Ravens acquire CB Tre’Davious White from Rams for a 7th-round pick

Ravens acquire CB Tre’Davious White from Rams for a 2026 7th-round pick

The Ravens were looking for more cornerback depth, and after missing out on Marshon Lattimore, the team acquired a former Pro Bowl cover guy.

Adam Schefter reports that the Rams are trading Tre’Davious White to Baltimore for a 2026 seventh-round pick.

Baltimore has the 32nd-ranked pass defense in the NFL, and White started the first four games of the season for the Rams, but he has been inactive for their last four games.

White, who tore his Achilles while playing for the Bills last season, had 12 tackles and two passes defensed in his four appearances.

He’ll join a cornerback group that includes Marlon Humphrey, Brandon Stephens, Nate Wiggins, Arthur Maulet, and T.J. Tampa.

Will Rams trade Tre’Davious White? It’s possible, but ‘nothing is imminent’

Sean McVay says there’s a chance the Rams will trade Tre’Davious White before today’s deadline but nothing’s imminent

The Los Angeles Rams have until 4 p.m. ET today to make any trades before the deadline, and while they’ve been aggressive at times in the past, it doesn’t sound like they will be this year.

One player who could be dealt is Tre’Davious White, the former All-Pro cornerback who signed with the Rams this offseason. White has been a healthy scratch in the last four games because of poor play and the Rams have allowed him to seek a trade. Sean McVay has said the team would prefer to keep him, but he also understands that White wants a chance to contribute this season – and that’s unlikely to happen with the Rams.

On Monday, McVay was asked about the possibility of trading White and while there is a chance it could happen, “nothing is imminent.”

“There’s a possibility. Les [Snead] has had some dialogues with some teams. Those are very fluid conversations so there is a possibility, but nothing is imminent as of right now,” he said.

As far as trades in general, McVay said “there hasn’t been anything that we’ve really talked about,” so it doesn’t sound like the Rams will be very active before the deadline.

“’Tre’ is a guy that I know there has been some dialogue between Les, Kevin [Demoff] and his agent, so we’ll see if anything ends up coming to fruition,” McVay added.

If the Rams do trade White, don’t expect much in return. It’ll likely be a late-round pick swap or a future seventh-round pick. The Rams have no leverage considering he’s been on the bench for half the season, playing zero snaps in the last four games.

Rams allowing Tre’Davious White to seek a trade amid ‘not-ideal situation for him’

The Rams are letting Tre’Davious White seek a trade despite wanting to keep the veteran cornerback in LA

Tre’Davious White was one of the Rams’ big offseason additions, signing the former All-Pro cornerback to a one-year deal. White was coming off a torn Achilles suffered last October so the Rams made his contract incentive-heavy, but things haven’t worked out for either side.

White has been a healthy scratch for the last three games and his time with the Rams could be coming to an end. Sean McVay confirmed Monday that the Rams are allowing White and his agent to seek a trade, which would give him an opportunity to contribute elsewhere.

The Rams want to continue with their current setup in the secondary so it doesn’t sound like White will be coming off the bench anytime soon. McVay was emphatic about White’s attitude and approach throughout all of this, crediting him for handling the situation well.

“He’s been such a pro about the way he’s handled obviously a not-ideal situation for him,” McVay said, via the team’s official site. “If you guys saw the way he’s practiced, the way that he’s been a pro in every sense of the word, and approaches some things where, he hasn’t been active the last three weeks. Guy wants an opportunity to be able to compete, and we love him here. We’d like to be able to keep him here, but if that is something that he and his agent want to be able to explore, we’re obviously respectfully understanding of that. And so the answer is yes, we’ve allowed them to be able to talk to some teams to see if that’s a possibility.”

As McVay said, Los Angeles would prefer to keep White as a depth option in case one of the starting cornerbacks gets hurt, but as they often do, the Rams want to do what’s best for the player. It was a similar situation with DeSean Jackson in 2021 when he requested a trade after his playing time diminished.

