Every Michigan State football player remaining in the NFL playoffs

Check out which Spartans are still around in the NFL playoffs

The NFL playoffs have officially reached conference championship weekend, where four teams will battle it out to take part in the Super Bowl. Those four teams include the Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Cheifs, San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams.

Michigan State was one of a handful of schools that had double-digit players in the NFL playoffs with 14. That list is down to 5, but those Spartans will be fighting to get to the Super Bowl.

You can see what Spartans are going to be playing in the conference championships this weekend below:

Bengals lose CB Trae Waynes before game vs. Chiefs

Trae Waynes has played in four games since joining the Bengals.

Trae Waynes won’t suit up for the Cincinnati Bengals against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Friday, the team announced Waynes and wideout Trenton Irwin got moved to the reserve/COVID-19 list.

While Eli Apple is the start over Waynes while he gets his feet back under him, it’s still a notable blow to depth as the Bengals defense gets ready to tackle Patrick Mahomes.

Waynes has appeared in just four games this season. He missed all of last year with an injury after signing a three-year deal worth $42 million in free agency.

Besides this placing obvious strain on the cornerback room on Sunday with the AFC North at stake, this looks like more affirmation the Bengals will opt out of Waynes’ final year this upcoming offseason.

Bengals make roster moves with Trae Waynes, others before game vs. Broncos

Some key roster moves for the Bengals before Week 15.

As expected, the Cincinnati Bengals put out some major roster moves before the team’s Week 15 game against the Denver Broncos.

The Bengals activated cornerback Trae Waynes from injured reserve, getting the big-money acquisition from two offseasons ago back right as the team desperately needs some help at the position.

Cincinnati also activated rookie lineman D’Ante Smith. He won’t start at right tackle with Riley Reiff lost for the season, but he’ll be the backup behind Fred Johnson.

Elsewhere, the Bengals elevated the following players from the practice squad:

  • LB Austin Calitro
  • WR Trent Taylor
  • LB Keandre Jones

The Bengals need help at linebacker with Logan Wilson still out and Markus Bailey hurting. Taylor will likely return punts with Darius Phillips on IR.

With Phillips out, Chidobe Awuzie stuck on the reserve/COVID-19 list and Vernon Hargreaves also hurting, it’s a key moment for Waynes to get back. That would also explain why the team hosted three cornerbacks on tryouts, signing one to the practice squad.

Trae Waynes cleared to practice, could return for Week 14 vs. 49ers

Could the team’s top CB return?

[mm-video type=video id=01fp61zdzsq2tvvabdea playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fp61zdzsq2tvvabdea/01fp61zdzsq2tvvabdea-8020875bdbb9cd666c33fdb94262c0cf.jpg]

The Cincinnati Bengals could have top cornerback Trae Waynes back on the field for Week 14 against the San Francisco 49ers after clearing him for a return to practice this week.

Waynes, previously on injured reserve while working through a hamstring injury, is back and has a shot at playing.

Zac Taylor talked about the situation, as captured by Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic:

“Trae feels good. He’s ready to practice. He’s ready to go. Being on the rehab field is one thing … if we feel confident enough in what we see and he feels confident enough there’s a great chance he’ll be ready to go.”

Waynes, on the noteworthy three-year deal worth $42 million in free agency, missed all of last season and has only appeared in two games this year.

His possible return would be timely, if nothing else, as other top corner Chidobe Awuzie is working his way back from a non-serious foot injury suffered during last week’s loss to the Chargers.

In other IR-related news, the team also activated offensive lineman D’Ante Smith, clearing the way for him to start practicing again, too.

Former Vikings CB Trae Waynes can’t catch a break in Cincinnati

CB Trae Waynes, now with the Bengals, continues to face setbacks in Cincinnati.

For Vikings fans, it may be easy to get schadenfreude when a former Minnesota player struggles to meet expectations with a different NFL team.

But with Trae Waynes at this point, Minnesota fans should probably start to feel bad. The Bengals placed Waynes Reserve/Injured list, marking yet another setback during his stint in Cincinnati.

The former Vikings cornerback signed with the Bengals in the offseason of 2020, doing so on a three-year deal worth $42 million with $15 million guaranteed, per Over The Cap.

Despite the large contract, Waynes has played in just two games in his two seasons with the Bengals. Based on his trip to the IR, he has a ways to go before he can get back on the field for the Bengals.

In the offseason of 2020, Minnesota was likely too strapped for cash to make a move for Waynes. The Vikings let some notable veterans walk that year, like Xavier Rhodes and Linval Joseph, both of whom found success with their new teams. Waynes, however, has not made a massive impact with the Bengals just yet. Hopefully for Cincinnati fans, he can get healthy and back on the field.

