Chiefs vs. Texans: Rookie WR Xavier Worthy extends K.C.’s lead with impressive TD

#Chiefs rookie WR Xavier Worthy extended Kansas City’s lead over the Houston #Texans in Week 16 with this impressive touchdown reception.

The Kansas City Chiefs have an eight-point lead over the Houston Texans after a scoring drive that heavily featured rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes drove Kansas City’s offense downfield, targeting Worthy in space to chip away at Houston’s stingy defense.

When the Chiefs finally found themselves in the red zone, Mahomes looked Worthy’s way and threw him a short pass that was easily catchable near the goal line.

The former Texas Longhorn hauled the ball in and sauntered into the end zone to score.

Take a look at this video of the play, which was posted to Twitter by the Chiefs’ official account:

Kansas City has dealt with injuries in its receiving corps all season, but Worthy has risen to the occasion and made the most of his increased opportunities in recent weeks.

Stay tuned to see if the rookie phenom can continue making his presence felt against the Texans as today’s game progresses.

Chiefs vs. Texans: Patrick Mahomes trucks defenders, scores gritty touchdown

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes trucked #Texans defenders to score a gritty rushing touchdown in Kansas City’s Week 16 matchup against Houston.

The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a hot start in their Week 16 matchup against the Houston Texans.

After an interception by rookie defensive back Jaden Hicks on the game’s opening drive, quarterback Patrick Mahomes made short work of the Texans’ defense with a quick scoring drive.

Mahomes marched Kansas City’s offense down the field with ease and got wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown involved on a clutch fourth-down conversion that kept the drive alive.

When Mahomes found himself in the red zone, he decided to take matters into his own hands and trucked one of Houston’s defenders to score a gritty rushing touchdown.

The Chiefs posted a video of Mahomes’ outstanding score to their official Twitter account:

Mahomes’ ankle injury was the biggest question heading into today’s game, but judging from his agility and speed on this touchdown run, the former Texas Tech Red Raider doesn’t seem to be hindered by his condition.

Darren Rizzi on trick-play TD: ‘What a great play, what a great pass, what a great call’

Darren Rizzi was impressed with the Saints’ trick-play touchdown: “What a great play, what a great pass, what a great call”

The New Orleans Saints had a very difficult time moving the ball against the Washington Commanders in the first half, and even moreso trying to put points on the board. However, in the second half, they found a spark of life and managed to score on a trick-play touchdown pass. Spencer Rattler threw over to Cedrick Wilson Jr, who flung a high-arcing pass 21 yards to Alvin Kamara for a one-handed touchdown grab.

It was enough to impress interim head coach Darren Rizzi, who praised everyone involved with it — Wilson on the throw, Kamara on the catch, and offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak for drawing it up and trying it out at practice last week.

This pass was Wilson’s first since 2021, and interestingly enough, he is actually 6-for-6 on completions for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns to 0 interceptions, worthy of a 158.3 passer efficiency rating (the maximum) and a 99 or above QB rating in every season he has thrown a pass. At the collegiate level, he also was effective, completing 4 of his 5 pass attempts in two seasons for 130 yards and 1 touchdown to 0 interceptions.

He was a strong passer at the high school level, too. Per Nola.com’s Rod Walker, Wilson completed 142 of his 239 pass attempts for 1,973 yards and 22 touchdowns in his senior season. The dual-threat had not seen a ton of opportunities for the Saints this season, but after that throw, he may see the field more often to run some more trick plays every now and then.

Chiefs vs. Browns: TE Noah Gray continues hot streak with clutch touchdown

#Chiefs TE Noah Gray caught a touchdown pass from QB Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City’s Week 15 matchup against the Cleveland #Browns.

The Kansas City Chiefs continued their hot start against the Cleveland Browns in Week 15 when Patrick Mahomes connected with budding tight end Noah Gray for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Gray has been among Kansas City’s most productive receivers this season and is proving to be one of Mahomes’ favorite targets, especially when plays break down.

His touchdown catch helped give the Chiefs a 14-point lead on the road before halftime and kept momentum on Kansas City’s side at Huntington Bank Field.

Take a look at this video of Gray’s impressive score, which was posted to Twitter by the Chiefs’ official account:

Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett went down on this play, and seemed to be seriously injured.

However, Garrett returned to the field later in the second quarter.

Stay tuned to see if Gray can keep his hot streak alive in the second half of Kansas City’s matchup against Cleveland.

WATCH: Jayden Daniels, under pressure, throws dime to Terry McLaurin for touchdown

This is Terry McLaurin’s 10th touchdown of the season. A heckuva play from Jayden Daniels and McLaurin.

After the Washington defense quickly forced a New Orleans punt on the game’s first possession, Jayden Daniels and the offense began with excellent field position.

The Commanders had no problem moving the ball down the field but stalled just short of the red zone. New kicker Greg Joseph then made a 45-yard field goal to give Washington an early 3-0 lead.

However, the Saints were penalized, giving the Commanders a first down and wiping the points off the board. A few plays later, Daniels found Olamide Zaccheaus for a touchdown, but it was also wiped off the scoreboard due to an illegal shift penalty.

After yet another penalty, this time a holding call on right guard Sam Cosmi, the Commanders faced a second and goal from the 16-yard line. Under heavy pressure, Daniels escapes multiple sack attempts and somehow finds wide receiver Terry McLaurin in the end zone for a touchdown.

Check it out:

That’s McLaurin’s 10th touchdown of the season, reaching double digits for the first time in his six-year NFL career.

