Former Vikings CB Trae Waynes can’t catch a break in Cincinnati

CB Trae Waynes, now with the Bengals, continues to face setbacks in Cincinnati.

For Vikings fans, it may be easy to get schadenfreude when a former Minnesota player struggles to meet expectations with a different NFL team.

But with Trae Waynes at this point, Minnesota fans should probably start to feel bad. The Bengals placed Waynes Reserve/Injured list, marking yet another setback during his stint in Cincinnati.

The former Vikings cornerback signed with the Bengals in the offseason of 2020, doing so on a three-year deal worth $42 million with $15 million guaranteed, per Over The Cap.

Despite the large contract, Waynes has played in just two games in his two seasons with the Bengals. Based on his trip to the IR, he has a ways to go before he can get back on the field for the Bengals.

In the offseason of 2020, Minnesota was likely too strapped for cash to make a move for Waynes. The Vikings let some notable veterans walk that year, like Xavier Rhodes and Linval Joseph, both of whom found success with their new teams. Waynes, however, has not made a massive impact with the Bengals just yet. Hopefully for Cincinnati fans, he can get healthy and back on the field.
