Paul Finebaum is not giving Texas a chance against Alabama

Paul Finebaum expects an Alabama blowout against Texas.

Texas welcomes No. 1 Alabama to town for a Week 2 matchup of blue blood programs. While the teams have been trending in different directions for the better part of a decade now, it is always a treat when the Longhorns and Tide play.

ESPN and SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum is not giving Steve Sarkisian and Texas much of a chance against Alabama.

“The only thing that can stop Alabama from winning by four or five touchdowns is Nick Saban having a heart, and there’s no proof that he wants to go easy on Steve Sarkisian.”

Alabama is led by 2021 Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and future first-round draft pick Will Anderson. Nick Saban looks to continue his success against his former assistant coaches.

Texas has the opportunity to prove to the college football world it can play with the best in the country in front of a potential record-breaking home crowd. The Longhorns are a young team who are about to face a sizeable challenge on Saturday.

Texas vs. Alabama is one of CFB’s best nonconference games in 2022

The college football world is excited about Texas vs. Alabama.

Anytime two blue bloods get together for a nonconference matchup lots of excitement follows.

Texas will host Alabama during Week 2 of the college football season. There is a sense of familiarity between the programs. Steve Sarkisian and a few members of his coaching staff are former Alabama assistants. Three former Alabama players also made the move to Texas via the transfer portal over the past couple of offseasons.

247Sports put together a list of the best nonconference games for the 2022 season. Texas vs. Alabama checked in at No. 3 in the rankings.

The last time these two teams met was in the Rose Bowl Game, following the 2009 season, when Alabama head coach Nick Saban won his first national championship by defeating the Longhorns by a score of 37-21. Texas, however, leads the all-time series 7-1-1. Their last win over the Crimson Tide came in 1982 by a score of 14-12. Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian looks to rebound in 2022 after a disastrous 5-7 start to his tenure with Texas last season. Meanwhile, Alabama returns the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner, quarterback Bryce Young. Last year, Young threw for 4,872 yards with 47 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The Crimson Tide are currently a 15-point favorite in the contest.

FOX Sports picks up TV rights to Texas vs. Alabama

The highly anticipated Sept. 10 matchup between Texas and Alabama will take place on FOX Sports.

Anytime two blue blood programs face off in college football it builds plenty of excitement.

Nick Saban will bring his Crimson Tide to Austin to battle it out against his former offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian in Week 2 of the 2022 season.

The highly anticipated Sept. 10 matchup between Texas and Alabama will take place on FOX Sports. A potential Big Noon Kickoff time would mean an uncomfortably hot football game as temperatures will likely be close to triple-digits.

Alabama is fresh off an SEC championship and a national title loss to Georgia. The Tide returns the 2021 Heisman trophy winner Bryce Young and the best pass rusher in the nation in Will Anderson. Alabama is currently the odds on favorites to win the national championship in 2022.

Texas will have the chance to prove to the college football world the disappointing 2021 season is behind them with a strong showing in Week 2. Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy return along with a talented group of transfers to make up what should be an explosive offense. The defense will benefit from another year in Pete Kwiatkowski’s system.

How important is Texas’ game against Alabama in Week 2?

If Texas loses to Alabama, all they want to accomplish is still ahead of them.

Ever since Texas lost to Alabama in the 2009 National Championship game and entered into the football version of the great depression for the program, many fans have clamored for revenge.

However, as Texas has not been able to reach the College Football Playoff or the national championship game in that time, the revenge has not been able to happen.

The long-awaited matchup will finally take place on Sept. 10. The Longhorns will welcome the Crimson Tide to Austin in what is sure to be a sold-out game. Alabama will bring along Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young as well as elite pass rushers Will Anderson and Dallas Turner. Meanwhile, Texas has many questions but not many answers.

What does this Week 2 game mean for the Texas football program? While many fans will not want to hear this, at the end of the day it means no more than any other exhibition game.

The goal for this year is to win at least nine games and appear in the Big 12 championship game (which are always the minimum goals at Texas). Defeating Alabama would help with the first goal, but not with the second and ultimate goal.

For this reason, Longhorn fans should treat this game just like any other nonconference game. Winning it would be great, and they should strive to do so. But losing, even if in a bad fashion, would not be the end of the world. For evidence of this, remember that in 2016 USC faced Alabama to open the season and lost 52-6 in Dallas. They then went on to win 10 games and the Rose Bowl.

Don’t forget that this will be a young Texas team in Week 2. Their best football will still be ahead of them. Baptism by fire is precisely what they need.

If Texas loses to Alabama, all they want to accomplish is still ahead of them. Don’t lose sight of the forest through the trees.
