Texas’ offensive line had a very productive game against Houston

As we gather our thoughts after Texas’ 31-24 victory over Houston, it’s time we give the offensive line their flowers.

As we gather our thoughts after the Texas 31-24 victory over Houston, it’s time we give the offensive line their flowers.

The Longhorns have an elite offensive line, and on Saturday they further proved that theory. In 69 snaps, the five starters allowed just two sacks, one hurry, and four quarterback pressures.

Left tackle Kelvin Banks had the best day by far, not allowing any pressures, sacks, or hurries. Pro Football Focus gave Banks an 87.5 pass block grade, one of his best games this season so far.

Hayden Conner, DJ Campbell, and Jake Majors also had impressive games. The only lineman that didn’t have a decent game against Houston was right tackle Christian Jones. The senior tackle allowed one sack, one hurry, and two quarterback pressures. PFF gave Jones a 64.9 pass bock grade.

Though it might not seem like it after watching the game, the o-line had a very productive game and will need to continue their impressive play if quarterback Quinn Ewers is ruled out for multiple weeks.

Could we see Arch Manning on the field for Texas?

Should Ewers be sidelined for the next game vs BYU, could we see Arch Manning on the field?

The No. 8 Texas Longhorns escaped with a win over the Houston Cougars on Saturday, 31-24.

Though they won the battle, the war might be in question.

Quarterback Quinn Ewers scrambled on a broken play on 3rd down and injured his shoulder after taking a hard hit.

He was then taken to the medical tent followed by a visit to the locker room. Ewers was seen a bit later with his pads and helmet off and a brace, confirming his status for the rest of the game to be out.

In a press conference following the game, head coach Steve Sarkisian didn’t have an update for us, saying that we will know more tomorrow.

Sarkisian then said, “This team has a lot of confidence in Maalik and Arch”.

Although Maalik Murphy looked underwhelming, he was put into the game on short notice and wasn’t prepared. Murphy is a very intriguing prospect, standing at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds.

He has a missile for an arm and uses his legs as he needs to, but right now he is a very raw player and might not have his talents tuned right in order to carry this Texas team should Ewers be sidelined for multiple weeks.

Could we see Arch Manning finally play in a game for the Texas Longhorns? If Ewers is ruled out for next week and Murphy can’t get the offense going, Sark may throw Manning in the game to see if he can give the Horns a boost.

Firstly, we need to hope that Ewers’ injury isn’t significant and he can get back on the right track.

Texas Football: Key players to watch vs. Houston

Looking at key players to watch as No. 8 Texas travels to face Houston this weekend.

The No. 8 Texas Longhorns will be facing off against the Houston Cougars in Week 8. It’s Texas’ first game following their bye week after the heartbreaking loss to Oklahoma in Week 6.

Houston is not a very solid team. They allow more points than they score and do not have a consistent defense that can stop drives. The main component in beating this Cougars team will be stopping quarterback Donovan Smith.

Smith is one of the best players on the Houston roster. He’s thrown for 1,600 yards, 13 touchdowns, and holds a 66.2 completion percentage. Stopping Smith will be the main factor in shutting down their offense.

Here are a few players to look out for in Texas’ matchup against Houston this weekend.

Early odds released for No. 8 Texas at Houston

No. 8 Texas is the heavy favorite for the Houston matchup on Saturday.

The lines have been released for the Week 8 matchup for the Texas Longhorns against the Houston Cougars. It’s about what you would expect.

No. 8 Texas is favored by 23.5 points according to BetMGM. With a line like that, bettors obviously think the game will not be close.

Playing their first game since the Red River Rivalry loss, expect the Longhorns to come out firing on all cylinders. Texas’ biggest problem thus far has been finishing drives, and Houston is 127th in the country in points per quality possession allowed.

If the Longhorns cannot figure out ways to get in the endzone versus Houston, they might have a tough time down the stretch when they play tougher opponents.

Texas is averaging 35 points per game while Houston is allowing 31.3 points per game. However, Houston’s defense is weak, as evidenced by the 88 points surrendered in the last two games.

Expect a high-scoring game for the Longhorns when Texas faces Houston at 3:00 p.m. CT on Saturday.
