Baylor at Texas Tech picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas Tech 82, Baylor 77

Moneyline

In a Feb. 6 meeting, Baylor won 79-73 as a 6-point home favorite.

Texas Tech (-135) is 14-2 at home this season, and both of its losses have come in conference play. It has been favored in every home game this season.

Baylor is only 4-4 on the road and 1-4 as a road underdog.

You should like Texas Tech in this game, but you will get better odds with the spread since it is only 1.5 points.

PASS.

Against the spread

The Red Raiders are 7-9 ATS as home favorites, and they do have two 1-point home wins in conference play.

Baylor does not have a 1-point loss.

But if you like Texas Tech to win, you should like it to win by at least 2 points.

Oregon at Texas Tech odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Oregon at Texas Tech odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 13 Oregon Ducks (1-0) and the Texas Tech Red Raiders (0-1) meet Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Oregon vs. Texas Tech odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Oregon absolutely waffled Portland State of the FCS last week at Autzen Stadium, winning 81-7. UO racked up 729 total yards to just 200 yards for the Vikings, including just 52 passing yards for the visitors. The Ducks managed 348 rushing yards on 10.2 yards per attempt, committed only 2 penalties and won the turnover battle 1-0.

Texas Tech played in an epic battle in Laramie against Wyoming, falling 35-33 in 2OT. The Red Raiders actually outgained the Cowboys with 431 total yards to just 320 yards, going for 338 passing yards compared to only 149 for Wyoming. TTU was plus-1 in turnover margin and committed 7 total penalties.

These teams meet for the first time since Sept. 19, 1992, in Eugene, when the Ducks won 16-13. The Ducks also won 28-13 on the road on Sept. 14, 1991, the only other time these teams squared off.

Oregon is No. 13 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Oregon at Texas Tech picks and predictions

Prediction

Oregon 41, Texas Tech 31

Moneyline

Oregon (-250) will cost you 2 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s quite risky for a singular bet — especially when backing a road team. Even as part of a multi-team parlay, including the Ducks just sucks all of the value out of your ticket.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

OREGON -6.5 (-110) is a decent play, especially if this number remains under a flat 7.

Texas Tech had a difficult time stopping Wyoming QB Andrew Peasley last week, both on the ground and through the air. That’s good news for Oregon QB Bo Nix, who should find little resistance from the Red Raiders.

The Ducks will obviously face a little more defense than they did against the FCS Vikings, but it won’t be a lot more. If Texas Tech couldn’t stop Wyoming it is going to have a bear of a time trying to corral Oregon.

Over/Under

OVER 69 (-110) is worth a look, but go lightly.

The Ducks cashed the Over (65) on their own against Portland State last week, while the Red Raiders also cashed the Over (50) in their 2OT setback, although they needed the extra time to get there.

While I think Oregon doesn’t score nearly as many points as last week, this should still be a higher-scoring game into the 70s.

Texas Tech at Wyoming odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Texas Tech at Wyoming odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 24 Texas Tech Red Raiders will kick off the college football season against the Wyoming Cowboys Saturday. Kickoff from Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Texas Tech vs. Wyoming odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Red Raiders produced an 8-5 record in 2022 — the first season the program tallied more than 7 wins since 2013. Texas Tech would go on to defeat Ole Miss in the Texas Bowl last season, giving the program something to build off of entering the 2023 campaign. Texas Tech enters the season as the No. 24 ranked team in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

The Cowboys notched a 7-6 record for the 2nd straight year in 2022. Wyoming would sustain a narrow loss to Ohio in the Arizona Bowl to finish its season, earning the program a bowl game bid in 5 of the last 7 seasons.

Texas Tech at Wyoming picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas Tech 31, Wyoming 14

Moneyline

The Red Raiders should come out firing in Week 1 of the college football season, but I’ll PASS on their moneyline in this contest. Wagering on Texas Tech (-550) at the current odds isn’t worth the risk.

