The Indoor Football League has kicked off their season and the Tuscon Sugar Skulls actually have a few former Ohio State players on their roster, but the most memorable is still making plays in Jalin Marshall. Every Buckeye fan will remember Marshall as the homegrown star was a five-star recruit in the class of 2013 and after receiving a redshirt his first season on campus, Marshall was on the field early and often in his collegiate career.

His 38 receptions as a redshirt freshman were the second most in school history for a freshman right behind the 41 receptions from Cris Carter. Marshall played well as a redshirt sophomore, but made the surprising decision to declare for the NFL Draft early.

After going undrafted, Marshall has had a few cups of coffee in the NFL and was a star in the now-defunct Alliance of American Football. Marshall also played North of border in the Canadian Football League, but this past weekend Marshall may have had the most impressive catch of his career.

One Indoor Football League team keeps signing former Ohio State football players. The Massachusetts Pirates signed safety Brendon White after making a splash by signing former Ohio State great Cardale Jones earlier in the year.

White was a former four-star recruit from Powell, Ohio, in the class of 2017. He played three seasons for Ohio State, including a 2019 campaign that saw him earn Defensive MVP honors at the Rose Bowl. White elected to transfer to Rutgers and earned All-Big Ten honors.

White had a cup of coffee with the New York Jets in the NFL after going undrafted, and he was most recently in the XFL with the St. Louis Battlehawks. After being released by the Battlehawks, he was quickly picked up by Massachusetts, the 2021 United Bowl champions.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on how these former Buckeyes are doing in their professional careers and let you know of anything interesting that comes out.

Former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones back in professional football

The man, the myth, the legend, Cardale “12 Gauge” Jones is back in professional football. Jones signed with the Massachusetts Pirates of the Indoor Football League. Most Ohio State Buckeye fans remember Jones from his playing days during the 2014 national championship run and victory.

After a successful collegiate career, Jones went on to have an up-and-down career in the NFL. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills and had cups of coffee with the Los Angeles Chargers and Seattle Seahawks before giving the DC Defenders of the XFL and the Edmonton Elks of the CFL a shot.

It is not very often the Indoor Football League adds a star such as Jones, but he will no doubt make plays for the Pirates who last won the United Bowl in 2021. Unfortunately, there are no IFL teams in the state of Ohio, but their games can often be found on YouTube.

So, find a way to dial up these games and watch an Ohio State favorite continue to play in the professional ranks.

Pair of former five-star #Buckeyes sign with new @IndoorFL teams

It is not too often we discuss some Indoor Football League action on this site, but when two former five-star recruits make a splash we have to dive in! With the Arena Football League officially dead and gone, the IFL is the new big man on campus as far as fast paced indoor action goes.

The IFL season is officially in the books and their free agency period has started. For those that are not too familiar with the league there is a certain amount of star power playing such as Nate Davis from Ball State, former Buckeye Verlon Reed and former “Last Chance U” star, Malik Henry.

Now that you know a tad bit more about the IFL, it is time to see what these two surprising former Ohio State recruits are up to and where we can watch them this spring.

Former Buckeye wins IFL Player Of The Week

A former Buckeye is making moves in the Indoor Football League.

We take great pride at Buckeyes Wire at keeping up with and rooting for former Ohio State players, and this week we have some good news for one former Buckeye receiver. Verlon Reed who spent both 2011 and 2012 with Ohio State as a wide receiver finished his collegiate career at the Division II level with Findlay, and was an absolutely dominating and electric quarterback at that level.

Reed has had a dominant career in the Indoor Football League and exploded on the scene in 2017 when he won IFL Rookie of the Year. During the off-season, the expansion Northern Arizona Wranglers signed Reed and after an up and down start to the season dominated in week ten.

In the franchise’s first-ever win, Reed was responsible for five touchdowns as the Wranglers defeated the Tucson Sugar Skulls 48-44. He had two touchdowns through the air and added three on the ground, including the go-ahead touchdown run with thirty seconds left.

Ohio State Buckeyes in the Indoor Football League

The Indoor Football League starts up soon. Here’s a look at some former Ohio State players that’ll be a part of all the action.

The Indoor Football League is set to kick off on April 23, with an official kick off weekend for some teams moved to May 14 this year (delayed because of COVID-19). With all the indoor craziness getting ready to start up, it got us thinking about some former Ohio State football players that will be suiting up when all the fun begins. With the Arena Football League gone due to some unfortunate circumstances, the IFL is now the premium spring football league.

Buckeyes have a long history of making an impact in indoor football leagues including when the Columbus Destroyers existed and Chris Spielman, Joey Galloway, and Earle Bruce all had their hands in the franchise. The most successful Ohio State football players in indoor football history may be Joe Germaine, Bobby Olive, and of course the unforgettable Art Schlichter. Perhaps down the road, we here at Buckeyes Wire will break down the history of Buckeyes in the league, but today we focus on the Ohio State alums competing in 2021.
