Every Boston Celtics head coach of an All-Star game in NBA history

The Celtics make history by sending the first interim head coach to helm the 2023 NBA All-Star Game – these are the other alum coaches.

The Boston Celtics are making history by sending the first interim head coach of a team to be the head coach of the 2023 NBA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City on Sunday, Feb. 19 with star wings Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum in tow, with Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla being uniquely honored due to the fact that the Celtics command the Eastern Conference’s top spot.

It will very much NOT be the first time a Celtics head coach has helmed an East All-Star squad, however, with the annals of the annual exhibition tilt littered with the names of Boston alumni.

Let’s dive into every Celtics alum who has ever coached an All-Star squad in the history of the NBA.

Who are the top 10 Boston Celtics players of all time?

From Ed Macauley and Bill Russell to Dave Cowens, Larry Bird, and Paul Pierce, the list of names to choose from is extensive.

Who are the top 10 Boston Celtics players of all time? Back in the early years, there was Ed Macauley and Bill Sharman, then in the dynasty years a plethora of options ranging from Bob Cousy, Bill Russell, Tom Heinsohn, Satch Sanders, KC Jones, and John Havlicek.

Later, you could pick from Dave Cowens, Paul Silas, and JoJo White in the 1970s, and Cedric Maxwell, Larry Bird, Robert Parish, and Kevin McHale in the 1980s. The 1990s had Antoine Walker and Paul Pierce, the latter of whom stuck around to win a title in the aughts with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

Even with all that star power under the history of one franchise, you could still more names the list is so long, making the job done by ESPN’s Andrew Lopez, Tim Bontemps, and Ros Gold-Onwude on a recent episode of the “NBA Crosscourt” show all the more impressive.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what names made their lists — and which ones did not.

Tatum on historic Christmas outing: ‘It’s something I never want to take for granted’

Jayson Tatum reflected on his place in Celtics lore after dropping 41 on Sunday, the second most points scored on Christmas in franchise history.

On Sunday evening Jayson Tatum became just the third Boston Celtics player to ever score 40 points or more on Christmas Day as Boston defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 139-118. A massive dunk over Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo was the highlight of the night, but Tatum was excellent all game long.

Tatum ended the game with 41 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Only Tommy Heinsohn has ever scored more points Christmas Day in Celtics history. Heinsohn dropped 45 back in 1961 against the Syracuse Nationals. Kyrie Irving, the third name on the list, had 40 back in 2018.

After the game, Celtics Wire asked Tatum is he ever considers his place in Celtics history given his scoring outburst Sunday afternoon.

“Do I ever think about it?” Tatum said. “No, just because we have so much history, all the banners, and so many retired numbers that it feels like those guys just accomplished so much.”

“Myself and the other guys, we’re trying to get there. But it’s hard to think in the moment at 24 that I have a place in Celtic history.”

Celtics Wire also asked Tatum about playing on Christmas. Tatum has played on Christmas Day each year he’s played in the league.

“It’s definitely an honor,” Tatum said. “I’ve said many times how much I enjoy playing here, and what it means to play on Christmas. It’s something I never want to take for granted.”

“As a kid that was part of the tradition. Eat, be with family, and watch the games. I’d try to envision myself playing up there one day. And now I get to do that.”

Every player in Boston Celtics history who wore No. 15

This is every player in Boston’s history who wore the Celtics’ No. 15 jersey for at least one game as of September 2022.

The Boston Celtics have more retired jerseys than any other team in the NBA, but that doesn’t mean the rest of their jerseys have little history of interest tied to them.

In fact, with 17 titles to their name and decades of competitive basketball, their unretired jersey numbers pack some of the most history not hanging from the rafters of any team in the league. To that end, we launched our accounting of that history with every player in every jersey worn by more than one Celtics player in the storied franchise’s history accounted for.

Today’s installment focuses on the six players who wore No. 15 over the years as of September 2022.

On this day: Heinsohn hired as coach; Embry traded for; Douglas born

On this day, the Boston Celtics hired former player Tommy Heinsohn as coach, traded for Wayne Embry, and Sherman Douglas was born.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, the storied franchise hired their former star forward Tommy Heinsohn as head coach. A product of Holy Cross, Heinsohn had been drafted by the Celtics as a player in 1956, the Union City, New Jersey native would play nine seasons for the team, winning titles in eight of them among many other honors.

Heinsohn retired from playing in 1965 to do play-by-play announcing (he would again after coaching) and would be hired as coach four seasons later. He would lead the Celtics to an NBA-best 68-14 record in the 1972-73 season, garnering Coach of the Year honors.

He would win titles as a coach with Boston in 1974 and 1976 and was fired from the job after a disappointing 1977-78 season.

Q. How does a team go from a 39-33 …