The Rams shouldn’t expect to get much in return for the veteran cornerback, especially with teams knowing Los Angeles is willing to move on if its best for White. A potential pick-swap or seventh-round pick might be all the Rams get.

Pittsburgh should acquire former All-Pro CB via trade

The Los Angeles Rams are discussing CB Tre’Davious White’s future with the team, and a trade seems likely. Could Pittsburgh acquire him?

While Pittsburgh Steelers fans clamor for General Manager Omar Khan to pull the trigger on acquiring a veteran wide receiver, one interesting trade target could make the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense even more frightening.

The Los Angeles Rams have been linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers in recent days, with rumors of a possible trade for All-Pro WR Cooper Kupp.  However, this trade failed to gain momentum.  There is another All-Pro veteran player on the Rams’ roster, though, who seems to have been given a green light to seek a potential trade.

29-year old Rams’ All-Pro CB Tre’Davious White, drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, has discussed his future with Los Angeles and a trade seems likely.

Khan could potentially add another established and talented veteran to an already great Steelers’ defense.  White would complement the teams needs, as CB depth was an area of concern heading into the 2024 season.

The possible addition of White to a cornerback room that contains Joey Porter Jr., Donte Jackson, Beanie Bishop Jr., and the returning Cameron Sutton is a scary unit for any offense to throw against.

Rams exploring options with CB Tre’Davious White, including possible trade

With Tre’Davious White on the bench, the Rams are looking into possibly trading the veteran cornerback

One of the Rams’ biggest offseason additions was Tre’Davious White, a former All-Pro cornerback with the Bills. However, coming off a torn ACL and Achilles in the last few years, there was some risk in the signing.

White started the first four games of the season but he struggled in coverage and was committing too many penalties. The Rams benched him and have made him a healthy scratch in each of the last three games. Now, they’re looking to move on from him.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Rams and White are discussing the cornerback’s future in Los Angeles and could potentially trade him before the Nov. 5 deadline.

It’s hard to imagine the Rams getting much in return for the veteran cornerback, especially considering he’s been inactive for the last three games. However, even a late Day 3 pick would be better than what the Rams are currently getting out of him.

Bills GM Brandon Beane: ‘We have been all in, all along’

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane joined the Pat McAfee show Wednesday to answer some questions in light of the recent trade for wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Beane made one thing loud and clear. The Bills were never thinking about a rebuild. The trade for Cooper was evidence that the Bills are still very much all in to win the whole thing.

“We are still all in… If Cleveland wasn’t ready to do this we were going to continue to monitor it,” Beane said. “We still got a few weeks before the deadline. If we feel there is something else that we need or we feel there is something else that can get us over the top… we have been all in all along.”

When the Bills didn’t bring back a handful of marquee players this offseason, there were murmurs that it was a “reload” or “rebuild” year for the team. Jordan Poyer, Tre’Davious White, Stefon Diggs, Mitch Morse, Gabe Davis, Micah Hyde… there were a lot of familiar names and trusted leaders who exited the team. But, Beane had a plan all along. It wasn’t a rebuild, it was a transition.

“I know we have lost some names this offseason… some guys who have been captains… this was what I said was an offseason of transition,” Beane said. “The mindset here, as long as Josh Allen is our quarterback, we’re going to try to win this thing and we’re going to do what we can every single year.”

So, sitting at 4-2 with a lead in the AFC East, the team added a legit number-one receiver and has left the door open to upgrade the team further before the trade deadline. These are reassuring words from Beane if you are a Bills fan.

There’s a financial side to the Rams benching Tre’Davious White, too

Tre’Davious White can double his contract value by playing 60% of the Rams’ snaps but that could be difficult after he was benched in Week 5

Tre’Davious White was one of the Rams’ big-name signings this offseason, bringing in the former All-Pro cornerback on a one-year deal after his departure from the Bills. It was always a move that came with some risk due to his injury history and it has not worked out to this point.

In his first four games with the Rams, he allowed nine catches for 151 yards on 13 targets, giving up four touchdowns and a 147.8 passer rating in coverage. To make it even worse, he’s been flagged four times and had another penalty declined, as well.