Against the spread

TEXAS TECH -14 (-110) is the play in this matchup as the Red Raiders should have an impressive aerial attack with QB Tyler Shough set to start under center. Wyoming doesn’t have the offense to keep pace with Texas Tech.

Over/Under

Nothing indicates that the Cowboys are going to have a much-improved offense from a season ago that averaged only 20.3 points per game (26th fewest in the nation), making UNDER 50.5 (-110) the pick in this game. The Red Raiders will jump out to an early lead and then take their foot off the gas in the second half to help the Under hit.

Despite that Texas (-190) is a top-5 team, the moneyline is not worth the play in this matchup.

The Longhorns are just 4-3 when playing on the road despite a 20-5 overall record. They are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Monday games and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games following an ATS win. Texas is also 0-4 ATS in its last 4 games following a win of 20 or more points.

Iowa State at Texas Tech picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa State 69, Texas Tech 64

Moneyline

You can bet IOWA STATE (-110) if you don’t want to worry about the single point on the spread. Texas Tech has yet to win a conference game this season and I don’t envision the Red Raiders getting their 1st on Monday.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

IOWA STATE -1.5 (+100) is the ideal way to bet the spread despite the Cyclones being the road team. There is slightly more value here than on the moneyline, but there is a chance that Iowa State wins and falls short of covering the spread.

The Cyclones are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following an ATS loss and the Red Raiders are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 129.5 (-110) in this Big 12 matchup.

Even though Iowa State allows only 60.5 points per game (12th in the nation), these 2 teams combine for 145.1 points per game.

Texas Tech has gone Over in 7 of its last 8 games following a win and 6 of its last 7 home games against a team with a losing road record (Iowa State is 2-4 in true road games).

Texas Tech at Kansas State picks and predictions

Prediction

Kansas State 79, Texas Tech 69

Moneyline

PASS.

Even though the Wildcats (-220) are expected to win, risking more than 2 times your potential return isn’t advised.

Against the spread

KANSAS STATE -4.5 (-115) is the lean with the Wildcats being the superior team. The Wildcats are 10-0 at home while the Red Raiders are 0-3 in true road games, and we only need Kansas State to win by at least 5.

Texas Tech is 1-7-1 ATS in its last 9 road games against a team with a winning home record. Meanwhile, Kansas State is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games overall and 6-1 ATS in its last 7 home games.

Over/Under

OVER 145.5 (-110) is an extremely intriguing bet in this Big 12 showdown. The Red Raiders average 76.1 points per game while the Wildcats average 78.4 points per game this season.

Texas Tech has gone 10-2-1 to the Over in its last 13 games overall, while Kansas State has gone 5-1 to the Over in its last 6 games against a team with a winning record.

Rankings courtesy of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Kansas hopes this game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders will be a bit easier after sneaking by Oklahoma State 69-67 in its conference opener Saturday. Although the Red Raiders are more of an offensive team than in years past, they are still a strong defensive team. Texas Tech is allowing only 62.7 points per game (ppg)(45th) while Kansas is scoring 78.1 ppg (63rd). Kansas is allowing only 64.5 ppg (79th) while Texas Tech is averaging 80.1 ppg (37th).

Neither team is going to have an advantage at the free-throw line as both sides struggle from the charity stripe. Kansas has hit 69.0% of its FT (245th) and Texas Tech is not much better hitting only 70.0% (179th).

Kansas at Texas Tech picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas Tech 75, Kansas 72

Moneyline

BET TEXAS TECH (+100).

Kansas is favored in this game, and it should be, but Texas Tech is a different team this season with a solid offense to match its stellar defense.

No one likes going to Lubbock to play. It is in the middle of nowhere and teams find it extremely hard to focus. Kansas, coming off a hard-fought win against Oklahoma State, will find this out the hard way. Kansas might win a 2nd national title in a row, but it will come after a loss in this one.

Against the spread

PASS.

Texas Tech is my pick to win the game, but I would rather make a wager on the moneyline with plus-money value. This number has gone down from 2.5 at open to 1.5, already moving towards a pick ’em, so you might as well take the plus money on the moneyline while you can — it may not be there at the tip.

