Raiders host Boston College WR Zay Flowers on Top 30 visit

Boston College WR Zay Flowers visiting Raiders today

The Top 30 visits continue in Las Vegas. And it’s another offensive player. They hosted Kentucky QB Will Levis Monday and today it’s Boston College WR Zay Flowers coming to town according to NFL media’s Tom Pelissero.

This is ahead of Florida QB Anthony Richardson set to visit on Friday.

Flowers is a projected first round pick in April’s draft.

The 5-10 177-pound receiver caught 78 passes for 1077 yards and 12 touchdowns last season for the BC Eagles.

Flowers fan a 4.42 40-yard-dash at the scouting combine which was 9th at his position.

The Raiders currently employ arguably the best receiver in the game in DaVante Adams. They also have one of the league’s top slot receivers in Hunter Renfrow and just signed the top free agent receiver in Jakobi Meyers. So, drafting a receiving in the first round would be a strange move. Perhaps they’re hoping Flowers somehow makes it to them in the second round?

Raiders to host Kentucky QB Will Levis on Top-30 visit

Will Levis is visiting the Raiders today

It’s April which means draft preparation is kicking into high gear. The Raiders hold the seventh overall pick and find themselves squarely in the market for a quarterback. Picking the right one will take all the due diligence.

Today they will exercise some of that due diligence, hosting Kentucky’s Will Levis on a Top-30 visit.

Levis is widely considered one of the draft’s top four quarterbacks, all of whom are expected to be selected in the top ten, and potentially the top five, should teams trade up.

Therefore, the decision as to which of the QB’s the Raiders select could end up out of their hands. But whether they choose to trade up, or take one such as Levis at seven, should he be there, depends on the impression they get from his visit along with his pro day and scouting combine workout.

Other top QB prospects in this draft include CJ Stroud, Bryce Young, and Anthony Richardson. With Stroud and Young figuring to be out of reach, Richardson and Levis are the two that seem potentially attainable at seven.

Chiefs Check-in: Kansas City meets with several prospects as draft hype ratchets up

The Kansas City Chiefs offseason is in full swing, and the team recently met with several prospects who may play a factor in their draft strategy when the annual selection meeting gets underway in April. As their meetings with collegiate talent unfold, their path toward defending their Super Bowl title is becoming clearer by the day.

Here is a look at the most essential Chiefs stories for the morning of Friday, March 23rd.

Chiefs host SMU WR Rashee Rice on top-30 visit

The #Chiefs have a wide receiver in town for a top-30 visit who played with Shane Buechele at SMU.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to bring some top 2023 NFL draft prospects to town for top-30 visits. This time they’ve got a talented wide receiver prospect who played with Shane Buechele for two seasons at SMU.

SMU WR Rashee Rice posted on his Instagram account that he was in Kansas City for a visit with the Chiefs (h/t to Arrowhead Live for the screen capture). K.C. was already in attendance for Rice’s pro day at SMU last week, but they seem to be out to get some more information on this prospect ahead of the draft.

Rice is coming off the best season of his Mustangs career, with career-high marks in receptions (96), yards (1,355) and touchdowns (10). He had a really impressive performance at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine with a 4.51s 40-yard dash (1.5 10-yard split), a 41-inch vertical (tied for best among receivers) and a 10-foot-8 broad jump.

If you’re unfamiliar with top-30 visits, they don’t always denote interest from a team. They’re just another piece in the pre-draft fact-finding mission that teams go through with prospects. They’re allotted 30 visits and they use those in a variety of different ways. In the case of Rice, he had a toe injury that hampered him all year. The team likely wants to do some work there to clear him medically ahead of the 2023 NFL draft.

Chiefs to host UNM Lobos S Jerrick Reed II on top 30 visit

The #Chiefs are set to host UNM Lobos S Jerrick Reed II on a top-30 visit per report.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to bring players in for top-30 visits, this time hosting a standout from the Mountain West Conference.

According to The Draft Network’s Justin Melo, the Chiefs are scheduled to have New Mexico S Jerrick Reed II in on a top-30 visit. A First Team All-Mountain West Conference selection back in 2020, Reed became the first Lobos defensive back to earn a First-Team All-Conference selection since Glover Quin back in 2008.

Reed has developed the reputation of a ballhawk during his college career. He has centerfield range, but he’s also not afraid to come down and make a tackle in run support. Listed at 5-foot-10 and 192 pounds, Reed has 266 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, seven interceptions, 21 passes defended and one defensive touchdown since 2019. His pro day workout showed that he’s a tremendous athlete, on par with the best invited to the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine.

Even adding Mike Edwards via free agency, the Chiefs are unlikely to be done adding at the safety position. Reed could be a late-round pick or a priority undrafted free-agent addition for Kansas City.

If you’re unfamiliar with the term top-30 visit, these are pre-draft visits that NFL teams are allotted as a way to get to know draft prospects better. Prospects will be brought to Kansas City and have a chance to meet with position coaches and front office executives. On occasion, they’ll get a chance to meet with a few players who are working at the team facility. Some players are brought in to get more medical information on injuries sustained in college, while others are brought in to see if they’ll fit with the team culture. In cases of players like Reed, this may simply be an opportunity for the team to sell him on joining the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent should he not be selected in April’s draft.

