The 2024 football season won’t be an easy one, but there is reasons to be excited about it. The countdown is now on to game one, which is on August 31st against Southern Miss. That game is, as of Friday, 99 days away.
This will the be the first of a series of articles, looking at the current Wildcats roster, as we count number by number, making our way from 99 down to 0. These articles will also look at some of the history of some numbers.
The current number 99 on the roster is defensive tackle Kendrick Gilbert. The 6’5″, 292 lineman was a three-star member of the 2023 recruiting class per 247sports, and was even higher on some services.
Gilbert played in two games last year, but wound up red-shirting. Kentucky has some experience and talent on the roster, so Gilbert isn’t likely to start, but his size and talent might get him some playing time this year. He could develop into a starter, though, sooner rather than later.
