2024 RHP Marc Barhard has committed to Texas A&M baseball

Texas A&M has picked up a powerful arm in the 2024 cycle, as right handed pitcher Marc Bernhard has committed to the Maroon and White

Texas A&M baseball has continued its recruiting hot streak in the 2024 cycle after adding RHP Drew Rerick, the No.1-ranked player in North Dakota, early last week, and leading into the weekend, another power arm in the class announced his commitment to the Maroon and White on Saturday afternoon.

2024 RHP Marc Barnhard, who stands at 6-2 and 185 pounds, hails from Grand Oaks High School in Spring, Texas, and will join his high school teammate and fellow RHP Houston Tomlinson in the Aggies 2024 recruiting class while possessing a 90 to 92 mph fastball, according to Five Tools.

Barnhard, who has continued to work with Driveline Baseball, an online baseball training facility, the rising star, has continued to make strides in his game, specifically increasing his strength and mobility on the mound while working towards his lofty goal of hitting 95 mph velocity on his fastball when it’s all said and done.

Aside from Rerick and Tomlinson, Barhard joins a loaded class, including Flower Mound (Texas) outfielder Caden Sorrell, Villa Park (California) outfielder Gavin Grahovic, and Montgomery County (Texas) Lake Creek RHP Weston Moss, who all withdrew their names from the 2023 MLB Draft earlier this month to join Coach Jim Schlossnagle for the 2024 campaign.

Congratulations on your commitment, Marc! Gig ’em!

Class of 2024 RHP Drew Rerick has committed to Texas A&M baseball

In adding Rerick to their 2024 class, Texas A&M is getting a top 50 national prospect and the number on RHP in the state of North Dakota.

Texas A&M baseball is hot on the recruiting trail after adding one of the best arms in the country to their 2024 recruiting class.

On Monday night, class of 2024 RHP Drew Rerick announced his commitment to the Maroon and White. Rerick is a top 50 national prospect, and with his commitment, Coach Jim Schlossnagle and the Aggies now have both the number one RHP in the state of North Dakota and the top LHP in the state of Minnesota committed to their 2024 class.

Rerick is heading into his senior season at Fargo Davies High School and was named to the 2023 All-American Classic.

Rerick joins fellow RHP commit Houston Tomlinson out of Grand Oaks High School in Spring, Texas, who announced that he would continue his collegiate career with the Aggies last month. Both pitchers are joined by a trio of talents that include Flower Mound (Texas) outfielder Caden Sorrell, Villa Park (California) outfielder Gavin Grahovic, and Montgomery County (Texas) Lake Creek RHP Weston Moss, who all withdrew their names from the 2023 MLB Draft to join the Aggies for the 2024 campaign.

Rerick’s addition should bolster the depth in the Aggies’ bullpen after RHP Nathan Dettmer, LHP Brandyn Garcia, and LHP Will Johnston all heard their names called in this year’s draft. Texas A&M ended the 2023 season with a cumulative 5.67 ERA, highlighting how their performance on the mound will be a key area of improvement next season.

Congratulations to Drew on your commitment! Gig ’em!

Everything Aggie coaches Buzz Williams and Nolan Cain said at the TexAgs 2023 Preseason Kickoff

Basketball coach Buzz Williams and baseball Assistant coach Nolan Cain spoke about their teams’ respective expectations for the coming season.

As the summer months slowly begin to dwindle, it means that it will soon be time to turn the page toward a full slate of exciting college sports that includes football, basketball, and the lead-up to baseball.

TexAgs recently held their 2023 Preseason Kickoff Event, which benefits the Kidz 1st Fund. The fund was established by Coach Jimbo Fisher & Candi Fisher after their son was diagnosed with Fanconi anemia. The Kidz1stFund raises awareness & funds for FA research.

The kickoff event had no shortage of noteworthy speakers as basketball Head Coach Buzz Williams and baseball Assistant Coach Nolan Cain took the stage to field questions about their teams’ respective offseasons and the expectations for each program heading into the fall.

Coach Buzz, who led the Aggies to a 15-3 record in the SEC and a second consecutive conference title game, made it clear that the expectations are raised for this program in 2023. It’s hard to be better than that record, but when it comes to their early exit in the 2023 NCAA Tournament to Penn State, that is by all means a barrier they’re motivated to overcome in the new season.

As for Texas A&M’s baseball team, Assistant Coach Nolan Cain made it clear that they aim to be playing in Omaha every single season, and if it means being aggressive in the transfer portal to give this roster an added edge, then so be it. Furthermore, that only means that competition for playing time will be at an all-time high heading into the fall.

Here is everything Williams and Cain said at the TexAgs Preseason Kickoff event.

Class of 2024 RHP Houston Tomlinson commits to Texas A&M baseball

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class just added another arm that hails from the Lone Star State.

As Texas A&M baseball prepares to reload for the 2024 season, their recruiting class added another arm from the Lone Star State.

RHP Houston Tomlinson announced on social media that he would commit to the Aggies to further his academic and athletic career. At six-foot with a 175-pound frame, Tomlinson is entering his senior season at Grand Oaks High School in Spring, Texas. Tomlinson boasts a 93 mph fastball velocity, according to Five Tools. In his most recent appearance on the mound, he threw five shutout innings while striking out seven with no runs allowed while topping 94 mph.

Tomlinson will join a trio of talents that include Flower Mound (Texas) outfielder Caden Sorrell, Villa Park (California) outfielder Gavin Grahovic, and Montgomery County (Texas) Lake Creek RHP Weston Moss, who all withdrew their names from the 2023 MLB Draft earlier this month to join Coach Jim Schlossnagle for the 2024 campaign.

Tomlinson’s addition adds depth to the Aggies’ bullpen after they saw RHP Nathan Dettmer, LHP Brandyn Garcia, and LHP Will Johnston all heard their names called in this year’s draft. As a team, Texas A&M ended the 2023 season with a cumulative 5.67 ERA, highlighting how their performance on the mound will be a key area of improvement next season.

Congratulations to Houston and his family on the commitment! Gig ’em!

Every Texas A&M Aggie selected in the 2023 MLB Draft

Texas A&M is the only school in the nation to have three or more players picked in every MLB Draft since 2001, marking an unmatched 22-year streak.

The 2023 MLB Draft is officially in the books, and there was no shortage of Texas A&M prospects hearing their names called over the course of the three-day event.

While no one from the Maroon and White heard their name called on Day 1, the Aggies more than made up for it with six total selections across Days 2 and 3. In the aftermath, Texas A&M has had at least two players selected in every draft since 1984, which is the longest streak in the country. The Aggies also boast the achievement of being the only school in the nation to have three or more players picked in every MLB Draft since 2001.

That 22-year streak is three years longer than the next-closest active run, which is 19 years by the Vanderbilt Commodores.

There is plenty to be excited about at the moment if you’re an Aggie baseball fan, from the home run hiring of Max Weiner as Texas A&M’s new pitching coach to the trio of Aggie signees that withdrew their name from the MLB Draft, thus joining the program in 2024. And while the departures of the six Aggies who heard their names called is bittersweet, it’s rewarding to know they will represent the Maroon and White to the fullest at the next level.

Here is the rundown of every Aggie that was selected in the 2023 MLB Draft. Congratulations to all, and of course, BTHO the majors!

Aggies First Baseman Jack Moss selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 11th round, 318th overall

The Cincinnati Reds have selected Texas A&M First Baseman Jack Moss in the 11th Round of the 2023 MLB Draft.

The fourth Aggie has been taken off the board in the 2023 MLB Draft; as the most consistent hitter in Texas A&M’s lineup, nicknamed “the professional hitter” last season, First Baseman Jack Moss has been selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 11th round, 318th overall.

Moss, who transferred to Jim Schlossnagle’s program before the 2022 season, sported a .368 batting average in two years with the team, following current Aggies hitting coach Michael Earley from Arizona State, led the 2022 Maroon and White squad offensively, hitting .380 at the plate combined with 103 hits, which is good for fifth in Texas A&M single-season history.

During the 2023 campaign, Moss led Texas A&M for the second consecutive season in batting average (.352) and hits (93) while once again performing his best when it mattered most in the postseason, earning SEC All-Tournament honors during the Aggies’ conference tournament run to the title game before falling to Vanderbilt.

Nothing is set in stone for Jack Moss after being selected, as being selected in the later round presents an opportunity for his return to the program based on his professional trajectory if returning further increases his draft stock in 2024. Either way, a significant impact on the Aggies’ 2024 roster is imminent once a decision is made.

Texas A&M Baseball promotes Nolan Cain to Associate Head Coach

After Nate Yeskie’s departure to LSU, Texas A&M has promoted Nolan Cain as an Associate Head Coach for the 2024 college baseball season.

It was announced on Tuesday that Texas A&M Baseball Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle had promoted Nolan Cain as an Associate Head Coach for the 2024 campaign, according to an official release from Texas A&M Athletics. Cain, who joined the Aggies staff during the 2021 season, has been the program’s recruiting ace, coaching third base and working closely with catchers.

Cain transitioned to Texas A&M after eight seasons as a former LSU Head Coach Paul Manieri’s staff member, including five seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. He also worked one season as the Tigers’ volunteer coach and two seasons as operations coordinator.

As one of the top recruiters in the country, Cain has aided the Aggies in landing recent talent, such as Freshman All-America outfielder Jace LaViollette, and the pitching duo of Justin Lamkin and Shane Sdao. During his illustrious recruiting career at LSU, three of his last four recruiting classes at LSU were ranked in the national top five, which included a No 2 finish in the 2020 recruiting cycle.

Jim Schlossnagle’s recent quote regarding Cain’s promotions speaks volumes regarding his importance to the program’s future success:

“Nolan has been the glue to our program over the past two years and especially over the past few weeks,” Schlossnagle stated. “He has more than earned this promotion and has continued to prove his incredible value both on the field and on the recruiting trail. We are excited to have Nolan and his family in Aggieland for a long time!”

Cain will replace former pitching coach Nate Yeskie, Associate Head Coach duties, whose recent departure to LSU led to Monday’s hiring of the young up-and-coming coach Max Weiner to fill the pitching coach position.

Nolan Cain knows the future is bright for the Maroon and White heading into the 2024 season and beyond, and by the looks of it, he couldn’t be happier anywhere else.

“Since our arrival at Texas A&M, the transition for my wife, children and I has been very smooth and welcoming from the 12th Man and the Bryan-College Station community,” Cain stated. “Beginning with the first day here our staff and families have embraced one another and it felt as though we had worked together for years. The present and future of Aggie Baseball is bright and we could not be happier with our time here.”

Three Texas A&M Aggies selected in the 2023 MLB Draft

Not one, not two, but three Texas A&M Aggies heard their names called Tuesday afternoon during the 2023 MLB Draft!

Not one, not two, but three former Texas A&M Aggies are officially turning professional as they make the next stop of their baseball careers.

Shortstop Hunter Haas, RHP Nathan Dettmer, and third baseman Trevor Werner all heard their names called in the 2023 MLB Draft on Tuesday afternoon. Haas was the first Aggie off the board, going No. 120 to the Tampa Bay Rays. Dettmer was taken No. 139 by the Oakland Athletics, and Werner rounded out the three after being taken No. 199 by the Kansas City Royals.

After beginning his collegiate career at Arizona State for two seasons, Haas transferred to A&M and made his impact felt on the diamond. He lead the team in walks (49) while ranked second in batting average (.323), on-base percentage (.447),, and OPS (.953), while also logging 10 homers.

Dettmer spent three seasons in College Station, logging 53 appearances with 48 starts, a 5.27 ERA, a 10-9 record as a starter, and 196 strikeouts with 94 walks.

In four seasons with Texas A&M, Werner appeared in 125 games to go alongside 111 starts. As an Aggie, he boasts a career .251 batting average, a .348 on-base percentage, and a .459 slugging percentage to go with 21 home runs, and 97 RBIs.

Congratulations to all three on this special moment! We know you’ll continue to represent the Maroon and White proud, and as always, Gig ’em and BTHO the majors!

Projecting where Aggie prospects could land in the 2023 MLB Draft

Ahead of the 2023 MLB Draft, which begins Sunday night, Texas A&M has no shortage of prospects who could hear their names called.

The 2023 MLB Draft kicks off on Sunday, July 9, and carries through Tuesday, July 11, in Seattle. This marks the second straight year that the event has coincided with the MLB All-Star Game, and it could also feature a handful of Texas A&M prospects.

Ahead of the start of Round 1 of the draft, which opens at 5 p.m. CT on Sunday, Texas A&M will have no shortage of potential prospects who could, realistically, hear their names called. Granted, the top of the draft is arguably reserved for the likes of LSU‘s Paul Skenes, Dylan Crews, and Florida‘s Wyatt Langford, who are all expected to be off the board in the top five. But once it’s all said and done, a handful of Aggies could be making their way to the big leagues next year.

Outfielders Brett Minnich and Jordan Thompson, relievers Matt Dillard (LHP) and Carson Lambert (RHP), and second baseman Austin Bost all saw their college eligibility come to a close and will look to make the jump to the majors.

Additionally, LHPs Evan Aschenbeck, Will Johnston, Brandyn Garcia, RHP Nathan Dettmer, shortstop Hunter Haas, third baseman Trevor Werner, first baseman Jack Moss, and utility Ryan Targac have a chance to become professional.

Dettmer, Haas, and Moss all made the first stop on that journey after showcasing their skills at the MLB Draft Combine last month in Phoenix.

As shared through GigEm247, here is a look at which former, current, and potentially future A&M players are in the MLB.com Top 250 and ESPN Top 300 prospect rankings. The slot value for each projected pick is included as well.

Round 6, No. 188: Haas – $295,000
