Texas A&M was eliminated from the SEC Tournament on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals following a 95-90 loss against Florida.

After the game, the media spoke to Aggies guards, senior Hayden Hefner and junior Jace Carter.

The Gators outscored Texas A&M in the second half 53-40 and Carter was asked by TexAgs about what was different in the final 20 minutes.

“I don’t think anything changed, I think our recipe is our recipe. I don’t think we changed up the way we were playing at that time in the game. I think they just made a lot of shots down the stretch,” Carter explained. “I don’t think it was an offensive problem, we scored 90 points. We just didn’t get stops, had a low amount of turkeys and they shot 50% from three, it was our defense.”

The Eagle asked Hefner about the Aggies’ stagnation in the second half versus Florida.

“When the whistle is getting blown a lot, it’s just hard maintaining a flow with what we’re trying to accomplish,” Hefner said. “We always try to reiterate to one another and the coaching staff is always talking to us about just staying in the moment and not letting that affect what we’re trying to accomplish.”

TexAgs’ Billy Liucci provides his thoughts on how Conner Weigman will perform in new Aggies OC Collin Klein’s offense

Billy Liucci gives a rundown on why he thinks Conner Weigman can make a big jump this next season.

Texas A&M’s 2024 football season will come with a lot of a lot of question marks. However, outside of the defensive line, the quarterback room is the other position group with immense talent. While the actual game experience might be lacking, signal callers Conner Weigman, Jaylon Henderson, and Marcel Reed all showed the ability to make plays in the hybrid Jimbo Fisher/Bobby Petrino play-calling system last season.

While the competition in the spring will be interesting to watch, Weigman still holds the QB1 sport, with the backup position being an under-the-radar battle to keep an eye on. Billy Liucci of TexAgs recently gave us his insight into why he believes Weigman will make a big jump this next season.

We can get our first look at Conner in Collin Klein’s offense and what we can expect from this team during the spring scrimmage on April 20th.

Texas A&M junior quarterback Conner Weigman discusses being cleared and much more

“The doctor called a couple of days ago. He looked at my CT scans and said the bones were all healed. It was good to get cleared from him.”

Texas A&M junior quarterback Conner Weigman was recently cleared to play after suffering a season-ending foot injury in Week 4 of the 2023 season.

Weigman chatted with Billy Liucci of TexAgs this week about a variety of topics, including his rehabilitation and the new era under head coach Mike Elko and his staff.

“Rehab has been good so far,” Weigman told TexAgs. “The doctor called a couple of days ago. He looked at my CT scans and said the bones were all healed. It was good to get cleared from him. We just need to start working with the training staff now and it’s about getting back to feeling like myself again.

“It’s exciting to be back with the team and do the same workouts with the guys. Being on the side by myself was pretty tough because I couldn’t be with my teammates and in the fire with them. I’m excited about being back with them and getting the ball rolling again.”

The Aggies were recently rated No. 1 in 247Sports’ “2024 Transfer Football Team Rankings” which impressed Weigman.

“The new regime is not playing around. I love it. There’s discipline in the little details. The little things matter because they all add up. It’s cool to see how it’s all coming together quickly,” Weigman said. “The portal transfers came out to be something like 28 guys. It has been cool. I try to eat breakfast every day with a new guy to try and build that bond and build that brotherhood. I remember how I felt when I first got here, so I just try to reach out to them.

“I’ve already been talking to the new defensive backs because I want to see what they’ve got. The competition at practice is going to be something and I’m looking forward to it.”

Weigman seems to be gelling with his new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach as well.

“Working with Collin Klein has been cool because he played the position at a high level. Just a few years ago, he was in the Heisman race with Johnny Manziel,” Weigman recalled. “Klein is a younger guy, so he’s in tune with all the new-age stuff. He’s fun to sit and talk to about football. I remember watching him play in 2012.”

Former Marshall defensive end Elijah Alston commits to Texas A&M over Georgia in transfer portal

Former Marshall redshirt junior defensive end Elijah Alston has committed to continue his career in Bryan-College Station at Texas A&M.

Former Marshall redshirt junior defensive end Elijah Alston has committed to continue his career in Bryan-College Station at Texas A&M.

According to TexAgs recruiting & baseball analyst Ryan Brauninger, Alston committed to the Aggies and head coach Mike Elko on Monday morning. Alston confirmed the report with respective posts on Instagram on X.

The 6-foot-2, 256-pound defensive lineman chose Texas A&M over Georgia, which he visited this past weekend. Alston has been with the Thundering Herd since 2019 but has had extended action since 2021. In the last three seasons at Marshall, he tallied 102 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks.

According to Pro Football Focus, Alston has a 91.0 overall grade and 90.5 pass-rush grade. Those statistics are based on 235 pass rush snaps in which he racked up 36 QB pressures and 5 sacks.

