Some familiar faces make Baseball Americas’ Preseason All-American team

Baseball America names Aggies’ Jace LaViolette and Braden Montgomery to their Preseason All-American teams.

Once is a chance, twice is a coincidence, and three times is a pattern. Jace LaViolette and Braden Montgomery pull off the hat trick after being named to their third Preseason All-American team. After making the Perfect Game and D1Baseball Preseason All-American Teams, Baseball America named both to the second team in their publication.

LaViolette was named to every All-Freshman team he was up for last season and broke the freshman home run record and transfer Braden Montgomery was a Pac 12 All-Conference selection en route to a College World Series appearance. If things pan out how for Coach Jim Schlossnagle both will be part of a return to Omaha.

We are quickly approaching opening day, and the Aggies are ready to welcome McNeese State to Olsen Field on February 16th.

Projecting the most impactful transfer for each SEC baseball program for the 2024 season

The SEC has no shortage of talent on the baseball diamond. See the most impactful transfer for every SEC team in 2024.

The SEC has some of the best talent in the country when it comes to baseball. Each year, the conference provides some of the top players in the MLB draft. Not to mention, the SEC is typically well-represented in the College World Series.

Needless to say, it is always interesting to see which players burst onto the scene. Some of the best-of-the-best come from the southeast. It is a baseball hotbed for some of the nation’s top high school prospects and transfers.

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at 14 incoming transfers that have the potential to have a breakout season in 2024.

Sophomore phenom Jace LaViolette talks baseball will The Schoch Factor

Texas A&M star baseball player Jace LaViolette links up with D1Baseballs Stephen Schoch to discuss everything about Aggie baseball.

Texas A&M baseball will enter the 2024 season as one of the most talented teams in the nation and will lean on Jace LaViolette to take them to the promised land. That burden is well deserved as Jace closed out his first year with the freshman home run record and one of the most feared hitters in the SEC.

An intriguing MLB prospect with size and power, he has been on several top preseason All-American teams. D1Baseball has him on their All-American first team and invited him to The Schoch Factor Podcast to talk about his experience at Texas A&M.

One of the interview’s highlights was when LaViolette explained how a trip to Coach Jim Schlossnagle’s office helped change his outlook on the season after a rough start.

“I sat down with a coach.. he took me up to his office and he told me one thing and it was if you live in the future, it causes anxiety and you live in the past, it cause depression, so live in it, live in the present and whenever he said that I was like dude like I know you’re not supposed to be like a motivational speaker or anything but this kind of resonates really like deep what I’m going through.”

This was an awesome interview with a ton of great insight about Jace and the Aggie baseball program. Stephen with D1Baseball did a great job keeping the conversation going, and it was well worth listening to the entire interview.

We are quickly approaching opening day and the Aggies are ready to welcome McNeese State to Olsen Field on February 16th.

Texas A&M Baseball lands two on the D1Baseball Preseason All-American Team

D1Baseball names Aggies’ Jace LaViolette and Braden Montgomery to their Preseason All-American teams.

The top-ranked Aggies have a lot of hype coming into the 2024 season, being ranked in the top 10 or at least near the top 10 in most preseason polls. Leaving out the question mark that is pitching, the team is chalked full of talent and if they can gel early, there is a good chance the College World Series is a real possibility.

Leading the Maroon & White in the spring will be Collegiate National teammates sophomore Jace LaViolette and junior Braden Montgomery. Both are highly rated across the board and D1Baseball named both to their All-American team selection with LaViolette making the first team and Montgomery on the second.

Texas A&M just misses the top 10 in Baseball Americas’ Top 25 Poll

Texas A&M lands just outside the top 10 the Baseball America Top 25 poll.

You know the baseball season is getting ready to start when every outlet begins putting out their respective preseason rankings and team previews. So far, the Aggie baseball team has landed in the top ten in two polls, and this is the first ranking them outside of the Top 10, instead landing  at No. 11.

To still be ranked this high shows how much the experts believe in third year head coach Schlossnagle and the talent of this team. Especially with how much of a question pitching was the whole season last year. Baseball America pointed this out A&M in their Top 25 preview.

A&M has depth and talent on the mound, now it will be about finding the right combination.

A&M has premium talent to work with, but few of its pitchers have a lot of experience in big roles in the SEC.

We are quickly approaching opening day and the Aggies are ready to welcome McNeese State to Olsen Field on February 16th.

Aggie Newcomer Gavin Grahovac named Preseason SEC Freshman of the Year

Aggie outfielder Gavin Grahovac named as D1Baseball’s Preseason SEC Freshman of the Year

With the Aggies having the fourth-ranked freshman class headed into the 2024 season, seeing one of them being named the Preseason SEC Freshman of the Year is not surprising. Texas A&M outfielder and California native Gavin Grahovac received this recognition from D1Baseball.

The No. 2 outfielder in California was the highlight of Coach Jim Schlossnagle’s freshman class, especially once Grahovac pulled his name from the MLB draft. He has good size for an incoming freshman and shows potential to be a dangerous power hitter once he gets acclimated to college play. Below is part of his player profile from Perfect Game.

