The Twins’ plan to intentionally walk Max Muncy backfired in the worst way

These kinds of strategies are usually executed A LOT better than this.

In a nailbiter extra innings showdown Monday night, it looked like the Minnesota Twins would continue pushing the Los Angeles Dodgers.

After already trading shot for shot in an 8-8 barnburner, the Twins were interested in extending this matchup by intentionally walking Max Muncy. Such a gambit loaded the bases but ultimately put Minnesota in a potential position to send this battle to the 13th inning with two outs.

Unfortunately, Minnesota pitcher Jorge Lopez couldn’t fulfill the second half of his bargain on the very next batter. Rather than get a harmless ball into play, he accidentally walked Trayce Thompson, sending the automatic game-winning 9-8 run by Chris Taylor over the plate.

Truly, it was the worst of outcomes after intentionally walking someone.

Look. An intentional walk to try and get the bases loaded is risky in itself. If you’re going to do it, my advice would be not to walk the next batter. For a May regular season game, this is a blunder Lopez and the Twins won’t live down.

Dodgers’ Trayce Thompson quirkily mashed 3 HRs with an identical exit velocity of 107.5 miles per hour

What a weird stat about a magical night.

It was Opening Weekend in baseball, so the Los Angeles Dodgers had to do one thing: open up the floodgates of dingers. And on Saturday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks, it was Trayce Thompson who led the show. That also meant L.A.’s new LED lights show got a great workout.

The Dodgers mashed four home runs against the Diamondbacks. Three (3!) came off of Thompson’s bat, who, in turn, accumulated eight RBIs in a 10-1 win.

Talk about a one-man wrecking crew.

You could tell it was Thompson’s night from the jump when he destroyed a first-inning grand slam with an exit velocity of 107.5 miles per hour. This was not a man who would be denied on this weekend evening:

Then, in the bottom of the fifth, with two guys already on, Thompson blasted a three-run ball into the stands again. And yes, it also had a 107.5 mile-per-hour exit velocity.

To close the night, with the Dodgers’ victory virtually assured, Thompson threw in a solo home run. The first three-homer game of the year belongs to one Mr. Thompson.

Oh, sorry, I buried the lede on that one, didn’t I? Thompson’s third dinger also had a 107.5 mile-per-hour exit velocity, giving him an identical exit velocity on all three home runs. What a quirky but fun stat:

What a magical (and kind of weird?) night for Thompson and the Dodgers.

Stephen Curry filmed brother of Klay Thompson getting a hit for the Dodgers and it was awesome

Stephen Curry is a fan of Klay Thompson AND Trayce Thompson.

After winning yet another NBA championship, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has spent his offseason watching lots of baseball.

The reigning NBA Finals MVP recently took some swings before the A’s played the Astros last month, and last night, he was back in an MLB park again.

Even though Curry’s cuts didn’t look great during batting practice, he got some opportunities to study the best in the business Wednesday night in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers have the highest winning percentage in baseball this season, and Curry saw them get yet another victory.

He was able to watch from the front row, too, which means he had a particularly good view when Trayce Thompson came to the plate:

Trayce, the younger brother of Curry teammate Klay Thompson, smacked a double to left field. Curry, meanwhile, recorded some cell phone footage of the hit as he cheered for the Dodgers outfielder.

Klay was recently asked what it was like to watch his brother play in the MLB, and his quote was awesome (via People.com):

“It’s the most fun to be a spectator and drink a bunch of beers and eat nachos. And to cheer your brother on? I feel like a kid again,” Klay says. “It’s the best.”

Hopefully, Curry posts the video of his angle of Trayce’s hit so we can see what kind of footage he got. But either way, it was awesome to watch him support his teammate’s brother.

Watch: Warriors’ Klay Thompson reacts to brother Trayce’s clutch RBI double in Dodgers vs. Giants

After Dodgers outfielder Trayce Thompson drilled a clutch RBI double against the Giants, Klay Thompson cheered on his brother at Dodgers Stadium.

On Sunday, Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson was in attendance at Dodgers Stadium to watch his brother. The five-time NBA All-Star’s brother Trayce Thompson plays outfield for the National League-leading Los Angeles Dodgers.

Over the weekend, the Dodgers hosted their rivals, the San Francisco Giants for a series in Hollywood. While watching his brother face the Warriors’ Bay Area neighbors, Thompson enjoyed the game in signature fashion.

With the game knotted at 4-4, the Dodgers took the lead in the seventh inning on a Jake Lamb ground-rule double. With the Dodgers rallying, Thompson stepped to the dish. The 31-year-old outfielder drilled a deep double to the wall to give the Dodgers a controlling 7-4 lead.

Off the crack of Thompson’s bat, Klay excitingly cheered on his brother from the front row of Dodgers Stadium.

Klay Thompson was adorably hyped for brother Trayce’s RBI during Dodgers rally

The brotherly love on display here from Klay Thompson is too sweet.

Klay Thompson is spending his summer as a NBA champion cheering on his brother Trayce Thompson in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ quest to become World Series winners.

On Sunday, the Dodgers were hosting the San Francisco Giants post All-Star break. With the score tied 4-4 headed into the bottom of the seventh, the Dodgers started to pull away with some key hits. Trayce Thompson continued the deluge of runs with a double that split the gap in right, making the score 7-4 for the home team.

And who was cheering for Trayce behind the Giants dugout? None other than Klay Thompson, who was the most hype for his brother after his big hit.

Seriously, look how adorably pumped Klay was!

That’s some brotherly love right there.

Warriors’ Klay Thompson reacts to brother Trayce’s first home run with Chicago Cubs

After his brother Trayce hit his first home run with the Chicago Cubs, Klay Thompson chimed in with a reaction on Twitter.

Although Sundays have been taken over by football with the start of the new NFL season, Klay Thompson was tuned in to the baseball diamond. On Sunday, Thompson’s brother Trayce was in action for the Chicago Cubs.

For the first time since 2018, Thompson has been called up to the big leagues. On Tuesday, the younger Thompson joined the Cubs from their Triple-A affiliate in Iowa.

During Chicago’s contest on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers, Thompson went yard for the first time with his new club. In the fifth inning, Thompson blasted a shot off Eric Laurer to give the Cubs a 1-0 advantage.

Following his brother’s home run, the Golden State Warriors shooting guard chimed in with a reaction on Twitter.

Thompson’s long ball helped push the Cubs to a 6-4 victory over the Brewers. The 30-year-old outfielder went 1-3 with an RBI and a walk.

Thompson will be back on the diamond on Monday against the Minnesota Twins at Wrigley Field.
