Dorka Juhasz finds new home at UConn after leaving Ohio State

After completing her degree at Ohio State, Dorka Juhasz will take advantage of the NCAA’s extra year of eligibility by playing for UConn.

We told you a couple of weeks ago that Ohio State women’s basketball star Dorka Juhasz entered the transfer portal. The native Hungarian finished her degree and with the NCAA granting an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19, Juhasz decided to play one more season with a fresh start.

We found out today where the 6-feet, 4-inch forward will play her final year of college basketball and it’s a big one. Juhasz announced that she will be joining Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies via her personal Twitter account.

UConn is already one of the favorites to win the national championship next year with national player of the year, Paige Buekers, back for another run. The Huskies made it to the women’s Final Four this past season before falling to the Arizona Wildcats in the national semifinal.

The addition of Juhasz will only make UConn that much more of a favorite in 2022 to win it all and add to Auriemma’s record 11 national titles.

Texas linked to a couple of Texas Tech players in the transfer portal

A pair Red Raiders in the transfer portal could find their way into joining Chris Beard at Texas.

After Chris Beard joined the Texas Longhorns basketball program, we all knew this meant what would look like a complete roster overhaul for both Texas and Texas Tech.

Royce Hamm and Donovan Williams both are on their way to UNLV, Kai Jones declared for the upcoming NBA Draft and there are still questions around many other players on the roster.

Texas Tech is also seeing roster unloading as Terrance Shannon is entering the NBA Draft and Mac McClung has since followed, while also entering the transfer portal.

Now it looks like another pair of Red Raiders are looking for a new home and Texas is in contention to land either or both.

Guards Micah Peavy and Kyler Edwards have both entered with transfer portal, with the Longhorns reaching out to both.

Career Stats

Kyler Edwards – 8.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists per game. 43.1% FG, 38.4% from three

Micah Peavy – 5.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists per game. 45.9% FG

At this point, both players are still exploring the transfer portal and it’s all speculation. However, considering Peavy came to Texas Tech almost solely to play with Beard and that Edwards pulled his name out and re-entered it into the transfer portal in the time it took for Chris Beard’s staff to get built, it makes sense.

Both Peavy and Edwards know Beard, his system, and style. Don’t be surprised if he’s able to land both former Red Raiders before next season.

This former Florida sharpshooter is headed to Louisville via the transfer portal

Florida’s former three-point specialist left the program for a better opportunity elsewhere, and he’s found his home with the Cardinals.

The Gators men’s basketball team bid farewell to a number of players following the conclusion of the NCAA tournament, and Saturday night, one of those players has found a new home for next season. Reporting indicates that shooting guard Noah Locke, a three-year starter at Florida, has committed to play for the Louisville Cardinals next season.

Locke, a four-star recruit who found immediate success with the Gators, hit the transfer portal on March 25 and was instantly one of the top targets available. A number of high major clubs reached out to him within the first few days after he opened his recruiting availability.

Unlike many players who transfer, he’s a known quantity who is without question capable of performing at the high major level. The Gators leaned heavily on Locke during their 2020-2021 run, mainly relying on him for designed catch-and-shoot plays and as a pick and roll ball handler. Averaging 10.6 points per game and hitting 40.4% of three-point shots, he will rightly be expected to play at a similar level for the Cardinals next season if they use him in a similar role.

fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));

Because he was not expected to leave the program, naturally, there was speculation as to the reason why Locke entered the portal. Of course, it’d be tough to know for sure unless we heard it from his mouth. However, one hypothesis is that he wanted to be used as a point guard, which is not a role White has been willing to put him in during his career with the Gators.

At the end of the day, Locke is a nice piece to have in the program. He raises the floor of the team considerably, which is part of what helped keep the Gators afloat when the world seemed to be crashing down around their ears. However, he doesn’t do much to raise the ceiling of the team – especially if he’s been promised a leading role in the Cards’ offense.

Locke joins grad transfer Jarrod West in the Louisville backcourt. Pursued by a number of high major teams, West is a defensive terror and was a prolific scorer in the Conference USA East. A much larger guard with a proven offensive billing, Locke is the yin to West’s yang and the pair will be a force to be reckoned with in the ACC.

Former Penn State basketball player announces his transfer decision

After sitting in the NCAA transfer portal for a few months, former Nittany Lion Patrick Kelly knows where he will be continuing his career.

With no shortage of Penn State basketball players in the transfer portal, it seems transfer news could happen at almost any moment. On Saturday, we got one of those moments once again as former Nittany Lions forward Patrick Kelly made his transfer decision official.

In a post on his Twitter account, Kelly announced he will be continuing his college basketball career with the Fordham Rams.

After entering the NCAA transfer portal in January, in the midst of the college basketball regular season, it was always expected Kelly would be moving on from the Penn State program entirely. A new head coach in Micah Shrewsberry wasn’t going to change that sequence of events.

Kelly is the latest player from Penn State to decide to leave for another school after entering the transfer portal since the conclusion of the regular season. Jamari Wheeler previously opted to transfer to Ohio State and Myreon Jones recently made his transfer decision with the Florida Gators. Trent Buttrick will make his way up to the UMass Minutemen.

Texas guard Donovan Williams announces transfer to UNLV

Texas Longhorns guard Donovan Williams announces transfer to UNLV.

