Michigan State basketball drops heartbreaker to Indiana

Michigan State drops heartbreaker to Indiana to conclude regular season

Welcome back to the bubble, Michigan State fans. With a chance to secure an NCAA Tournament bid, the Spartans fell just short, losing on the road to Indiana, 65-64.

The Spartans had a chance, with under 15 seconds and a chance to take the lead, but Tyson Walker missed a floater in the lane, ending the MSU chances.

MSU overcame a 17-point deficit in the game, and even led by 7 in the second half, but ultimately couldn’t close the game, a scene we have seen far too often this season.

Walker led the way with 30 points, with A.J. Hoggard and Jaden Akins both adding 10 points a piece.

The Spartans will be back in action, in the Big Ten Tournament, against Minnesota or Ohio State on Thursday at noon.

Updated: Michigan State basketball’s Big Ten Tournament seeding scenarios heading into Sunday

Updated Big Ten Tournament seeding scenarios for Michigan State heading into Sunday:

There is just one day left in the regular season across college basketball, as the postseason is set to start and seriously ramp up. Sunday’s slate of regular season games will shape the remaining undecided conference tournament seedings.

For the Big Ten, there is still 64 possible scenarios that the seeding can play out for the Big Ten Tournament, but for MSU, the scenarios are quite simple.

To get the 6-seed: Michigan State needs to beat Indiana and Illinois beats Iowa.

To get the 7-seed: Michigan State needs to beat Indiana and Iowa beats Illinois.

To get the 8-seed: Michigan State loses to Indiana.

So quite simply for the Spartans, beating Indiana will lock them into the 6 or 7-seed in the Big Ten Tournament and losing to Indiana will lock them into 8-seed.

Michigan State football bringing Old Brass Spittoon back to East Lansing, defeats Indiana

Michigan State is bringing Old Brass Spittoon back to East Lansing after defeating Indiana on the road

The Old Brass Spittoon is coming back to East Lansing after the Spartans went on the road to Bloomington to knock off Indiana, 24-21.

MSU avoided being on the wrong side of history, avoiding back to back losses to the Hoosiers for the first time since a three game losing streak from 1967-69.

Down 21-17, it was redshirt freshman QB Katin Houser leading the Spartans on an 8-play, 75 yard game winning touchdown drive, capped off by a 36-yard touchdown pass to Maliq Carr.

With just over a minute to go, the Spartans needed one more stop to hold off the pesty Hoosiers, and they did just that. A bend-don’t-break drive left Indiana a 50-yard field goal that went wide right, securing the win for MSU.

Houser finished the game throwing the ball 26-for-41 and 245 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. The Spartans were led by Carr with 9 receptions for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Montorie Foster added 7 catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.

The Spartans, now 4-7, will head to Ford Field for the season finale against Penn State next week.