Cincinnati Bengals send Trae Waynes to injured reserve

Waynes again suffered a hamstring injury.

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Trae Waynes will miss at least the next three games after the team placed him on injured reserve.

Waynes suffered a hamstring injury on the last non-field-goal play of overtime during a loss to the Green Bay Packers over the weekend. Tuesday, Cincinnati announced his shift to injured reserve.

In addition to the Waynes move, the Bengals cut rookie punter Drue Chrisman from the practice squad and added the following players to it:

  • CB Holton Hill
  • HB Elijah Holyfield

Waynes has appeared in just two games for the Bengals since signing a three-year deal worth $42 million in free agency last offseason. A pec injury cost him all of his first year with the team and he’s been dealing with this hamstring issue since late in training camp.

Given the ruleset, Waynes is eligible to return for Week 9 against Cleveland at the earliest.

Trae Waynes pops up on Bengals injury report again

Trae Waynes is back on the injury report for the Bengals.

[mm-video type=video id=01fhb7wt0a5q9n8pe8hk playlist_id=01eqbw0bft20de1r4d player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fhb7wt0a5q9n8pe8hk/01fhb7wt0a5q9n8pe8hk-1ca6be83cd9a793e9a62ad27dff72fbf.jpg]

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Trae Waynes finally made his debut with the team last week during a big win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

That debut came after missing all of his first season with the team, then suffering a leg issue in camp that kept him out of the first three games of this year.

Now Waynes is on the injury report again.

Per the Thursday report, Waynes was “limited” with a hamstring injury. That could be nothing — or a big indication of what’s to come. If Waynes can’t go, a still-recovering Chidobe Awuzie, Mike Hilton and backups like Eli Apple would have to step up big against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

Waynes is one of many big names to now watch on the Friday injury report. Joe Mixon and Trey Hopkins just missed their second day in a row, meaning the team could also be down its starting running back and center, respectively.

Trevor Lawrence’s 52-yard pass to Laviska Shenault Jr. was historically awesome

Trevor Lawrence has had his struggles this season, but his 52-yard pass to Laviska Shenault Jr. was historically notable.

Through the first three weeks of the 2021 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have not been shy about letting first-overall pick Trevor Lawrence turn it loose with the deep ball. Per Pro Football Focus, Lawrence was tied with Aaron Rodgers and Mac Jones with 16 attempts of 20 or more air yards, fourth-most in the league. And on those 16 deep attempts, Lawrence had completed six passes for 162 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions, and a passer rating of 75.5.

Kind of a mixed bag, but not bad for a rookie who hasn’t always benefited from the most expansive passing game.

But the connection Lawrence had with receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. with 2:23 left in the first half was as good a throw as you’ll see this season.

Lawrence did a great job of rolling to his right, setting his feet, squaring his shoulders to the target, and uncorking one heck of a throw. Cornerback Trae Waynes, who missed the entire 2020 season with a torn pectoral muscle and didn’t play in the first three weeks of the 2021 season with hamstring issues, was the innocent bystander here.

How great was this throw with its combination of running speed and passing depth? Historically so.

The Jaguars led the Bengals 14-0 at the half. It was the first time Jacksonville shut out an opponent on the road since Week 7 of the 2017 season against the Indianapolis Colts. The Jaguars haven’t won a game since Week 1 of the 2020 season, but so far, so good.

Bengals fans have to wait another week to see Trae Waynes debut and have thoughts about it

Trae Waynes is out again and Bengals fans have thoughts.

The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Saturday that No. 1 corner Trae Waynes was downgraded to out for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Waynes seemed like an outside possibility to play as a game-time decision after making his regular-season practice debut with the team this week. That idea lasted roughly 24 hours and guarantees Waynes will miss at least the first three games of the season.

While this might be the coaching staff taking every precaution possible so that Waynes can play in Thursday’s Week 4 contest against Jacksonville, he’s now missed all 19 games since signing a three-year deal worth $42 million a year ago.

Naturally, Bengals fans had some reactions to the news.

Bengals’ Trae Waynes returns to practice ahead of Week 3 vs. Steelers

Some good injury news for the Bengals.

The Cincinnati Bengals got some good news at Thursday’s practice with the return of cornerback Trae Waynes.

After appearing on yesterday’s injury report (alongside other big names, as well as names likes of Ben Roethlisberger and T.J. Watt), Waynes got into the action during practice.

This was Waynes’ first practice in weeks (and technically his first ever in Cincinnati), as the Bengals chose not to put him on injured reserve after a minor injury flare-up at the end of training camp. Doing so would have kept him out at a minimum the first three games of the season. Whether he actually plays in Pittsburgh remains to be seen, but this was a positive first step.

As for the rest of the injury report, the two other DNPs from yesterday were the same:

And for the Steelers:
