Aledo continued its run of dominance with a 52-14 victory over College Station. Allen had four tackles and a pass breakup in the win.

Oklahoma spurned as four-star running back Dylan Edwards chooses Big 12 foe Kansas State

After leading the race at one point for his services, the Sooners ultimately miss out on the commitment of four-star Dylan Edwards.

Oklahoma has had a rough go of it with some of their targets of late,Ā  this time getting a little more bad news with Dylan Edwards’ commitment to Kansas State. While it’s important to note that the Sooners can’t ultimately sign everyone, missing out on some still stings.

Edwards joins a list of Wilkin Formby, Tyler Turner, and Reid Mikeska as players Oklahoma was targeting and missed out on in the last few days.

The four-star running back was the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Kansas in 2021. He totaledĀ 3,214 all-purpose yards and 40 total touchdowns while averaging almost 13 yards a carry last year. The Sooners offered Edwards on January 29th and shortly after receiving the offer told Kansas City Star reporter Kellis Robinett that “Oklahoma has been a dream of mine.”

While that may have been true somewhere along the way, there was a disconnect between both sides as the Sooners didn’t land Edwards who opted to stay in-state and play for the Kansas State. With the Wildcats he will most likely draw comparisons to current running back Deuce Vaughn and KSU legend Darren Sproles. Edwards, like Sproles and Vaughn, is a small, shifty, dynamic, and fast running back.

Oklahoma landed multiple predictions to land Edwards in the days and weeks following the initial offer and continued to apply pressure. They made the top 10 list for Edwards along with Kansas State, Nebraska, Washington, Jackson State, Oregon and a few others. Ultimately, after his official visit on June 3rd for the Champ U BBQ, and a few weeks to deliberate the in-state school won out.

The Sooners have four-star Kalib Hicks and will be looking to fill one more spot at running back for this 2023 class. As it stands with names like Tre Wisner and Dylan Edwards out the picture, Daylan Smothers becomes one of the priority targets for the Sooners.

Smothers has taken his official to Oklahoma and enjoyed himself quite a bit. A Florida State official is up next for him but the Sooners are closer in this race than they were with Edwards, giving them a much better shot here to land the four-star dynamo from North Carolina.

Five-star can’t miss prospect Richard Young is very much a take if he decides to be a Sooner. While that is a long-shot, the Sooners should continue to hang around and recruit him. Crazier things have happened like Louisville landing five-star running back Reuben Owens this week.

The state of Kansas will continue to be a place the Sooners attack on the recruiting trail as head coach Brent Venables played and coached at Kansas State himself and has maintained excellent relationships throughout the state.

Oklahoma Sooners summer recruiting primer for the 2023 recruiting cycle

With the summer on the horizon, we took a look at the names to know as the Sooners look to make a push on the recruiting front for 2023.

Brent Venables and Co. are weeks removed from their first spring as a staff together. It was a successful one with no notable injuries and some standout performances across the board. All told, things went as well as they could’ve hoped considering the positive reviews from the media and recruits in attendance.

The spring game served as an eye-opener for recruits and gave the Oklahoma Sooners some significant momentum to ride as they head into the most crucial time of the year for recruiting. With spring ball done and the team going home to recharge before fall camp, the staff will be all in on recruiting. With that in mind, it’s time to map out the targets to watch as the 2023 class begins to materialize this summer.

Sooners make Top 10 for 2023 four-star running back Dylan Edwards

Oklahoma makes the top 10 list for explosive and shifty 2023 four-star running back Dylan Edwards from Kansas.

Official visit season is underway for the 2023 class in the world of college football recruiting. With that we’ll begin to see recruits narrow their focus a bit to fit their official visit list. Four-star running back Dylan Edwards joined in on the fun and dropped his list of the top 10 schools he’ll be focused on going forward.

Oklahoma makes the cut along with Jackson State, led by NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, Kansas State, Washington, Wisconsin, Oregon, Nebraska, Missouri, Kentucky, and Kansas. The Kansas provide proximity to his hometown of Derby, while Oklahoma, Oregon, and Wisconsin represent the biggest brands on the list. Jackson State made the cut and reportedly has a great relationship with Edwards and his family as well. Deion Sanders has made a big impact on the recruiting scene since becoming the head coach of the HBCU school.

Edwards took the time to break down his reasoning for every school in an interview with 247Sports. He said this about the Sooners:

ā€œBoomer Sooner. That was my dream school since I was little. I loved the spring game and every time I was there. I canā€™t wait to be back on my OV. I just talked to Coach [DeMarco] Murray, and weā€™re going to set it up.” via Parker Thune, OUInsider at 247Sports.

That’s a pretty solid endorsement that the Sooners are very much in the thick of this race. The Sooners look poised for an official visit and would breathe a little easier if they could land the shifty and explosive running back from out of Kansas. The Sooners currently have no running backs committed for 2023, and after missing out on Tre Wisner to their Red River rivals, they need this commitment to land in their favor.

The Sooners seemingly will not have to wait long either for Edwards’ decision ultimately, as he plans to spend the entire month of June on his officials before deciding shortly after.

Sooners RB target Tre Wisner surprises everyone with commitment to the Texas Longhorns

After many months of speculation that the Oklahoma Sooners were the favorites to land him, running back Tre Wisner picks Texas.

Oklahoma and Texas both had busy Saturday afternoons as the rival programs put on their spring games. While a lot of focus was on what happened on the field, there were someĀ fireworks after the game as Texas landed a commitment from one of the Sooners’ priority targets, running back Tre Wisner.

To say Wisner’s commitment is a shock to accurate. For months, it seemed as if the Sooners were comfortably in the driver seat with even Texas recruiting insiders, like On3’s Hudson Standish, predicting Wisner would land with the Sooners.

Wisnerā€™s top 8 schools, released in March, included Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Florida State, and Arkansas among others. However, after multiple unofficial visits to Norman and many quotables that illustrated how comfortable he felt with Oklahoma running back coach DeMarco Murray, many in the industry considered Wisner’s recruitment to heavilyĀ leaning Oklahoma. A commitment appeared only a formality at that point.

With Wisner now a Longhorn, it means running back prospects, like three-star Dylan Edwards, four-star Daylan Smothers, and five-star Richard Young,Ā become much more important as the Sooners look to add backs to their 2023 recruiting class.

Of the names listed above only Edwards has a crystal ball in favor of Oklahoma.

With such. long way to go between now and signing day, it’s hard to imagine this recruitment is over but as it looks right now this round of Red River recruiting battles goes to the Texas Longhorns.

Longhorns land commitment from four-star running back

#SarkAfterDark. Tashard Choice and Steve Sarkisian pick up a talented back in the 2023 class.

It was a huge night for Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns as they closed out the spring session with the annual Orange-White spring game. Not only did they see the likes of Quinn Ewers, Isaiah Neyor, and Roschon Johnson put on a show, but the night ended with two commitments.

The first one came from four-star running back Tre Wisner, who tweeted the news on Saturday night. The DeSoto product was being pursued by the likes of Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, Arkansas, and Baylor. It was running back coach Tashard Choice and the Horns that ultimately won out. Wisner became the fourth overall commit to the 2022 class and the first on offense.

They later added another offensive player following the spring game. Wisner will join a room that likely loses Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson following the season. But they will still have plenty of talent in Austin at running back.

As spring football comes to a close and focus shifts to recruiting and the summer conditioning programs, the Horns closed it out with a bang.

Oklahoma Sooners receive 5 new Crystal Ball predictions from OUInsider Parker Thune

The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off a massive recruiting weekend and that work is already paying dividends.

While the most recent recruiting weekend looks like it was a resounding success, prospects from previous recruiting weekends with the Oklahoma Sooners have taken time to digest their time in Norman. For some, the time spent analyzing where the Sooners fall in their recruitment has led some of college football’s biggest recruiting insiders to believe there’s significant momentum for Oklahoma in regards to some of these prospects.

The momentum is so real that recruiting analyst Parker Thune of OUInsider at 247Sports was confident enough to issue Crystal Ball predictions for several Oklahoma Sooners’ targets. We’ve taken the liberty of chronicling those below for your viewing pleasure:

Texas among top schools for four-star RB Tre Wisner

Wisner is a top-10 running back in the country for the 2023 cycle.

Four-star running back Tre Wisner announced the top eight schools left in his recruitment this week. Continue reading “Texas among top schools for four-star RB Tre Wisner”

Oklahoma among top-8 schools for 2023 4-star running back Tre Wisner

Trimming his list of schools, 2023 four-star running back Tre Wisner included Oklahoma in his top 8.

The Oklahoma Sooners have done a great job on the recruiting trail in the 2023 cycle. The impression they’ve left has resonated with recruits and their families during the recruiting weekends they’ve held. Following last weekend’s even in Norman, the Sooners began to trend in the right direction for several players, receiving projections from 247Sports and On3 recruiting analysts for some of the nation’s best athletes.

Earlier this week, On3 Texas recruiting analyst Hudson Standish predicted Wisner would land with the Oklahoma Sooners. The good news kept rolling in yesterday as four-star running back Tre Wisner included Oklahoma in his top-8 schools.

With predictions trending the Oklahoma Sooners way, they look to be closing in on a commitment from Wisner. After hosting the talented running back, Oklahoma makes the cut along with Oklahoma State, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Florida State, and USC.

Wisner is a four-star player in the 247Sports Composite rankings and On3’s Consensus rankings.

Wisner is a shifty player who uses feints to set up his blocks in the running game. He does a great job of getting defenders to commit to a hole before bouncing it where the play was designed to go. Wisner can make people miss at every level and has the breakaway speed to make every touch a potential touchdown.

Wisner displays natural hands as a pass-catcher and does an excellent job of turning the ball upfield after the catch. His speed creates opportunities for him down the field, and he has the potential to be a big-play threat in the passing game.

With Jovante Barnes and Gavin Sawchuk in the fold, Wisner’s versatility will allow him to make an impact in a variety of ways, even if he isn’t the primary back early on. He’ll be able to help the Sooners on special teams and as a third-down running back with his pass-catching prowess.
