Former Spartan makes comment about Michigan Stadium

A former Spartan called out Michigan Stadium this week

Michigan State football lost a big-time player to the NCAA transfer portal this past offseason when Derrick Harmon made the move to transfer to the Oregon Ducks.

Despite leaving the MSU program, Harmon had some fan favorite moments with the Spartans and its fans, and this week, ahead of the Ducks game against Michigan, Harmon called out Michigan Stadium.

Harmon noted that the “Big House” is actually a quiet place to play, from his perspective:

Tom Herman praises Spartan Stadium atmosphere with slight jab to Michigan

While praising the Spartan Stadium atmosphere, Tom Herman took a small jab at Michigan in the process:

Ahead of Michigan State football’s season opener with Florida Atlantic on Friday night, the Owls head man Tom Herman had a press conference, previewing the matchup.

During that press conference, among the key quotes Herman had, he spoke on the atmosphere at Spartan Stadium, throwing a small shot at Michigan in the process.

“I just remember, this is no offense to their brothers in Ann Arbor, but that stadium in Ann Arbor holds 40,000 more people, and I thought the one in East Lansing was significantly louder and more disruptive for an offense.”

A note from the Owls’ head coach that will surely bring a smile to Spartan fans faces.

Camp Randall ranked in top 12 best CFB fan environments by 247Sports

Camp Randall remains at the top of college football’s best environments, but where do they fall in the top 12?

Camp Randall, home of the Wisconsin Badger football team was ranked within the top 12 of 247Sports’ college football stadiums for fan atmosphere. Home of the Badgers since 1917, Camp Randall has remained one of the top destinations for football fans in the country, ranking sixth on 247Sports’ list.

Also listed within the top 12 were Penn State, Nebraska, Michigan and Ohio State, with the Big Ten and SEC tying with the most teams on the list. Considering the sometimes frigid temperatures of the Midwest schools, it’s impressive that the Big Ten has as much support from the fans.

Here’s where each of the conference’s teams ranked on the final list:

The Big Ten has some of the loudest and rowdiest fan bases in the country. With those fans come some of the largest, most historic venues in the nation.

The Big Ten has three of the four largest stadiums in college football, all of which have a capacity greater than 100,000.

Wisconsin’s Camp Randall is an historic venue that cracks the top five of Big Ten stadium capacity. Even with recent upgrades, it still is one of the most classic, timeless venues in all of college football.

Since a 28-21 loss to Penn State on the road Oct. 19, Michigan’s offense has turned it up. The team is averaging 41.5 points and 422.8 total yards of offense over the past four games. This is the best quarterback Shea Patterson has played during his tenure at Michigan. Over the past two games, he is 41-for-58 for 750 yards, nine touchdowns, and one interception. In a 39-14 win over Indiana, his late interception was his first turnover in 17 quarters.

The Wolverines offense may be playing its best this season, but it hasn’t dealt with a juggernaut that is the Buckeyes defense. It ranks No. 1 in the nation in efficiency and scoring, allowing just 10.5 points per game. Michigan needs to be ready for defensive end Chase Young, who leads the NCAA with 16.5 sacks. He’s leading that category despite missing two games due to an NCAA violation.

Ohio State had a sloppy 28-17 win against Penn State last weekend, which was easily its least impressive victory of the season. However, Ohio State still locked up the Big Ten East and will play in the Big Ten Championship game. The Buckeyes were up 21-0 at the beginning of the third quarter, but three straight turnovers allowed the score to quickly flip to 21-17. While the focus has been on the play of quarterback Justin Fields the entire season, he had three turnovers in the game. Fields finished the game with 188 yards passing and two touchdowns. The most success the Buckeyes found last weekend was in the run game. J.K. Dobbins ran for 157 yards, while Fields ran for 68 yards. Dobbins has 1,446 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. His backup, Master Teague, has more rushing yards (751) than anyone on Michigan’s roster. Receivers Chris Olave, K.J. Hill, and Binjimen Victor have a combined 23 receiving touchdowns.

The Wolverines defense may not be as highly touted as the Buckeyes, but it still cannot be overlooked. Michigan’s defense has been playing well ever since an early season loss at Wisconsin. It’s currently the nation’s No. 5 defense, but the defensive tackles will have to limit the run and allow the linebackers to make plays.