Athletic frame with broad shoulders and physical strength proportioned well throughout frame. Runs well, posted a 6.78 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, fields the ball to side, comes through it well and utilizes a shorter arm path through the back, one hop accuracy to the intended base with quickness to arm stroke; similar arm action on throws across the infield, higher slot on throws, shows carry across diamond and will continue to refine overall actions. Right-handed hitter, begins with a wide and even base, has moving parts in lower half working into contact. Above average bat speed already through the zone, shows a handle for the barrel with a full swing path through the zone. Loud contact off the barrel, went deep out to left-center field in BP and picked up an opposite field double in live action; combination of bat speed and strength at impact stand out, easy power projection moving forward. Excellent student.

We’ll finally get a look at Gavin when the Aggies open the season against McNeese State on February 16th at Olsen Field.

‘We come here every day wanting to get better because we enjoy it’ Jace LaViolette previews the 2024 baseball season

Here’s what Texas A&M outfielder Jace LaViolette had to say during the 2024 season preview.

Sophomore outfielder Jace LaViolette is coming off a record-setting freshman year where we got to witness him break a 30-plus year homerun record and become one of the top hitters in the SEC. We’ve been hearing a lot about how well this team has gelled together and LaViolette lit up when talking about how much they are enjoying each other.

“it’s a special team that’s I don’t even know how to put into words what this team is like it’s a blast to come here every single day and it was like we clicked from the moment we all got here.  It was it was weird it’s a strange dynamic of people but we all just bond
very very well together it’s a lot of fun”

‘The culture of the program is really strong’ Coach Jim Schlossnagle previews the 2024 baseball season

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle had to say during the 2024 season preview.

The spring is for baseball, and we are approaching opening day. The Aggies are ready to welcome McNeese State to Olsen Field on February 16th. Aggieland is excited to see what the 2024 squad will bring to the table. Coach Jim Schlossnagle spent the first few minutes discussing his approach to building his and the program.

“Somebody said the other day to me that you don’t build programs anymore you build teams I don’t think that’s true I think you still you have to have you have to have a core set of beliefs that hey this is how we’re going to operate”
The hot topic of the day was how the pitching will improve and what are some of the things what he’s seen as an improvement standpoint through fall ball.
“I mean if we throw enough strikes like we did in those two fall games if we fill the strike zone up if we continue to do that in the spring then I like I think our pitching will be better than it has been in terms of strike throwing ability and performance. Will it be SEC Elite remains to be seen”

Below, you can watch the full presser with Coach Scholssnagle

Texas A&M Baseball 2024 season preview

Baseball is a few weeks away and the Aggies have retooled for a run at the College World Series

Before we know it, spring will be here, and Olsen Field will be packed with fans eager to see the new-look Aggie baseball team. There will be a plethora of new but talented players on the squad this year who arrived in Aggieland through various venues due to diligent recruiting from head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s staff.

Let’s start with the elephant in the room that is pitching. If you watched any number of Aggie baseball games last season, you witnessed countless games where A&M would have but could not get out of the inning. Even more frustrating, they would have two outs be up in the count, then still manage to give up runs. To address these issues, coach Schlossnagle brought in the innovative Max Wiener as the new pitching coach to replace Nate Yeskie, who left for LSU.

Wiener was named one of Baseball America’s top ten assistants and, before joining the Aggies, helped develop a number of the Seattle Mariners’ pitching prospects. There are some questions about how his system will translate to the college game, but he is making a solid impression on the team so far.

“It’s awesome I love that guy. He’s the best I’ve never seen someone approach pitching in the way that he does, and I love it. He makes throwing fun.” – Branden Montgomery

Next, Texas A&M needed to be aggressive in replacing the beloved Aggies Hunter Haas, Trevor Warner, and Jack Moss, who all protected the infield at Olsen last season. The staff at A&M hit the transfer portal hard, bringing in the likes of Shortstop Ali Camarillo and the No. 1 overall transfer in Stanford’s utility player Braden Montgomery. They did such a bang-up job that the NCAA has them ranked as the No. 4 transfer class leading into the 2024 season.

Next, we must touch on who is coming back and the crown jewel of the returners is phenom Jace LaViolette. The 6’4″, 230-pound sophomore operated the right field for most of his freshman season, and once he got acclimated, he quickly became one of the most feared hitters in the SEC. His 21 home runs broke a 36-year-old Texas A&M record, while his .835 slugging percentage was good enough to lead the league. He will be expected to be one of the leaders of the 2024 squad with the goal of returning to the College World Series.

We will round it out with the top-notch job the staff did on the recruiting trail for the incoming class. Most baseball outlets believe the Aggies have multiple incoming freshmen that could have an immediate impact.

Pitchers Isaac Morton and Kaiden Wilson should be able to work into the lineup throughout the season, but Gavin Grahovac is one for everyone to keep their eye on. He is a powerful hitter in the same vein as LaViolette and could have a chance to make a run at the freshman record that Jace just broke. Perfect Game has him ranked as the 40th-ranked prospect in the Top 75 freshman and Coach Schlossnagle got an absolute steal once Grahovac removed his name from the 2023 MLB Draft.

Texas A&M is ranked in the top ten in most preseason polls, which means they will have some early hype to live up to. Given how well Coach Schlossnagle had the team rolling his first season if they can get the pitching up to par, they will be one of the most dangerous teams in the nation to face. Opening day is a few weeks out and we are eager to see how much the team has improved. Personally, I believe this team is destined for Omaha.