Sean McVay and Chris Shula saw enough after last week’s loss to the Bears, deciding to bench the veteran cornerback in Week 5 against the Packers. He was a healthy scratch, something McVay called a “coaching decision” after the game.

It’s largely a performance-based decision, but there’s also a financial element to it. As Jason Fitzgerald of Over The Cap pointed out on X, White’s contract is incentive-heavy. He can earn up to $1 million in per-game bonuses and can increase the value of his deal from $4.25 million to $8.5 million if he plays at least 60% of the defensive snaps.

That incentive was likely put in as an injury precaution for the Rams, knowing White has suffered a torn ACL and Achilles in the last few years, but it turns out this is also a safety net for performance. Obviously, White won’t be able to play 60% of the defensive snaps if he’s on the bench and inactive on game days.

The decision to sit White in Week 5 doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to be inactive for the rest of the season, but the Rams were clearly not thrilled with the way he played in the first four games and with Darious Williams back, opportunities could continue to be limited for White.

It was far from perfect from the Rams’ cornerbacks on Sunday but it was unquestionably an upgrade from what they had with White starting on the outside. Williams played well in limited action during his season debut, Witherspoon allowed one long reception and Cobie Durant had his best game yet while playing in the slot more.

Very simply, there may not be room for White to be a full-time player in Los Angeles anymore. That’s bad news for his chances of earning an extra $4.25 million, which could be a factor in this decision by the Rams to make him inactive.

They may not want to play him full-time in what could be a lost season, which would cost them an additional $4.25 million. If he were playing better, sure, there’d be no reason to bench him

Rams snap counts: LA benches two DBs, Blake Corum rises to RB2

Breaking down the Rams’ snap counts from Sunday’s loss to the Packers, which shows a big shakeup on defense

After starting 1-3 and struggling badly against the pass on defense, the Los Angeles Rams thought it was a good time to shake up the secondary. They made several changes to the defensive backfield on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, including the decision to bench Tre’Davious White by making him a healthy scratch for the first time in his career.

Offensively, the Rams mostly kept the status quo. However, Blake Corum did take over as the No. 2 running back behind Kyren Williams. He replaced Ronnie Rivers in that role, playing a season-high 11 snaps in the 24-19 loss.

We broke down the snap counts below, starting with the offense.

Offense

After playing the third-most snaps of the Rams’ receivers last week, Demarcus Robinson played most of the game on Sunday, only missing two snaps. Jordan Whittington was a close second with a 92% snap share, and that was with missing the end of the game due to a shoulder injury. Tutu Atwell was WR3 again, with Tyler Johnson (11 snaps) and Xavier Smith (8 snaps) operating as the reserves.

At running back, Kyren Williams played 86% of the snaps, which is about his average for the year. Corum, not Ronnie Rivers, was his backup, with the rookie playing a season-high 11 snaps. He touched the ball six times on those 11 plays, rushing for 25 yards on five carries and catching an 8-yard screen pass.

Colby Parkinson remains the No. 1 tight end, playing 79% of the snaps. Hunter Long played 22% and Davis Allen played 4%, so the Rams did mix in some 12 personnel again on Sunday.

All five starting linemen played the entire game again, which is a good sign for their continuity.

Defense

The defense is where the biggest changes were made by the coaching staff, specifically in the secondary. White was benched after four games of being a starter, sitting this game out as a healthy scratch. In his place, the Rams gave Ahkello Witherspoon a prominent role (81%) and Darious Williams played 49% of the snaps in his season debut. Cobie Durant was a major factor in this game, playing all but three snaps.

Josh Wallace was also given a big opportunity as an undrafted rookie, playing 31 snaps, mostly as the nickel corner in the “star” role. That allowed Quentin Lake to be a more traditional safety, once again playing every snap on defense alongside Kamren Curl.

