The Tucson Sugar Skulls is the IFL team for Ohio State fans

Tucson Sugar Skulls is the IFL team for Ohio State fans #GoBucks #TheIndoorWar

The Indoor Football League has kicked its season off and there are only three former Ohio State football players in this league, but they are all on the same team, which makes being a fan much easier. If you are like me, you don’t necessarily pledge your allegiance to a specific IFL team, but you still want to root for former Buckeyes, the Tucson Sugar Skulls made it happen.

The three Buckeyes playing for Tuscon are IFL veteran, Torrance Gibson, Demario McCall, and Jalin Marshall.

Gibson is a former four-star lefty quarterback out of Florida in the class of 2015, who never found his footing at quarterback for Ohio State and made the position change to wide receiver.

He again struggled to see the field and transferred to both Cincinnati and Mississippi Gulf Coast at the JUCO level. Gibson has been bouncing around the alternative leagues scene, spending time in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos as well as a few other teams in the IFL including the Spokane Shock and Green Bay Blizzard.

Demario McCall is a former four-star running back from the state of Ohio in the class of 2016 and like Gibson never really found a positional home, but unlike Gibson stayed his entire collegiate career at Ohio State. McCall spent time at running back, wide receiver and cornerback before departing and had a cup of coffee with the Chicago Bears. He was supposed to play in the Major League Football league, but that league folded before it even kicked off. He is now a receiver and return man for the Sugar Skulls.

Last, but not least, Jalin Marshall was a five-star recruit from Ohio in the class of 2013 and shined as a wide receiver for the Buckeyes before declaring for the NFL draft early and going undrafted. Marshall still found a home with the New York Jets, but was suspended due to performance-enhancing supplements and eventually cut. He began his alternative football journey with the Orlando Apollos in the Alliance of American Football and dominated enough to get a second NFL shot, this time with the Oakland Raiders. Marshall also shined in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and spent a season with the Edmonton Elks.

The five top-rated Ohio State “athlete” recruits since 2000

The five top-rated Ohio State “athlete” recruits since 2000 #GoBucks

We have been diving into some of the more highly touted recruits in Ohio State history. We recently discussed theĀ quarterbacks,Ā running backs,Ā wide receivers,Ā tight ends,Ā offensive tackles,Ā guards,Ā center,Ā defensive ends,Ā defensive tackles,Ā inside linebackers, outside linebackers, cornerbacks, and safeties We wanted to look into the history of recruiting players listed as athletes. Players listed as athletes are typically out-of-the-box versatile prospects and this list will surely be interesting.

Some exciting names are on this list. Even thoughĀ 247Sportsā€˜ recruiting rankings only go back to 2000, there are some memorable names. It is always fun to reflect on how some of these guys performed and whether they lived up to expectations.

Some of the guys that just missed the cut are Lamaar Thomas, who transferred to New Mexico, Brendon White, who was an Ohio State legacy that transferred to Rutgers, and Jordan Fuller who turned into a star.

Scoutā€™s view: Ohio Stateā€™s latest commitment, quarterback Air Noland

The Buckeyes have their 2024 quarterback #GoBucks

Although [autotag]Prentiss ā€œAirā€ Noland[/autotag] had to wait until last week for his [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] offer, it was the one he was waiting for. The Georgia lefty quarterback committed to the Buckeyes tonight.

He becomes the first true left-handed quarterback on OSUā€™s roster since [autotag]Steve Bellisari[/autotag] in the early 2000s. Yes, [autotag]Torrance Gibson[/autotag] came in as a quarterback, but that didnā€™t last long as heĀ  transitioned to wide receiver shortly after trying his hand at quarterback.

Noland has steadily risen in the recruiting rankings, initially ranked as the No. 200 overall recruit and now sitting as No. 84 overall. The 6-foot, 3-inch, 195-pounder selected Ohio State over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Oregon, and others.

The ninth commit for the Buckeyes will have plenty of weapons at his disposal and is reunited with high school teammate, tight endĀ Jelani Thurman. After watching his highlight tape, Ohio State fans should be ecstatic about the future of the position.

Find out what I liked about Nolandā€™s game after watching his junior season recap in my scoutā€™s view and what to expect during his tenure in Columbus.

Pair of former Ohio State football five-stars sign with new IFL teams

Pair of former five-star #Buckeyes sign with new @IndoorFL teams

It is not too often we discuss some Indoor Football League action on this site, but when two former five-star recruits make a splash we have to dive in! With the Arena Football League officially dead and gone, the IFL is the new big man on campus as far as fast paced indoor action goes.

The IFL season is officially in the books and their free agency period has started. For those that are not too familiar with the league there is a certain amount of star power playing such as Nate Davis from Ball State, former Buckeye Verlon Reed and former “Last Chance U” star, Malik Henry.

Now that you know a tad bit more about the IFL, it is time to see what these two surprising former Ohio State recruits are up to and where we can watch them this spring.

Ohio State Buckeyes in the Indoor Football League

The Indoor Football League starts up soon. Here’s a look at some former Ohio State players that’ll be a part of all the action.

The Indoor Football League is set to kick off on April 23, with an official kick off weekend for some teams moved to May 14 this year (delayed because of COVID-19). With all the indoor craziness getting ready to start up, it got us thinking about some former Ohio State football players that will be suiting up when all the fun begins. With the Arena Football League gone due to some unfortunate circumstances, the IFL is now the premium spring football league.

Buckeyes have a long history of making an impact in indoor football leagues including when the Columbus Destroyers existed and Chris Spielman, Joey Galloway, and Earle Bruce all had their hands in the franchise. The most successful Ohio State football players in indoor football history may be Joe Germaine, Bobby Olive, and of course the unforgettable Art Schlichter. Perhaps down the road, we here at Buckeyes Wire will break down the history of Buckeyes in the league, but today we focus on the Ohio State alums competing in 2021.