Chiefs to host Stephen F. Austin EDGE BJ Thompson on top-30 visit

The #Chiefs are bringing in a standout edge rusher from the East-West Shrine Bowl for a top-30 visit.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to bring players in for top-30 visits, this time hosting a standout from the East-West Shrine Bowl.

According to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, the Chiefs are one of two teams (along with the Detroit Lions) hosting Stephen F. Austin EDGE BJ Thompson on a top-30 visit. If you’re not familiar with top-30 visits, NFL teams receive an allotment of 30 visits with which they can host draft prospects. It’s an opportunity to bring players to team facilities to get to know them better in a more personal experience. This is now the third reported top-30 visit for Kansas City, alongside Pittsburgh DL Deslin Alexandre and Western Kentucky DT Brodric Martin.

Wilson also reports that Thompson, who is listed at 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds with 34-inch arms, is expected to perform extremely well at his pro day on March 21. He suggests that the edge rusher boasts 4.4 speed, a 40-inch vertical, and a 135-inch broad jump. Those would rival the athletic testing of Georgia EDGE Nolan Smith, who posted the top numbers at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Thompson originally began his career in Waco, Texas at Baylor and transferred to play for the Lumberjacks after two seasons with the Bears. He started 27 games with Stephen F. Austin from 2020-2022, recording 69 total tackles with 18.5 sacks.

Watching his tape, Thompson is much more of a threat to win with speed off the edge than he is with power. His first step is explosive, which was showcased in the East-West Shrine Bowl when he recorded four total tackles, 1.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits. Could Thompson end up being this year’s James Houston for the edge rusher group in the 2023 NFL draft?

Eagles to host LSU DT Jaquelin Roy on a top-30 predraft visit

The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing to host LSU defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy on a top-30 pre-draft visit

The new league year is fast approaching and that means the top 30 predraft visits for some of the college football’s top prospects ahead of the NFL draft.

With Javon Hargrave and Fletcher Cox potentially exiting via free agency, Tom Pelissero is reporting that Philadelphia will host LSU defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy at the NovaCare Complex in the coming days.

Standing 6-foot-4, 315 pounds, Roy had 97 tackles, 4.0 sacks, and one forced fumble during his time in Baton Rouge.

In 2022, the massive defensive tackle had 49 tackles and 0.5 sacks as a space eater.

Chiefs hosted Florida Atlantic DB Zyon Gilbert on a top-30 visit

The #Chiefs hosted versatile defensive back prospect Zyon Gilbert on a top-30 visit per report.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbwa53mtds520q2 player_id=none image=https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Another day, another newly reported top-30 visit for the Kansas City Chiefs. This time they’re looking at a versatile defensive back prospect with experience playing both cornerback and safety.

According to the Draft Network’s Justin Melo, the Chiefs are one of three teams to have hosted Florida Atlantic DB Zyon Gilbert on a top-30 visit. He also previously met with the Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals per Melo.

Gilbert (6-foot, 193 pounds) started off his career playing safety before switching to cornerback during his final two seasons with Florida Atlantic. Usually, things go the opposite way, but not for Gilbert. He’s been a highly-productive player with the Owls at the cornerback position over the past two seasons, with 96 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions, 15 passes defended and one forced fumble. His junior season was his best as a safety, with 48 total tackles, two interceptions and eight passes defended.

This is a player who has a really good feel for zone coverage from his time playing safety. He was pretty sticky in coverage while playing corner in the C-USA, which led to teams not throwing his way often the past two seasons. Athleticism is also the name of the game for Gilbert, who flashed big-time during his pro-day workout. He posted a 4.40s 40-yard dash, a 40-inch vertical and a 138-inch broad jump.

Gilbert wouldn’t be the first player from FAU that the Chiefs have taken an interest in. Back in 2019, they signed DBs Herb Miller and Andrew Soroh as undrafted free agents, though neither player ended up making the team.

Chiefs hosting Texas Tech WR Erik Ezukanma on top-30 visit

The #Chiefs are hosting a WR from Patrick Mahomes’ alma mater on a top-30 visit today.

The Kansas City Chiefs are hosting a player for a top-30 visit who played college football at Patrick Mahomes’ alma mater.

Texas Tech WR Erik Ezukanma posted to his Instagram story pictures of him visiting the Chiefs’ practice facilities on Thursday. Blue Wire podcasts host Billy Marshall shared a screenshot of those pictures on Twitter.

A Fort Worth, Texas native, Ezukanma first started with the Red Raiders in 2018 as a four-star recruit. He didn’t get a chance to play with Mahomes, but it’s possible the two crossed paths when Ezukanma was recruited to Texas Tech. Should Ezukanma join the Chiefs in the 2022 NFL draft, he’ll get a chance to play with the Red Raiders legend.

In 2018, Ezukanma appeared in two games recording multiple catches for 48 yards and a touchdown before redshirting. He’d lead Texas Tech in receiving yards in each of the next three seasons, starting with 42 receptions for 664 yards and four touchdowns in 2019. During his sophomore season in 2020, Ezukanma caught 46 passes for 748 yards and six touchdowns. As a junior in 2021, Ezukanma caught 48 passes for 706 yards and four touchdowns.

Ezukanma weighed in at 6-2 and 209 pounds at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. He didn’t participate in the 40-yard dash at the combine, but he ran it in 4.53 seconds at his pro day. At the combine, Ezukanma jumped a 36.5-inch vertical, a 126-inch broad jump and ran a 4.38s shuttle run.
