Report: Klay Thompson signing with Mavericks as part of multi-team sign-and-trade

The franchise legend is reportedly signing with the Dallas Mavericks as part of a multi-team sign-and trade.

After multiple reports have indicated the Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson were preparing to part ways following a legendary run that included four championships, the 34-year-old sharpshooter is reportedly heading to Dallas to join the defending Western Conference champions.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Thompson is planning to sign a three-year, $50 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks as part of a multi-team sign-and-trade that will include the Charlotte Hornets. The Mavericks are trading Josh Green to the Hornets as a part of the deal, per Wojnarowski.

Alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, Thompson was a core piece of Golden State’s dynastic run. Thompson served as one of Golden State’s “Splash Brothers” next to Curry, reigning down 3-pointers on the way to multiple NBA Finals appearances and four championships.

After he was drafted by the Warriors in 2011 out of Washington State in the first round, Thompson played the next 13 seasons in the Bay Area (missing two seasons due to injury). During his time with the Warriors, Thompson made five appearances in the All-Star game and earned spots on two All-NBA teams.

In 11 seasons, Thompson averaged 19.6 points per game on 45.3% shooting from the field and 41.3% from beyond the arc. Thompson made 200 or more 3-pointers in 11 seasons, including a league-best 301 in 2022-23. Thompson trails on Steph Curry on Golden State’s all-time made 3-pointer list.

Thompson will now join Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving on the team that represented the Western Conference in the NBA Finals last season.

The remaining details of the sign-and-trade, including Golden State’s side of the deal have yet to be released.

Report: FAU QB Casey Thompson to miss rest of season with torn ACL

The FAU quarterback exited Saturday’s game against Clemson after the injury. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the specifics Monday.

Florida Atlantic quarterback Casey Thompson will miss the rest of the 2023 season after he tore his ACL during Saturday’s loss to Clemson, as ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported.

Thompson left the game early in the second quarter after he took a big hit in the pocket. He was helped off the field by trainers.

The senior quarterback started his career with the Texas Longhorns back when current FAU coach Tom Herman led the program. He spent 2019-2021 with Texas and started for Nebraska in 2022 before he reunited with Herman in Boca Raton this offseason.

This was Thompson’s sixth and final year of NCAA eligibility.

The Owls turned to junior Daniel Richardson after Thompson left. Richardson completed 18 of 32 passes for 120 yards and an interception to close the game. Richardson transferred from Central Michigan over the offseason, where he started for the last two years.

MUST SEE: Unreal comeback in Alabama 7A State Championship

What’s the best football comeback you’ve ever seen? We promise you this one gives it a run for it’s money…

While scanning Twitter on Wednesday night, I noticed a tweet referencing “Auburn is one stop away from being state champions” and it caught my attention.

Wait, didn’t Alabama and Auburn just play a few days ago?

So I clicked on the profile to find out two high schools I’d never heard of, Auburn and Thompson were playing in the Alabama Class 7A state championship.

Normally I wouldn’t be posting an article about high school football on here unless it had a direct recruiting connection to Notre Dame, but trust me when I say this is worth your time if you’re the least bit a football fan.

Thompson sounds like it was a huge favorite but were met by an Auburn team that played the game of their lives.

Well, for at least 46:30 or so.

Here’s what happened…

Lipscomb Academy football stuns defending Alabama 7A state champion Thompson

Lipscomb with the shocker over Thompson.

Saturday night’s battle between defending state champions wasn’t short on the dramatics and capped off a busy Friday and Saturday of high school football.

Thompson, the three-time defending Class 7A state champions in Alabama, went up against Lipscomb Academy, the defending Division II-AA state champions in Tennessee.

And while both are respected programs, the Thompson Warriors were the clear favorites.

But if we’ve learned anything from Miami Central’s upset of IMG Academy (albeit controversial) on Friday, it’s that the unknowns of football are always willing to join the party—including defensive stands that result in 14 unanswered points.

It began with Bryan Longwell’s interception that he returned for a touchdown in the third quarter.

That defensive gem was followed up with this fumble recovery by Kaleb Beasley…one that he returned 100 yards for another score.

Beasley’s highlight-reel play gave the Mustangs a 24-14 lead, highlighting a monumental comeback that began with Thompson up 14-3 at halftime.

Big-time upset?

Considering Thompson’s track record—another perennial Super 25 team—it’s pretty safe to label the Mustangs’ win as an all-timer in Lipscomb Academy history.

And the fact it was a nationally televised game on ESPN only makes it that much more special—for the players and former ESPN analyst turned Mustangs head coach Trent Dilfer.

In a battle of past Super 25 teams, Buford beats Thompson handily in ‘Freedom Bowl’

High School Football: Buford beats Thompson handily in ‘Freedom Bowl’

Two of the best high school football teams in the country met on Friday night in an early clash of potential Super-25 powers.

Buford (Ga.) beat Thompson (Ala.) by a score of 38-7. Despite the lopsided final score, the game was actually close throughout the first half, with the only points coming on this touchdown pass from Dylan Wittke to KJ Bolden.