Over/Under

BET OVER 141.5 (-110).

This is another line that has moved since it opened, starting at 139.5 this morning. It may continue to move up and could close at 142 or 143. I will take it now at the best number I can. Both teams can and should score in this one. So, give me the OVER 141.5 (-110) as my favorite play in this game.

Texas Bowl: Texas Tech vs. Ole Miss odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Texas Tech vs. Ole Miss Texas Bowl odds and lines, with expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-5) and Ole Miss Rebels (8-4) meet in the Texas Bowl Wednesday at the NRG Stadium in Houston. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Texas Tech vs. Ole Miss odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Texas Tech and Ole Miss meet for the 7th time, with the Rebels leading the all-time series 4-2. This will be the 4th time they’ve met in a bowl game, with Ole Miss winning the previous 3.

The Rebels topped the Red Raiders in 1986 and 1998 in the Independence Bowl. Ole Miss won 47-34 on Jan. 2, 2009 in the Cotton Bowl.

Neither of these teams are terribly affected by the opt-out and/or transfer portal list, which is nice. DB Miles Battle is the biggest loss for the Rebels, as he had 21 total stops, 4 passes defensed and an interception in 11 games.

The biggest loss for the Red Raiders is also in the defensive backfield, as DB Reggie Pearson Jr. hits the portal. He had 44 total stops, a half-sack, fumble recovery, 4 passes defensed and 2 interceptions in 12 games.

Texas Tech enters on a 3-game win and cover streak, and it is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 games overall. The Red Raiders ranked 13th in the regular season with 307.1 passing yards per game.

The Red Raiders are 89th in rushing defense, allowing 166.6 yards per game. That will be key, as Ole Miss RB Quinshon Judkins rushed for 1,476 yards and 16 TDs and RB Zach Evans added 899 yards and 8 TD. Tech will have no shot here if it can’t slow down the Rebs on the ground.

Ole Miss was halfway decent against the pass, allowing 218.0 yards per game to rank 57th in the nation. That’s also a key area of focus in this game.

Texas Tech vs. Ole Miss odds

Provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 8:54 p.m. ET.

  • Moneyline (ML): Texas Tech +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Ole Miss -170 (bet $170 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Texas Tech +3.5 (-110) | Ole Miss -3.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 72 (O: -108 | U: -112)

Texas Tech vs. Ole Miss picks and predictions

Prediction

Ole Miss 40, Texas Tech 35

Moneyline

OLE MISS (-170) isn’t priced out of line if you want to back the SEC school, and do not want to fiddle around with the points.

The Rebels are 3-0 all-time in bowl games against the Red Raiders, although the last meeting was in 2009, so it’s mostly a feel-good, but meaningless, stat.

Ole Miss is on a 3-game losing streak against Alabama, Arkansas and rival Mississippi State. The key is if the Rebels can get the run game going against a Red Raiders rush defense which struggles.

Against the spread

OLE MISS -3.5 (-110) comes with a little risk since the Rebels are on a skid, and Texas Tech +3.5 (-110) is on a 3-game heater.

The Red Raiders are 3-8 ATS in the past 11 bowl games, however, and 2-5 ATS in the past 7 tries against SEC teams.

Lane Kiffin’s Rebels are 10-3-1 ATS in the past 14 neutral-site games, while cashing at a 6-2-1 ATS clip in the past 9 bowl games. However, this comes with risk since the Rebs are just 2-5 ATS in the past 7 against winning teams, and 1-4-1 ATS in the past 6 games overall. Go lightly.

Over/Under

OVER 72 (-108) might be the best play in the Texas Bowl.

The Over is 16-6 in the past 22 neutral-site games for Texas Tech, while hitting in 8 of the previous 10 bowl games. And when TTU faces Ole Miss, we have had fireworks, with the Over cashing in the past 4 encounters.

While the Under is 5-0 in the past 5 bowls for Ole Miss, the Over is 5-2 in the past 7 games overall this season, which holds a lot more water.
