2024 four-star DB Jaden Allen decommits from Texas

Texas loses a four-star from the class of 2024.

Four-star defensive back Jaden Allen has backed off his commitment from Texas. Instead, Allen is reopening his recruitment with offers from Alabama, LSU and others.

247Sports composite rankings list Allen as the No. 18 cornerback and one of the top 300 players in the nation for the 2024 cycle. Allen is an excellent athlete, starring on both the football field and the track.

Allen is the younger brother of Texas sophomore defensive back B.J. Allen. He helped guide Aledo to a 5A Texas High School State Championship victory this season as a junior in 2022.

Alabama and USC have been pushing Allen in recent weeks. Expect Texas to keep pursuing Allen as the process plays out.

Texas’ 2024 class currently stands with three-star quarterback commit Trey Owens and four-star athlete Hunter Moddon. Steve Sarkisian and his staff are looking to build another top-five class.

Tashard Choice has No. 1 RB Jerrick Gibson considering Texas

Texas has become THE running back destination in college football.

Five-star running back Jerrick Gibson is taking a good look at the Texas Longhorns. Gibson told On3 Sports’ Chad Simmons that it’s Tashard Choice who deserves recognition for Texas’ role in the recruitment.

The No. 1 running back in the 2024 class said the following to Simmons.

(Tashard Choice) is one of the big reasons I’m considering Texas. Just his personality, his humor, and everything he’s building with the running backs is amazing.

Gibson is far from the first running back to see the appeal in playing for Texas. Jaydon Blue and Cedric Baxter followed Bijan Robinson to Austin after starring at the high school level.

The IMG Academy running back would be the second Florida ball carrier to join the Longhorns should he choose to wear burnt orange. Presently, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee appear to be the main competition according to 247Sports.

Texas can do itself a favor if it performs well and defeats Alabama given Gibson’s affinity for the SEC.

Which Texas players make the All-Underrated Big 12 football team?

We look at ten of the most underrated players in the Big 12 conference.

Believe it or not, the Big 12 has star power. Some players simply aren’t receiving due credit.

2022 saw a host of TCU Horned Frogs and Kansas State Wildcats emerge as game changers. Max Duggan checks in atop that list.

Duggan went from Game 1 backup to the Heisman ceremony at season’s end. TCU’s 12-1 season gave the Senior quarterback the stage to earn the Davey O’Brien Award after winning Big 12 offensive player of the year.

This year several players enter the 2023 season under the radar. The four conference newcomers are just now getting the opportunity to be recognized on a national scale. Albeit, Cincinnati and Houston simply might not possess the talent for their national television exposure to matter.

Here’s a look at ten of the most underrated players in the Big 12 conference.

Texas WR Xavier Worthy makes On3 Sports’ list of Top 10 receivers

On3 Sports expects big things from Xavier Worthy.

Xavier Worthy could be in store for a bounce back season for the Texas Longhorns. On3 Sports listed Worthy as one of their top receivers for the 2023 season.

Worthy’s inclusion is no surprise, though he’ll have plenty to prove over the next year. Some made too much out of his noncommittal comments about his return before the Alamo Bowl. Nevertheless, Worthy is still one of the key members of the team. He will need to overcome his drop issues and adjust on downfield passes this season.

It comes as no surprise that Marvin Harrison Jr makes the list. Yesterday I opined that Harrison would be the best returning receiver in college football. It looks like others view the receiver in high regard.

Here’s a look at On3 Sports’ Top 10 receivers for the 2023 season.

Elite 2026 QB Julian Lewis sets Texas visit date

2026 QB Julian Lewis is set to visit Texas in March.

2026 quarterback Julian Lewis is already getting the attention from the top programs in college football as a sophomore in high school.

Lewis lit it up as a freshman at Carrolton High School in Georgia, throwing for over 4,000 yards and 48 touchdowns.

On3 Sports reports Lewis has put together his spring visit schedule. Lewis is set to have a busy semester taking a look at potential schools.

  • Florida State (March 6)
  • Georgia (March 16)
  • Texas (March 24)
  • Alabama (March 30)
  • USC (April 8)

Texas is recruiting the quarterback position exceptionally well under Steve Sarkisian. The Longhorns have stacked an uber-talented assortment of signal callers with Maailk Murphy, Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning over the past few years.

Lewis seems to be the next big thing on the recruiting front. Texas among other programs is getting a head start in Lewis’ recruitment.

Texas among college football’s most lethal rosters for 2023

Texas fields one of the best rosters in college football for 2023.

Texas took strides in the right direction with an improved year two under Steve Sarkisian. The Longhorns saw a three-win jump in the win column, going from 5-7 to 8-5.

Another step forward in 2023 could have Texas closer to a Big 12 title and College Football Playoff birth.

247Sports named Texas as one of the 10 “most lethal rosters for 2023.” Texas came in at No. 5 on the list, behind only Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State and LSU.

Given the wealth of talent that has been signed in Austin over the last five recruiting cycles, the Longhorns’ overall record doesn’t match up. That’s part of the reason this program has had a revolving door at head coach since Mack Brown’s decision to walk away. Boosters are hoping that coach Steve Sarkisian is the right man to lead Texas back to the national spotlight in 2023 with a top class coming in, highlighted by several five-stars. This isn’t Arch Manning’s team yet, but it will be down the road.

Recruiting at a high level is nothing new for Texas, but the wins have not correlated in recent years. Steve Sarkisian hopes his 2023 team is the one that pushes Texas back into national contention.

Where Texas lands in college football’s top games for 2023

We rank the biggest college football games for 2023.

We are nearly as far away from football season as possible, but early projections are trickling in for the 2023 season. On Tuesday, FanDuel dropped early betting lines for some of college football’s biggest games.

As you can imagine, Texas was included among some of the more high profile games. Blue blood battles are worthy of plenty of hype, and the Longhorns face two away from Austin. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and company face Alabama in Tuscaloosa before the annual Red River battle with Oklahoma.

Earlier FanDuel favored Alabama by 8 points against Texas. The site gave the Longhorns a 4-point advantage over the Sooners. Later the Oklahoma line climbed in Texas’ favor to 5 points.

Let’s look at our early expectation for each of the featured games and rank them.

Texas is in the early lead for 2024 five-star WR Micah Hudson

Texas sits in good shape for five-star WR Micah Hudson.

Five-star Micah Hudson is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the class of 2024.

247Sports composite rankings list Hudson as the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 7 overall player in the nation. The five-star has 35 offers from some of the top programs in college football.

Hudson is one of the most skilled high school pass catchers in the 2024 cycle. He possesses great hands and sharp route-running ability that translates well to the next level.

He enjoyed one of the most productive junior seasons in Texas High School Football, hauling in 65 passes for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns, earning district MVP honors in the process.

Ohio State, Texas and Texas Tech are three schools in heavy pursuit of Hudson so far. He made it down to Austin for a recent visit to Texas’ junior day event in January.

The On3 Sports recruiting prediction machine has Texas in the early lead for Hudson.

Iowa State AD looks forward to leaving Longhorn Network

Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard implies Texas “can’t leave soon enough.”

We’re over a decade into the Longhorn Network but some haven’t accepted that reality. 365 Sports and Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard discussed playing on the Longhorn Network as a member of the Big 12.

Craig Smoak asked Pollard what his thoughts were on having to play on Texas’ personal network. Pollard responded, “Can’t leave soon enough.”

There is a legitimate gripe that Longhorn Network isn’t worth the purchase for non-Texas fans. It isn’t the first significant matchup Texas and Iowa State have played on the channel. Nevertheless, the Cyclones stand to lose a sizable allowance apart from the Longhorns moving forward.

To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with Pollard refusing the monetary relevance that comes with playing in the same conference as Texas. Even so, despite the brave face the league puts on, losing the Longhorns from the conference is going to hit Iowa State and others in the pocketbook.

Here’s a look at how some responded to Pollard’s statement.