Darren Rizzi says Saints would have played for the win late vs. Rams

Aggression was the order of the day for the Saints, and Darren Rizzi says the plan was to go for two, not hope for overtime, had they scored a late touchdown:

Darren Rizzi’s undefeated two-game run as the New Orleans Saints’ interim head coach has officially come to an end after Sunday’s 21-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

And even after all of the praise Rizzi has received, there were a lot of questions surrounding some of the decisions he made. One of those had to do with the offense’s late-game strategy.

Rizzi said after the game that he would have gone for the two-point conversion if the team would have scored a touchdown late in the game. He said in the postgame press conference that the team was going for the victory and that they recognized they were “reeling on defense” after several Los Angeles possessions drained the clock in the second half.

Nevertheless, that did not come to pass at all because the Saints never did get that late-game touchdown. Derek Carr was under pressure on the final play and no receivers got open against the Rams’ coverage before the pass rush got to him.

Trailing 21-14, they needed a bit more with seven more points there toward the end to tie, and eight, which would have derived from a touchdown and a two-point conversion, to get a victory. Rizzi planned to go out on his terms rather than ask his gassed defense to win the day in overtime, but it never got to that point.

The Saints will look to get back on the right track when they hit the road to face the New York Giants next Sunday.

Chiefs vs. Panthers: Patrick Mahomes finds DeAndre Hopkins for third TD pass

Watch this video of Patrick Mahomes’ touchdown connection with DeAndre Hopkins in the #Chiefs’ Week 12 matchup against the #Panthers.

Patrick Mahomes had a hard time getting the Kansas City Chiefs offense in rhythm against the Carolina Panthers in Week 12 but seems to have refined his approach in the second half.

After two early touchdown receptions by tight end Noah Gray, Mahomes needed to look for another target when the Chiefs drove into Carolina’s end of the field on their first possession in the third quarter.

A ten-play 75-yard drive ended in a touchdown pass from Mahomes to veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins that extended Kansas City’s lead over the Panthers heading into the fourth quarter.

Take a look at Mahomes’ connection with Hopkins in this video, which was posted to Twitter by the Chiefs’ official account:

Expect Mahomes to continue looking Hopkins’ way as Kansas City looks to close out its Week 12 matchup against Carolina.

With a victory, the Chiefs will earn their tenth win of the regular season, and maintain a slim lead over the Buffalo Bills for the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.

Chiefs vs. Panthers: Noah Gray snags second touchdown to extend Kansas City’s lead

Watch this video of #Chiefs TE Noah Gray’s second touchdown reception in Kansas City’s Week 12 matchup against the Carolina #Panthers.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Noah Gray is having a breakout month of November and has continued his run of dominance against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

As defenses focus their attention on the Chiefs’ more notable pass-catchers like tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, lesser-known players are finding plenty of opportunities to catch passes from Patrick Mahomes.

After opening the game with a wide-open touchdown reception, Gray found himself scoring another touchdown as Kansas City drove downfield before halftime.

With under a minute left in the second quarter, and in desperate need of six points, Mahomes found Gray in the back of the endzone for a touchdown connection that extended the Chiefs’ lead.

Take a look at this video of Gray’s second touchdown, which was posted to Twitter by the team’s official account:

Up 20-9 heading into halftime, Kansas City is fighting to get back into the win column after its loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 11.

Stay tuned to see if the reigning Super Bowl champions can finish out Sunday’s game against Carolina with a win.

Rising TE gives Chiefs an early lead over Panthers in Week 12

#Chiefs TE Noah Gray scored a touchdown on Kansas City’s first drive against the Carolina #Panthers in Week 12.

The Kansas City Chiefs are out to a seven-point lead over the Carolina Panthers in Week 12 after Patrick Mahomes hit Noah Gray with a perfect touchdown pass on the defending Super Bowl champions’ first drive.

Gray scored two touchdowns in Kansas City’s Week 11 loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday and wasted no time getting open in Carolina’s secondary to provide Mahomes an easy target downfield.

The touchdown was set up by an outstanding return by Samaje Perine on the opening kickoff, which set the Chiefs up in an ideal field position.

Check out this video of Gray’s outstanding touchdown reception:

Kansas City won’t be able to take its foot off the gas against the Panthers, who are ready to play the spoiler and hand the Chiefs their second loss of the season.

Stay tuned to see if Mahomes will continue to look Gray’s way as this Week 12 matchup continues.

Saints sign a wide receiver back to their practice squad during bye week

The New Orleans Saints re-signed rookie wide receiver Jermaine Jackson back to their practice squad during the bye week:

That didn’t take long. The New Orleans Saints re-signed rookie wide receiver Jermaine Jackson back to their practice squad not long after waiving him last week, with another rookie going on injured reserve as a corresponding move — defensive end Trajan Jeffcoat, who suffered an elbow injury early in training camp and only recently returned to the team.

Jackson had been supplanted as the Saints’ returns specialist by another practice squad wideout, Dante Pettis, but they clearly want to keep him in the fold. Attrition with season-threatening injuries to players like Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Bub Means almost demands they keep that depth intact. But we’ll have to wait and see whether Jackson returns to the field this season.

As for Pettis? He came up a toe’s width shy of a punt returned for a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns last week, but still gained 53 yards on the play. Like Jackson he was an accomplished returns ace in college and interim head coach Darren Rizzi (who of course has a background as a special teams coordinator) wants him to get more opportunities to impact the game.
