WATCH: Tom Izzo talks about the potential of retiring

Tom Izzo talked about retirement in an interview with NBC Sports:

It is no secret that Tom Izzo is starting to get up there in age. The longtime MSU head coach turned 69 this year, while having over 45 years of coaching experience in the bank.

Obviously, with the increased age that Izzo is now in, the prospects of retiring are slowly becoming a reality.

While that day is coming closer and closer, in an interview with NBC Sports, Izzo said that day won’t be coming any time soon.

It wasn’t easy, but Michigan State basketball is dancing once again

It wasn’t easy, but Michigan State basketball is dancing once again.

The Spartans received a bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday evening, extending the country’s longest active streak of reaching the Big Dance 26 straight appearances. Michigan State landed as a No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 seed Mississippi State in the first round on Thursday.

After a weekend of crazy bubble results, Michigan State was not a lock to make the NCAA Tournament this year. That was seen on head coach Tom Izzo’s face when the Spartans heard their name called on the Selection Sunday show.

Michigan State basketball makes 26th straight NCAA Tournament

For the 26th tournament in a row, Michigan State basketball is going dancing

For the 26th time in a row, starting in 1998, Michigan State basketball is going dancing. Despite a lot of stress this weekend after some crazy conference tournament outcomes put them back on the bubble, the Spartans will still sneak into the NCAA Tournament after a 19-14 season.

The Spartans will be in the region as the 9-seed, going up against 8-seeded Mississippi State. So yes, it will be MSU vs. MSU in the NCAA Tournament.

Bracketology round-up: Michigan State basketball arrives to Selection Sunday

Follow along with what the bracketologists say is going to happen to Michigan State ahead of the selection show:

The time is here and it is officially Selection Sunday, unfortunately for Michigan State fans, it has turned into a stressful day of anticipation.

Quite frankly, coming into yesterday, there were four scenarios that Spartan fans did not want to see happen. Unfortunately, once again for MSU and it’s fans, all four scenarios happened and the bubble has shrunk drastically.

In unprecedented fashion, there has been five bids stolen over the past two days, turning the bubble into an absolute mess. On Friday, the Spartans were a lock and looking at a 9 or 10 seed. On Sunday morning, Dayton and the First Four might be looking like the best case scenario.

Luckily, putting Spartans fans at ease, for now, the bracketologists still love the Spartans chances of getting into the field of 68:

WATCH: Tom Izzo reacts to Michigan State basketball’s loss to Indiana

It was another tough road loss for Michigan State basketball at Indiana on Sunday, and Tom Izzo wasn’t thrilled with the performance, despite being proud of his team for fighting through a rough night.

Izzo didn’t like the shots that his team took down the stretch as they lost a late lead.

Michigan State basketball drops heartbreaker to Indiana

Michigan State drops heartbreaker to Indiana to conclude regular season

Welcome back to the bubble, Michigan State fans. With a chance to secure an NCAA Tournament bid, the Spartans fell just short, losing on the road to Indiana, 65-64.

The Spartans had a chance, with under 15 seconds and a chance to take the lead, but Tyson Walker missed a floater in the lane, ending the MSU chances.

MSU overcame a 17-point deficit in the game, and even led by 7 in the second half, but ultimately couldn’t close the game, a scene we have seen far too often this season.

Walker led the way with 30 points, with A.J. Hoggard and Jaden Akins both adding 10 points a piece.

The Spartans will be back in action, in the Big Ten Tournament, against Minnesota or Ohio State on Thursday at noon.

This is one regular season that I think Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball won’t mind seeing go to the wayside, but there is still one more game at Indiana where the Spartans can change some of their story before the postseason begins.

On Friday, Tom Izzo spoke to the media about his team and the match-up, and you can watch that below:

Tom and Steven Izzo revealed that Michigan State basketball rebuilt their relationship and now we can’t stop crying

Who is cutting onions? Our eyes are suddenly very sweaty.

Michigan State’s Senior Night meant a lot to fans and several players, but we may never be able to quantify what it meant to Tom Izzo and his son, Steven. After a win against Northwestern, the two got very choked up while discussing how they rebuilt parts of their relationship through basketball.

On Wednesday, during a postgame interview with Andy Katz, it was revealed that Tom missed parts of Steven’s childhood. Still, basketball allowed them to regain some of the time they didn’t spend together when Steven joined the Michigan State men’s basketball team as a walk-on. They could hardly keep it together in an incredibly raw, emotional moment as they shared what the last five years meant to their father-and-son relationship.

As Andy turned to ask Steven a question, Tom wrapped his arm around his son, and Steven shared these words while looking at his dad:

“I’m so thankful that he allowed me to walk-on five years ago, and it’s been the greatest decision that I’ve ever made, no matter how hard the lifts are or how long the meetings go. It’s all worth it at the end of the day, and I’m just so grateful that I’m able to do it with you.”

Tom then shared his thoughts about how special it was for Steven to play for him:

“I tell every man or woman out there that coaches a man’s or woman’s sport, if you can have or son or daughter with you, there’s nothing better. We’ve all sacrificed a lot — some coaches sacrifice more than I do — but getting some of that back means the world to me.”

Tom, Steven Izzo get emotional after MSU basketball’s senior day win

Tom and Steven Izzo got emotional in their post game interview with Big Ten Network

Michigan State hosted Northwestern on Wednesday night for senior day, and included in that senior day was Tom Izzo’s son, Steven. The Spartans were able to grind out a gritty 53-49 win to highlight the night.

After the win, Big Ten Network’s Andy Katz got Tom and Steven together for an interview, and needless to say, it got emotional.