You’ll notice Kamren Kinchens’ name is missing from the list above and that’s because he was the other defensive back benched by Chris Shula. The rookie had been struggling in place of John Johnson III, so the Rams took him out of the lineup and gave him zero defensive snaps. That opened the door for Jaylen McCollough to play more, getting on the field for 15 snaps, coming up with a key pick-six on one of those plays.

At inside linebacker, it was still Troy Reeder and Christian Rozeboom manning the middle, but Reeder played just 86% of the snaps despite being the signal caller with the green dot. Rozeboom played 71% of the game as the No. 2 linebacker.

Byron Young continues to be the top option at edge rusher, playing 80% of the snaps. Jared Verse and Michael Hoecht were almost an even split, with Verse playing 69% and Hoecht plating 64%. They were the only three edge rushers again.

Kobie Turner played 81% of the snaps as the top defensive lineman, with Braden Fiske being the next-closest player at 51%. Bobby Brown, Neville Gallimore and Tyler Davis continue to rotate along the front, with Jonah Williams playing one snap in his debut with the team.

Sean McVay: Rams will ‘evaluate everything,’ regardless of position

The Rams shook up the secondary on Sunday and changes could be coming at other positions, too

When you’re 1-4, changes often need to be made. The Los Angeles Rams started to shake things up on Sunday in their game against the Green Bay Packers, making adjustments to the secondary after giving up way too many yards through the air in the first four weeks.

Tre’Davious White was benched, Darious Williams and Ahkello Witherspoon were given starting roles and Quentin Lake was moved from the slot to a more traditional safety role, opening the door for Josh Wallace to cover the slot.

The results were encouraging but still not significant enough to make anyone feel comfortable with the state of the defense and further changes could be coming – on both sides of the ball.

Sean McVay was asked about whether the Rams will consider other adjustments following the Week 6 bye and he indicated that everything is on the table.

“We’ll evaluate everything,” he said. “That was the result of Josh Wallace playing some star today. That enabled Quentin Lake to be able to play safety almost exclusively with the exception of a couple things. We’ll observe everything. When you’re in these situations, we have to make sure we’re doing a good job of looking at the totality of everything, regardless of position, and make sure we’re doing a great job of trying to make sure we’re playing as good of football as we can with the remainder of the season.”

One area the Rams could look to make adjustments is at linebacker. Troy Reeder and Christian Rozeboom have been at the center (literally) of the Rams’ struggles against the run and they’ve been equally bad in coverage.

Whether it’s missed tackles, bad angles or biting on play action, Reeder and Rozeboom haven’t looked like NFL-level starters thus far. It might be time to give Jake Hummel and Omar Speights a look.

McVay and his staff will have plenty of time to look at areas of improvement thanks to the Week 6 bye, needing to get things back on track quickly after starting 1-4 to this point.

Sean McVay explains decision to bench former All-Pro CB Tre’Davious White vs. Packers

Sean McVay explains why the Rams benched Tre’Davious White on Sunday, making him a healthy scratch against the Packers

Tre’Davious White has been in the NFL since 2017 but Sunday marked the first time he was a healthy scratch. The Rams shockingly benched White against the Green Bay Packers, making him one of their inactives for Week 5.

White, a two-time Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro from his time with the Bills, struggled badly in the first four weeks of the season and now faces an uncertain future in Los Angeles heading into the bye.

After the Rams’ 24-19 loss to the Packers, Sean McVay explained the decision to bench White and make him unavailable for the game, saying it was partly because of the depth at cornerback and partly because of special teams.

“It was a coaching decision,” McVay said. “He’s been a pro in every sense of the word but you get Darious back, we felt like we were going to have a larger role for Ahkello and so there are some special teams considerations that go into it, so that was what resulted in him being inactive.”

White has been a weak link in a bad Rams secondary this season, committing four penalties and allowing multiple touchdowns in coverage. He’s been a frequent target for opposing quarterbacks and he simply hasn’t risen to the occasion.

His two defensive penalties last week, including a pass interference that set up the Bears at the 1-yard line, might’ve been the last straw.

In his place, Ahkello Witherspoon and Darious Williams played better, helping hold Jordan Love to 224 yards passing.
