver, but this is far from Armageddon.

Former LSU cornerback Tre’Davious White released by Buffalo Bills

The Bills are moving on from former LSU star and NFL all-pro Tre’Davious White.

[autotag]Tre’Davious White[/autotag] will hit NFL free agency after the Bills released the six-year veteran on Wednesday. White, who played at LSU from 2013-16, was one of several cuts the Bills made this week as they aim to get under the salary cap.

LSU has produced several NFL stars in the secondary over the years, and White was one of the best. He was first-team All-Pro in 2019 and made the second-team in 2020.

White has struggled to stay healthy the last three seasons. He’s played just 23 games in three years, in a span that includes a torn ACL and Achilles tendon.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, moving on from White will save the Bills $10.2 million.

White was a four-year contributor at LSU, totaling 34 pass breakups over the course of his career and never having a season with less than seven. He earned all-conference honors in 2015 and 2016 before the Bills used a first-round pick on him in 2017.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter breaks down Bills releasing Jordan Poyer, Tre’Davious White (video):

The Buffalo Bills had to make a bunch of tough decisions.

Plenty of former Pro Bowlers and fan favorites were released this week because of salary cap concerns. Among them were the likes of cornerback Tre’Davious White and safety Jordan Poyer.

The series of cuts caught the NFL world off guard. ESPN’s Adam Schefter did his best in breaking it all down, which can be found in the clip below:
