Texas A&M LB Edgerrin Cooper is named to the Walter Camp All-American Team

Texas A&M junior LB Edgerrin Cooper is named to the Walter Camp All-American Team.

Edgerrin Cooper went on a tear this season and was the best Linebacker in the SEC and possibly the nation. He’s been racking up the accolades all year long and there might be a few more before Bowl season is over.

Below is a brief history of the foundation:

This is the 134th edition of the Walter Camp All-America team, the nation’s oldest college football All-America team.  Twenty-five players were selected to the first team by the 131 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.  In addition, 25 players were selected to the Second Team.

Congratulations to Cooper on another well-deserved honor.

Below, you can see the stats through 12 games:

  • 84 Tackles
  • 17 Tackles for Loss (Led the SEC)
  • 8 sacks
  • 2 forced fumbles

The 2023 Walter Camp All-Americans will be honored at the Foundation’s annual Awards Weekend on March 15-16, 2024, in New Haven.

Texas A&M LB Edgerrin Cooper is named to the CBS Sports All-American Team

Texas A&M junior LB Edgerrin Cooper is named to the CBS Sports All-American Team

Standout Aggie Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper at some point throughout the year, was named to almost every All-“You Name It” team or defensive player finalist list. Well, almost every list, but we’ll leave that snub for another day.

With Cooper flying up the draft boards after his fantastic season it’s only right that he is named to the 2023 CBS Sports All-America team. The junior was tab to the first team with SEC defensive player of the year, Dallas Turner, and NC State’s Payton Wilson.

Congratulations to Cooper on another well-deserved honor.

Below, you can see the stats through 12 games:

  • 84 Tackles
  • 17 Tackles for Loss (Led the SEC)
  • 8 sacks
  • 2 forced fumbles

Adam Silverstein over at CBS gave a brief account of their process to curate the list and ultimately chose the teams:

With the 2023 college football season in the books, our panel of experts was faced with plenty of difficult decisions when convening to select the 2023 CBS Sports / 247Sports All-America team. Experts from CBS Sports and 247Sports joined forces once again to honor the players who shined the brightest on the gridiron over the last three months.

Unanimous selections generally play a significant role in building these teams; however, this year, only three players received that honor on the postseason team: Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II, Notre Dame offensive lineman Joe Alt and Iowa punter Tory Taylor. In fact, Alt is the lone repeat first-team selection from the 2022 CBS Sports / 247Sports All-America team. Along with Taylor, they represent two of 10 players who were 2023 CBS Sports / 247Sports Preseason All-America first-team selections.

Big 12 Bowl Projections: Sooners face Pac-12 power in latest projections from USA TODAY Sports

According to the latest Big 12 bowl projections, the Oklahoma Sooners take on the Utah Utes.

The final two weeks of the regular season are upon us. It’s crunch time for the conference title and College Football Playoff contenders. While the playoff is out of reach for the Sooners, they still have an outside shot at a Big 12 title game berth.

They’ll need to take care of business against BYU and TCU over the next nine days. But if the Sooners finish strongly and get a little help, one final trip to Arlington is certainly in the cards.

But at the moment, they’re on the outside looking in, and that affects where they’re heading in USA TODAY Sports’ latest bowl projections.

Let’s take a look at where the Big 12’s projected postseason landing spots.

Edgerrin Cooper named as a Bednarik Award semifinalist

Junior linebacker Edgerrin Cooper was among the semifinalists for this prestigious award.

It was a shock to many that All-American caliber linebacker Edgerrin Cooper was snubbed off the 2023 Butkus Award Semifinalist list considering the number he’s put up so far this season. Showing no signs of slowing down Cooper brushed that off and led the team with 11 tackles.

Cooper took a huge leap forward this season and his draft stock is shooting up as the season is going along. I’d expect to see him named as a finalist when the time comes with a strong case as the winner.

Below you can see the stats through 10 games:

  • 70 Tackles
  • 16 Tackles for Loss
  • 7 sacks
  • 2 forced fumbles

With two games left, Cooper still has a great chance to hit some milestones that would look great for any postseason awards. Congratulations to the junior linebacker Edgerrin Cooper on him making it to the stage of the selection process.

Five storylines to watch as Texas A&M faces Ole Miss in Week 10

Texas A&M’s O-line will have their hands full, while Jimbo Fisher seeks his first win against Lane Kiffin since he was hired by Ole Miss.

Texas A&M (5-3, 3-2 SEC) didn’t play a perfect game in last weekend’s win against South Carolina, but it was a much-needed jolt to steer the season back on track. Make no mistake, their Week 10 opponent will be much more daunting.

The Aggies head on the road to Oxford to face No. 11 Ole Miss (7-1, 4-1 SEC) on Saturday in what may be one of A&M’s toughest matchups yet. Lane Kiffin’s Rebels boast one of the conference’s most potent offenses, as they score at a clip of 38.9 PPG.

Meanwhile, their formidable defense allows only 21.4 PPG to their opponents, which ranks 43rd in the country.

That spells for a daunting road matchup for the Aggies, as Jimbo Fisher continues to seek his first true SEC road win since 2021. On top of that, Ole Miss took the last matchup between these two in a 31-28 win last year in College Station, moving Kiffin to 2-0 against Fisher since being hired by Ole Miss in 2020.

Here are five storylines to watch as Texas A&M heads on the road to face Ole Miss in Week 10.

‘We’re locking in and trying to finish this season off strong.’ Max Johnson, Shemar Turner, and Trey Zuhn look ahead to facing Ole Miss

Max Johnson, Shemar Turner, and Trey Zuhn spoke on A&M’s goal to close out the season strong, starting with Ole Miss on the schedule.

As Texas A&M (5-3, 3-2 SEC) heads into Week 10, the goal moving forward remains the same: close out the season strong. The next obstacle in their path is a familiar foe in the No. 11 Ole Miss Rebels.

The Lane Kiffin-led squad has proven strong on both sides of the ball this season. Ole Miss is scoring at a clip of 38.9 PPG (10th) while holding their opponents to 21.4 PPG (43rd). On top of their hot start this year, the Rebels were the last ones to come out on top in their yearly matchup with the Aggies, surviving a 31-28 affair in College Station.

So yeah, the Aggies don’t need any more motivation as they head into The Vaught this weekend for the highly touted affair. Leaders Max Johnson, Shemar Turner, and Trey Zuhn echoed just the same on Monday afternoon.

In speaking to the media, all three noted that the Rebels pose an ample challenge for the Maroon and White and on both sides of the ball. But after a promising 30-17 win over South Carolina last weekend, each player noted that there is positive momentum brewing in the aftermath. And with that, the Aggies should be equipped to rise to the occasion in facing one of the SEC’s best teams this season.

Below are Max Johnson, Shemar Turner, and Trey Zuhn’s full press conferences from Monday afternoon, as well as notable takeaways from their time at the podium.

‘You have to block out the noise…and go out and play.’ Jimbo Fisher looks ahead toward road matchup with Ole Miss

As the Aggies prepare to head on the road in Week 10, Jimbo Fisher and company will face an old nemesis in Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss.

Texas A&M (5-3, 3-2 SEC) steered its season back on track with a much-needed 30-17 win over South Carolina. Next up on the docket is a road matchup against an old nemesis.

Yes, Ole Miss coach by day, and social media thorn by night Lane Kiffin stands in the Aggies’ way as Texas A&M faces the Rebels in Week 10. In addition to the Maroon and White hoping to exact revenge after falling 31-28 in last year’s matchup, Ole Miss presents the type of opponent that could make or break what A&M is selling at this point.

The Rebels are averaging 38.9 PPG (10th) and are allowing just 21.4 PPG (43rd) to their opponents heading into Week 10. If A&M can knock off that caliber of team, on the road in a hostile environment, it would very much speak to how the Aggies can close out the season on a strong note, and a successful one at that.

Those beliefs were echoed by Jimbo Fisher during his weekly press conference on Monday. The Aggies coach noted that this team had many positive takeaways from their win over the Gamecocks, but a short turnaround against a talented Ole Miss team presents and entirely new challenge.

Below is Jimbo Fisher’s full press conference ahead of facing Ole Miss, including notable takeaways from his time at the podium.

Latest AP Top 25 Poll sees future SEC school slip following upset loss in Week 9

A future Texas A&M opponent saw a considerable drop in the latest AP Top 25 Poll following Week 9.

Texas A&M (5-3, 3-2 SEC) got a much-needed jolt following a 30-17 win over South Carolina (2-6, 1-5 SEC) over the weekend. The win helped steer the Aggies season back on track, but it wasn’t enough to garner some appreciation in the latest AP Top 25 Poll.

The Aggies were again shut out in the latest rankings, marking another consecutive week on the outside looking in for the Maroon and White. It’s going to take more than an (expected) win versus an inferior Gamecocks opponent to gain some traction in the AP Top 25 Poll.

Thankfully, A&M’s next matchup is a bout against Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels, who moved up one spot to No. 11 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll. No one has the ability of clairvoyance, but fending off the Rebels would be a huge momentum boost toward the Aggies closing out the season strong, and yes, potentially making the 2023 campaign a success.

Elsewhere in the poll, Texas A&M’s future SEC opponent in Oklahoma dropped four spots to No. 10, nearly sending the Sooners outside of the Top 10 completely. Oklahoma suffered a 38-33 upset to Kansas, who held firm at No. 22 in the AP Poll.

Back atop the rankings, the top five remain unchanged with No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Florida State, and No. 5 Washington standing pat. No. 6 Oregon moved up one spot after making easy work of Utah, who stumbled five spots to No. 18. No. 7 Texas, No. 8 Alabama, and No. 9 Penn State rounded out the top 10.

Below is a look at the full latest AP Top 25 Poll update following Week 9:
