After 2024 5-Star ATH Terry Bussey’s signing, here are Texas A&M’s Top 10 All-Time commits

After 2024 5-Star athlete Terry Bussey’s signing, where does he rank among Texas A&M’s Top 10 All-Time commitments?

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class is now complete, as head coach Mike Elko finished things out during Wednesday’s National Signing Day, headlined by the signing of long-time commit, 5-star athlete Terry Bussey, followed by 3-star offensive tackle Robert Bourdon and 4-star wide receiver Ashton Belton-Roman.

Finishing with the now 16th-ranked recruiting class according to 247Sports, Elko has already proven this recruiting prowess after two solid seasons as Duke’s head coach and his four seasons as A&M’s defensive coordinator under Jimbo Fisher have aided in his success in developing lasting relationships.

Terry Bussey’s signing is by far one of the program’s most significant recruiting victories for any head coach, as the No. 1-ranked athlete in the class has a chance to have a Travis Hunter-like collegiate career as Elko recently stated that he will start out as a cornerback, but receive snaps on offense throughout his Aggie career.

“For us, he’s going to come in at corner, but he’ll certainly have a role with the ball in his hand in the return game and as a specialist in some situations.”

So, where does Bussey stand among Texas A&M’s All-Time high school commitments? Here are the Top 10 prospects to sign with Texas A&M over the last two decades, per 247Sports.

4-star defensive end Lugard Edokpayi unveils his top 5

Lugard Edokpayi has an official top five.

Lugard Edokpayi has announced his top five as the four-star defensive lineman from Maryland is looking to wind down his recruitment.

A 6-foot-6, 215-pound prospect from Bishop McNamara (District Heights, Maryland), he is an outstanding athlete. Edokpayi is a two-way player who plays the rare dual roles of wide receiver and defensive end. He also plays basketball as a forward.

According to ESPN, he is a four-star recruit as a defensive end. On3 ranks him as No. 28 player in the nation.

This week, he announced a top five of Florida State, Maryland, Minnesota, Rutgers and Texas A&M.

On Saturday, he took a visit to Rutgers for their game against No. 1 Ohio State.

As a prospect, Edokpayi is wildly athletic. A former basketball player, he has very strong footwork. His length and explosiveness make him intriguing as a prospect and he has big upside potential at the Power Five level.

Four-star Eddy Pierre-Louis announces an impressive final five

Eddy Pierre Louis is down to a final five.

Eddy Pierre-Louis has announced his top five, with the Florida offensive lineman including several prominent programs in his final cutdown.

A four-star recruit according to ESPN and Rivals, Pierre-Louis is a monster offensive tackle prospect from Tampa Catholic (Tampa, Florida). He moves very well for checking in at 6-foot-3 and 315 pounds, finishing off his blocks to the whistle.

Rivals ranks him as the second-best guard prospect in the nation and the No. 26 recruit overall.

The final five from Pierre-Louis includes Miami, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Central Florida and Oregon.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediciton Machine, UCF is a near lock to land Pierre-Louis at 87.1 percent. Florida, who didn’t make the player’s cutdown, is second at 4.9 percent.

Oklahoma is third at 1.6 percent.

This offseason, Pierre-Louis has done a nice job of reshaping his body. He cut weight and is looking lighter on his feet.

And to that end, check out this video of Pierre-Louis running track this spring for Tampa Catholic.

Unreal.

How does Texas A&M’s recruiting spending compare to other Power Five schools?

In USA TODAY’s ranking of the top Power Five schools in college football recruiting budgets, the Aggies finished among the top spenders over the last six years.

In the landscape of college football, you’ll only be as good as the talent on the field. The most innovative coaches and high-end facilities will only take you so far, as it’s the players on the field that truly move the needle. If you want the best recruits, you better be prepared to invest, or so the saying goes.

USA TODAY Sports recently put that belief to the test, as they ranked each Power Five school by the amount of money they’ve invested in their recruiting efforts since 2017. While this list excluded some private schools in their data, you don’t need to be an expert to properly guess who rounds out at the top.

Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee ranked as the top three schools in recruiting spending and were the only three programs to allocate over $10 million in total to their efforts. Not far below was Texas A&M, who ranked fifth with roughly $9.4 million total dedicated to recruiting spending in the last six years.

That gives the SEC a total of four schools in the top 10 in recruiting spending in the last few years, and once Texas joins the conference in 2024, it will equate to half of those programs hailing from one conference alone. Interestingly enough, Ohio State did not crack the top 10 despite all their success in recruiting. The Buckeyes spent less than the likes of FloridaOregonLSUAuburn, and even Rutgers.

Truth be told, it’s not a shock that the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide are among the Power Five’s leaders in spending. After all, these are two programs that are regularly in the College Football Playoff conversation and are seemingly annual contenders for the national championship.

The school that will continue to draw conversation among this list, of course, is the Maroon and White.

The 2021 recruiting cycle played a major factor in A&M’s ranking in the top five schools in spending after the Aggies dedicated $691,591 to help land the best recruiting class. Of course, like in any business decision, you need to see the return on that investment and last year’s 5-7 regular season campaign was underwhelming nonetheless.

Couple last year’s performance with the amount of money being paid to Jimbo Fisher, and you get an equal amount of media coverage focused on the Aggies’ financials as their play on the gridiron.

But last year’s struggles could prove to be this year’s triumphs, as another year of experience for that top recruiting class should amount to a promising 2023 season for the Aggies. It pays to have the best talent on the field, and the truth of the matter is that this A&M roster is much too talented to put together back-to-back disappointing seasons.

As the saying goes, you need to spend money to make money. Or in the case of these Power Five schools, you need to spend money to get wins. This list only shows that the Aggies are committed to recruiting top talent in order to translate to success on the field.

A&M Exodus: Potential Texas target WR Chris Marshall hits transfer portal

Nation’s No. 1-ranked linebacker decommits from Texas A&M; USC is in the hunt

The decommitment of linebacker Anthony Hill from Texas A&M presumably puts #USC and Lincoln Riley in play for the 5-star prospect.

If you regularly read Trojans Wire, first of all: Thank you. Second, if you read our site regularly, you would know that we mentioned the distinct possibility that Lincoln Riley and USC can fatten up on a likely parade of Texas A&M transfers.

Texas A&M lost to Florida this past weekend to fall to 3-6. The Aggies are unlikely to make a bowl game, which means that freshmen on the team (and other classes as well) won’t have to attend bowl practice sessions in December. This certainly makes it easier for them to transfer out of the program sooner rather than later.

Now, however, we have a non-transfer situation in recruiting. A high-profile linebacker just decommitted from Texas A&M.

We’ll fill you in on the details:

Texas A&M hosting top prospect Walter Nolen during Alabama game

Texas A&M’s Saturday against Alabama is even more important than a normal matchup against the Crimson Tide would be: The Aggies are hosting the top prospect in the nation.

Texas A&M is pulling out the big guns in its recruitment of top prospect Walter Nolen.

The Powell (Tenn.) High School defensive lineman, ranked the No. 1 recruit in the 2022 class on the 247Sports Composite, is in College Station for the Aggies’ matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Nolen listed Texas A&M in his top three in August along with Georgia and Tennessee. From some reports, including from On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons, the Aggies are the favorite.

“Based on the info I’m getting right now, the Aggies are likely the school everyone else is chasing,” Simmons said.

Nolen tweeted “Let’s go #Gigem this week” on Thursday ahead of the tip.

Through six games, Nolen has 42 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss and four sacks this season, according to MaxPreps.

Texas A&M is hoping the 6-foot-4, 325-point big will bring his dominance to their university.

But this weekend may be high-risk, high-reward — as electric as the atmosphere will be in the game against Alabama, the Crimson Tide has been several levels above every team except Georgia. Can the Aggies play them well enough to impress Nolen and show him the potential of the team moving forward?

It’s as big a weekend as Texas A&M football will have this season, for multiple reasons.

Notre Dame Football Offers ‘22 OLB Jaishawn Barham

Jaishawn Barham of DeMatha Catholic in Maryland announced a scholarship offer.

Early on Monday we learned that Notre Dame had offered a scholarship to 2022 outside linebacker Gabe Powers of Ohio, which we discussed on FIW.

As it turns out, Powers wasn’t the only outside linebacker to receive an offer from Brian Kelly and company on Monday as Jaishawn Barham of DeMatha Catholic in Maryland announced a scholarship offer.

Barham is listed a little thicker than Powers but not quite as tall, coming in at 6-3, 230 pounds per 247Sports.

Notre Dame is the 15th scholarship offer Barham has received as the Irish join Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Virginia, Virginia Tech and a few others to offer.

Barham is the eleventh player Notre Dame has offered a scholarship to in the 2022 recruiting class.