The outcome was sealed in the second half thanks to five sacks and a couple of pick-sixes by Buford’s defense, one by Justin Baker and another for Bryson Banks.

At quarterback, Wittke went 10-of-15 for 125 total passing yards and an interception. However, the real star of the evening was Buford running back Justice Haynes, who totaled 93 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and added another score on a kickoff return.

Afterward, Haynes credited his teammates and looked forward to playing at Alabama, where he’s committed – per AL.com.

“I love it… That’s how it’s going to be at Bama. There are going to be great players all around me. Each and every day we’re 1-on-1. We push each other. … Just to be able to compete with makes me a better player.”

This week Buford hosts Mallard Creek (N.C.), while Thompson hosts Lipscomb (Tenn.).

Tennessee football provides opportunity for Alabama quarterback to join Vols’ program

Tennessee football provides opportunity for Alabama quarterback to join Vols’ program.

Tennessee continues to add to its roster during the early signing period. The early signing period concludes Friday.

During the early signing period, Tennessee has offered a roster spot to 2021 quarterback Cade Golden.

Golden is a senior at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama and has been offered an opportunity as a preferred walk-on with the Vols.

Golden is a product of the same high school that produced Alabama transfer and current Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa.

He won the 7A state championship in both 2019 and 2020 with Thompson.

Golden has received offers from small programs such as Clarke and Sewanee, and also as a preferred walk-on opportunity with Florida State.

Tennessee has signed one quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class in 4-star dual-threat prospect Kaidon Salter. He signed during the early signing period.

MSU Football offers 2023 DE Peter Woods, currently projected to go to Alabama

Michigan State has offered a 2023 defensive end who is currently projected to go to Alabama.

[jwplayer gcEn4Lgq]

If Mel Tucker has shown us anything during his brief tenure at Michigan State, it’s that he has the confidence to go after some of the biggest recruits in the country, even if it means going head-to-head on the trail with his old mentor Nick Saban. On Monday, 2023 defensive end Peter Woods announced that he has received an offer from the Spartans. Woods is currently projected by 247Sports to end up with Saban at Alabama.

This would make sense as Woods resides in Alabaster, Alabama where he currently plays football for Thompson High School.

Despite being a 2023 recruit, Woods already has offers out from some of the biggest schools in the country aside from Alabama including Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Ole Miss, Georgia, Notre Dame, LSU, and Penn State.

3 takeaways from Klay Thompson’s ‘Above The Waves’ documentary

What did we learn from Klay Thompson’s documentary?

After missing 65 games for the Golden State Warriors in the 2019-20 season, Klay Thompson gave an inside look into his journey back to the court. The Golden State Warriors shooting guard released a six-minute short documentary detailing his ACL surgery rehab.

Along with Thompson’s partner Kaiser Permanente, the film was created by Translation, and directed by Floyd Russ with his creative production partner Tool of North America.

The documentary chronicles Thompson’s recovery from the moment he suffered his injury in game six of the 2019 NBA Finals. The five-time All-Star discusses his injury, the steps in his rehab and his thoughts on the future of the Golden State Warriors dynasty run.

After watching Above The Waves, here are three takeaways we learned from Thompson’s documentary.

Klay Thompson breaks out a familiar uniform for workout while injured

Klay Thompson is still injured, but his No. 11 Golden State jersey returned to court for a pregame workout.

It’s been over 200 days since Golden State Warriors fans have seen Klay Thompson’s No. 11 jersey on the court in action. A knee injury has taken Thompson away from the court for every single game so far in the 2019-20 NBA season. However, before the Warriors tipped off against the Denver Nuggets, Thompson was spotted working out at Chase Center in familiar attire.

Participating in a solo-shootaround, Thompson donned his No. 11 Golden State game jersey during his practice session. Thompson pulled out the Warriors throwback with “San Francisco” striped across the chest of the jersey for his workout. Along with the full uniform kit, Thompson wore a bright yellow headband to complete his outfit.

Thompson’s ACL evaluation is scheduled for the All-Star break. However, the All-Star shooter is progressing through his rehab and back around the Golden State Warriors on a more consistent basis as his recovery moves forward.

Thompson recently met with the media in San Francisco and spoke about his ACL rehab, saying he’s been working every day he could since the 2019 NBA Finals ended.

It’s been a long process – I haven’t stopped working since the third day after game six of the 2019 Finals – you might not see me a lot, but oh — I’m working.

Thompson backed up his words with his game-ready shootaround at Chase Center in San Francisco Thursday night.

With the Warriors struggling at the bottom of the Western Conference standings, expect Golden State to be patient with Thompson’s knee injury. There’s no need to rush the “Splash Brother” with the Warriors season turning into being about a high draft position instead of a playoff spot.

Yet, seeing Thompson back at Chase Center in uniform provides a breath of fresh air in a down season for the Golden State Warriors’ fanbase.
