Notre Dame WR commit Jaden Greathouse to visit Texas on Nov. 12

Texas’ staff is not giving up on Jaden Greathouse.

Four-star wide receiver Jaden Greathouse is set to take a visit to Texas on Nov. 12 for its matchup against TCU.

Greathouse committed to Notre Dame back in June but Texas’ staff is not giving up on the talented pass catcher.

The Westlake product is listed as the No. 33 wide receiver in the nation and a top 50 player in the state of Texas in the 247Sports composite rankings.

At 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, Greathouse already has a college ready physical frame. His unique size and athletism give him an advantage against most defensive backs he sees. Greathouse is a matchup nightmare in red zone and jump ball opportunities.

Greathouse has led Westlake to three-straight state titles and looking for a fourth this season. The Chaperails continue to be one of the best high school football programs in America.

Texas advances to the Big 12 semifinals with a 5-3 win over TCU

Texas is one game away from the Big 12 tournament championship.

The Longhorns are in the driver’s seat in the Big 12 baseball tournament after taking down the top-seeded Horned Frogs 5-3.

Lucas Gordon followed up Pete Hansen’s tournament-opening gem with one of his own. He kept TCU off balance by attacking the strike zone early and often. Gordon went 7.2 innings while holding TCU to just two hits and one earned run.

Texas took control of the game from the jump. After a leadoff single by Douglas Hodo and Ivan Melendez reaching on a hit-by-pitch, Murphy Stehly smoked an 85 mph slider over the left-field wall to put the Horns up 3-0.

TCU scored a pair of runs in the middle innings to cut the Texas lead to 3-2 before insurance came in the eighth. A balk and an Austin Todd RBI single put Texas up 5-2, creating some breathing room for the late innings.

Tristan Stevens secured a four-out save to take home the victory.

The win puts Texas in excellent position to host a regional next week. The Horns RPI has jumped up from No. 21 to No. 9 in the past two days.

No. 7 Texas takes the series over No. 23 TCU with a 7-3 victory

No. 7 Texas beats No. 23 TCU to clinch a much-needed Big 12 series win.

No. 7 Texas took down No. 23 TCU 7-3 in Sunday’s rubber match behind three-hit performances from Silas Adrion and Austin Todd. Ivan Melendez added a home run and three RBI in the win.

Texas created separation in the bottom half of the seventh inning with two-out base hits from Doug Hodo and Ivan Melendez. This gave the Longhorns some much-needed breathing room down the stretch.

Lucas Gordan gave the Horns another solid start in his newfound Sunday role. The lefty allowed two runs in 5.2 innings pitched, scattering five hits and only walking one.

The Texas bullpen took care of business the rest of the way. Travis Stehle, Justin Eckhardt and Coy Cobb combined for 3.1 innings of one-run ball to cap off the ball game.

With the victory, Texas moves to 24-10 overall and 5-4 in Big 12 conference play.

No. 7 Texas beats No. 23 TCU 2-0 behind a gem from Pete Hansen

Pete Hansen turned in a magnificent start as Texas took game one over the Frogs.

It was a masterclass of pitching from both sides on Friday but it was Texas who came out on top over TCU, 2-0.

Pete Hansen was absolutely brilliant from start to finish in the ballgame. The Longhorns ace kept the Frogs offense off balance, attacking the strike zone early and often. Hansen spotted his fastball well along with a wipeout slider.

The only real trouble Hansen faced came in the sixth inning after TCU put runners on second and third with one out. A strikeout then this great backhand from Mitchell Daly got Texas out of the jam.

The lefty painted the corner with a 90 mph fastball to end the night with strikeout No. 12.

Two runs on four hits was all the Texas offense needed behind Hansen. Silas Ardoin and Mitchell Daly each drove in a run in the middle innings.

Tristian Stevens will take the mound for the Horns in game two on Saturday. Texas is looking to win back-to-back Big 12 series in front of a sold-out home crowd.

No. 7 Texas vs. No. 23 TCU: Preview and pitching matchups

No. 7 Texas and No. 23 TCU will battle it out in front of sold out crowds in Austin this weekend.

No. 7 Texas (22-9, 3-3) is set to welcome No. 23 TCU (20-9, 6-3) for a three-game series likely to have major Big 12 title implications. This marks Texas’ first conference home series of the season and a chance to get back above .500 in Big 12 play.

The Longhorns seem to be finding their stride after a dramatic series victory over Oklahoma last weekend. Texas scored 11 runs in the final three innings to take down the Sooners in Arlington.

TCU is entering the weekend looking to bounce back from dropping a home series to West Virginia last weekend. The Frogs will still be without ace Austin Krob who is dealing with an arm injury.

Here is a look at the probable pitching matchups for the weekend set:

Friday: Texas LHP Pete Hansen (5-0, 2.51) vs. TCU RHP Riley Cornelio (3-1, 3.10)

Saturday: Texas RHP Tristan Stevens (4-2, 3.16) vs. TCU RHP Marcelo Perez (2-1, 2.16)

Sunday: Texas LHP Lucas Gordon (2-1, 2.63) vs. TCU RHP Brett Walker (3-1, 4.89)

WATCH: Texas head coach Chris Beard absolutely rips his team after first round loss

Beard was furious with Texas’ showing against TCU in the Big 12 tournament.

Texas’ men’s basketball team has continued their downward spiral, and the wheels on the wagon seem to be getting awfully loose prior to the March Madness tournament which starts next week.

The Longhorns started the season ranked No. 5 in the nation, but have since been majorly exposed by teams with good shooting, athleticism, and a big man down low.