In the wake of Royce Hamm announcing his decision to transfer to UNLV, a former teammate will join him. Sophomore guard Donovan Williams announced his intention to also join the UNLV program.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard entered the transfer portal on March 23. Despite the arrival of new head coach Chris Beard, Williams is going to seek an opportunity to play elsewhere.

The announcement first came from Jeff Goodman of Stadium.

Williams played in rotation for the Horns during the 2020-21 season, averaging 3.3 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. He suffered a knee injury in March 2020, ending his season before the COVID-19 pause.

With the possibility of any of the starting guards from this past season (Courtney Ramey, Andrew Jones and Matt Coleman III) returning, as well as a new coaching staff, it made sense Williams felt like the odd man out.

As a recruit, Williams was the No. 79 player and No. 11 shooting guard on the 247Sports composite. Coming out of Missouri City, Texas, he was the No. 9 player from the state in the 2019 recruiting class.

He’ll join a struggling UNLV program looking to revive his career in a positive manner.

Gators a winner so far in the college basketball transfer portal

With three high-profile additions to replace the outgoing talent, the Florida Gators should have a solid starting five next season.

At the conclusion of the 2020-21 season, things were looking grim for Florida. A total of six players left the program, with Scottie Lewis and Tre Mann declaring for the draft with agents and Noah Locke, Omar Payne, Ques Glover and Osayi Osifo entering the transfer portal. That number could become seven if Colin Castleton, who declared for the draft without an agent, decides to remain in the draft.

That’s a stunning amount of turnover for any time, but it’s almost unheard of for one coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance with no change at the head coach position. The Gators looked to be in dire straits with serious questions about who would even play next year.

(function (d, s, n) {
var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
js = d.createElement(s);
js.className = n;
js.src = “//player.ex.co/player/e5869bc6-faf6-4b7a-8c06-b5610c96a8fe”;
fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));

The team was always going to be very aggressive on the transfer market; it had to be just to fill its roster. But it would’ve been hard to predict the Gators would be so successful. So far, they’ve landed three top transfers: Penn State guard Myreon Jones, Missouri-Kansas City guard Brandon McKissic and Boston College forward C.J. Felder.

With this haul, UF finds itself squarely in the “winners” category in CBS Sports’ breakdown of the winners and losers of the transfer portal.

Sharpshooter Noah Locke and role players Omar Payne and Ques Glover are in the portal as departures for Florida, but the Gators appear to have upgraded with what’s coming in. Penn State guard Myreon Jones is the headliner so far after averaging 15.3 points on 39.5% 3-point shooting for the Nittany Lions this season. Kansas City transfer guard Brandon McKissic is also a good get for coach Mike White after he averaged 17.2 points on 50.8% shooting in his fourth college season. Boston College forward CJ Felder should more than atone for Payne’s departure after he averaged 9.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 19 games for the Eagles this season.

Florida is going to look a lot different next season, but they reload with what should be a talented roster once again. The Gators will hope this is the formula for finally getting past the first weekend of the tournament for the first time since 2017.

Former Texas offensive lineman Willie Tyler transfers to Syracuse

Offensive lineman Willie Tyler entered the transfer portal on Jan. 19. On Thursday, he announced he would be transferring to Syracuse.

So far, 13 players have entered the transfer portal from last season’s roster. Jalen Green, Keaontay Ingram, and Ja’Quinden Jackson are among some of the biggest names, leaving for other Power Five programs. On Thursday, another former Texas player announced his commitment to an ACC program.

Offensive lineman Willie Tyler entered the transfer portal on Jan. 19 after being expected to compete for a backup role at a guard position. On Thursday, he announced he would be heading to Syracuse to play for Dino Barbers.

Tyler did not play in 2019 or 2020, redshirting after transferring from Iowa Western Community College and then opting out due to COVID-19 concerns.

Here is the statement Tyler released on his Twitter:

First off, I want to starting off by saying thank you to God! Also, thank you to Herman, Hand, and Jake Langi for believing in me and giving me an opportunity here! To all of my brothers at UT it will always be all love! I’m thankful for y’all the most for bringing me in like family from day 1. I’ll meet y’all at the top!

Forver grafteful, 55

Tyler will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Orange. They allowed 38 sacks last season, ranking No. 118 in the country. Syracuse’s offensive line needed an overhaul and Tyler will bring depth and the very least.

Ohio State offensive lineman Max Wray has entered the transfer portal

According to multiple reports, Ohio State offensive lineman Max Wray has entered the transfer portal.

According to multiple reports, Ohio State offensive lineman Max Wray has entered the transfer portal.

Wray is entering his fourth year with the Buckeyes but still has three seasons of eligibility left because of the extra year afforded to athletes because of the COVID-19 pandemic and because he redshirted his first season. Wray has always pushed for playing time in Columbus, but has been just a step behind in the rotation. At 6-foot, 7-inches, and 308-pounds, Wray has the size to make a difference immediately at another program.

Wray is a former four-star prospect out of Franklin, Tennessee, and committed to Ohio State over the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, and Clemson.

We’ll keep an eye on this as further actions develop. OSU has been more or less removed from any significant transfer portal news this season, but these can always sneak up, especially during the offseason.