Throughout the season, Texas has rarely seemed to click. Early on it was understandable due to the new faces from the transfer portal learning to play together, but with the first round of the NCAA tournament in six days, it still looks like this team doesn’t mesh.

To make matters worse, Texas would have loved to win the conference tournament, or at least make a deep run in it to build some confidence.

However, they found themselves on the wrong side of the result after blowing a 20-point lead to TCU, losing their fifth out of their last eight games. Head coach Chris Beard was irate in his postgame press conference, calling out his team and their mindset.

According to ESPN’s bracketology expert Joe Lunardi, the Longhorns are currently projected as a No. 5 seed. If they show the inability to consistently score like they did against TCU and are unable to defend, it will be another early exit for Texas no matter what their seed is.

Texas vs TCU Game Preview

Why TCU Will Win

The Horned Frog defense has to take over right away.

There might not be a whole lot of scoring punch or consistency, but the defense has a way of slowing things down to its pace and then stuffing teams from the outside.

Texas is on a bit of a slide losing two of its last three games and needing overtime to get by Oklahoma. Its offense isn’t going off – it couldn’t hit a thing against the Texas Tech D – and it’s getting hammered way too hard on the boards.

TCU is solid on the offensive glass, but …

– Latest Polls AP | Coaches

Why Texas Will Win

TCU gets a whole lot of offensive rebounds because there’s a whole lot of misses.

The offense struggles to get to 70 points when it’s not owning the free throw line. It needs to attack the rim and hope for a whole lot of chances on the line.

Texas won 73-50 in the first meeting because TCU couldn’t do anything from three and hit just 12-of-21 chances on the free throw line.

One good Texas offensive burst at home should be enough to end this.

What’s Going To Happen

Can TCU generate any semblance of a scoring burst?

It’s a decent road team because its defense travels, but it’s too mediocre on the line and too bad from three to keep up after Texas gets out to a first half lead.

2022 College Football Schedules: All 131 Teams

TCU head coach Gary Patterson criticizes Texas’ use of RB Bijan Robinson

Gary Patterson had some criticism of Texas’ use of Bijan Robinson this weekend.

Yeah, yeah, TCU is in the past, and as Bill Belichick would probably say, “we’re onto Oklahoma”. However, not everyone seems to be over Saturday’s game.

Seeing Bijan Robinson and Zach Evans face-off, the top two running backs in the 2020 recruiting class, was a treat. The two combined for 339 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Only issue was Robinson’s 35 carries won Texas the game, while Gary Patterson has been ridiculed for only handing it off to Evans only 15 times. Even quarterback Max Duggan had more attempts with 16.

During his postgame presser, Patterson said Evans “was tired” and did not get many carries for that reason. Now, on Tuesday, with a road game against Texas Tech coming up, it’s still being discussed and reasoning has changed.

Firstly, it’s funny to think either Robinson or Evans are going to be playing college football for four years. The two are clear NFL talents and should declare for the draft at the end of the 2022 season. Millions of dollars will be made.

Second, Patterson changing reasons as to why Evans was not properly used shows he messed up. Going away from a running back averaging 7.5 yards per carry lost you the game. Texas sticking with and depending on one going for 6.2 yards per carry won them the game.

Saying Evans needs more touches in his final sentence really puts the cherry on top. Nobody is saying 35 carries is required, Gary. But more than a combined 30 in the past two losses could have flipped results.

Robinson will continue to get a high number of carries as well. The workload does not seem to phase the running back.

“I’m sore after every game,” Robinson said Monday. “But I feel good. I felt really good coming out of that game with that kind of workload. I’m just ready to go.”

With Oklahoma next up, another 35 touches could be on the way too. Sarkisian will keep pounding the rock if it means getting wins.

Texas Report Card: PFF grades from the TCU game

Take a look at which Longhorns graded well, and which ones were on the wrong end of the spectrum.

It wasn’t pretty, but Texas was able to escape Fort Worth with a win over TCU in Week 5. Continue reading “Texas Report Card: PFF grades from the TCU game”

WATCH: Texas players fly the Longhorn flag after win over TCU

Flying the flag in enemy territory!

While it was not the prettiest win over TCU, the Longhorns left Dallas victorious.

The passing game for Texas was in a major rut as passes were being dropped and throws were being missed, but when it came down to crunch time Bijan Robinson was there to save the day.

Robinson carried the ball a career high 35 times for 216 yards rushing and two touchdowns. His elusiveness helped the offense navigate down the field in a way that Casey Thompson and the passing game were simply unable to do so.

The team was able to pull out a 32-27 win over TCU in what was their first road win, which also ended the Horned Frogs’ winning streak agains Texas. Some Longhorns players celebrated in emphatic fashion after the game by waving the Texas flag around. It was likely inspired by the anger it caused Gary Patterson when SMU did it the week prior.

The defense and special teams both had bright spots that put the offense in position to score from the red zone, but the Longhorns had four drives in TCU territory end with a field goal. Nonetheless a win is a win, and now Texas is on to their most important game left on the schedule as they battle their heated rival, Oklahoma, in the Red River Showdown.

Both teams are now ranked as the Longhorns came in at No. 21 in the most recent AP Poll, and Oklahoma remained as the No. 6 team in the nation. Oklahoma is looking very fragile these days, as they narrowly have escaped Nebraska, West Virginia, and Kansas State by seven or less points in their last three wins.

The Longhorns have a reason to have some confidence, but should not let their recent success fill their heads up otherwise Steve Sarkisian will be starting his career off 0-1 against Oklahoma as the Texas head coach.