He redshirted in 2019 and played four games during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Therefore, Alston comes to Kyle Field with one year of collegiate eligibility remaining.

Report: Texas A&M set to hire Holmon Wiggins from Alabama as co-offensive coordinator and WRs coach

The list of players that he has coached includes the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner and current Philadelphia Eagles wideout DeVonta Smith.

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has reportedly made a huge addition to his coaching staff to bring one of the top young recruiters in college football to Bryan-College Station.

Per Billy Liucci of TexAgs, Elko is hiring Holmon Wiggins from Alabama to serve as co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. The 43-year-old will coach alongside Collin Klein, who was hired from Kansas State in December.

As noted by AggiesToday on X, Wiggins is “one of the top recruiters in the entire country, landing four 5-star receivers in the past two seasons while sending multiple to the NFL.”

The list of players that he has coached includes the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner and current Philadelphia Eagles wideout DeVonta Smith. Wiggins has coached the wide receivers in Tuscaloosa since 2019 and has been the offensive assistant head coach since 2021.

“Goes without saying that coach Mike Elko adding longtime Crimson Tide assistant Holmon Wiggins to the Aggie staff is going to turn heads around the SEC,” Liucci stated on X. “This one is a big one on the field in terms of WR development and the recruiting/portal arena, as well.”

Report: Texas A&M football team set to hire Wesley McGriff from Auburn as co-defensive backs coach

Per Billy Lucci of TexAgs, Mike Elko is set to hire Auburn defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff to join his staff alongside Ishmael Aristide.

With so many versatile playmakers in college football, and especially the SEC, having dependable defensive backs is key to having a great team.

The Texas A&M football program now reportedly has two coaches to lead their speediest defenders. Mike Elko is set to hire Auburn defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff to join his staff, per Billy Liucci of TexAgs.

McGriff will work alongside Ishmael Aristide, who was hired earlier this month to coach cornerbacks. Aristide followed Elko from Durham after coaching on his Duke staff for one season.

As Liucci pointed out on X, McGriff comes to College Station with more than just SEC coaching experience, he is also a talented recruiter who has developed elite prospects into dependable NFL players.

McGriff had three separate stints with the Tigers in 2016, 2019 to 2020 and in 2022. He served as the secondary coach at Lousiville in 2021. McGriff also has previous experience at Florida and Ole Miss.

In a recent interview, Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman is excited to play under new HC Mike Elko

Texas A&M starting QB Conner Weigman revealed his excitement to get to work under head coach Mike Elko in his recent TexAgs interview.

Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman is, by far, the most important player on the roster going into the beyond critical 2024 season, as new Aggies head coach Mike Elko will enter his first full season at the helm.

After the firing of now-former head coach Jimbo Fisher, Weigman’s future in Aggieland was realistically never in doubt, as his previous relationship with Elko during his time as A&M’s defensive coordinator from 2018-2021, helping recruit the former five-star signal caller in 2022.

After just four starts during the 2023 season, Weigman, who had already passed for 979 yards, eight touchdowns, and only two interceptions, sustained a season-ending lower-body injury just minutes before halftime amid the Aggies’ 27-10 win over Auburn back on Sept. 23.

Still sticking around the sidelines during the rest of the season, Weigman is now in the rehabbing stage after a successful surgery and is poised to return to spring football in the next couple of months if all goes well. Providing fans more clarity, Weigman joined TexAgs’ Billy Liucci on Friday for a 12-minute interview to discuss his return and his excitement to play under a familiar face in Mike Elko.

“I was excited because I’ve known coach Elko for a while, I played baseball with Mikey (Mike Elko’s son Michael), he was with the team when I was being recruited here, and just a really cool, down-to-earth guy, and it’s cool to see him back in Aggieland.”

While Elko has made several staff changes, including the dismissal of offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino, an announcement regarding Petrino’s replacement should be coming sooner or later. Still, as of now, everything is based on speculation.

However, Elko has already gained the trust of Weigman and the rest of the offense, as whoever is deemed to become the Aggies’ new OC will hopefully bring a wealth of explosiveness to the offense in 2024. As Liucci noted his excitement that the offense will have a clean slate to work from, he asked Conner just how pumped he is on a scale of 1-10:

“I’m at a 10. All of us offensive guys are, and we trust him to make a good hire, and that’s what he’s preached to us that he’ll go get a really good guy and put us in a good position to succeed.”

As usual, Liucci and the rest of the TexAgs staff cleared up yet another rumor regarding the ongoing transfer portal chaos, so no matter what happens next, knowing that one of the most talented quarterbacks in the country will be back on his Aggie redemption tour next season is undoubtedly a sight for sore eyes. Report: Sources indicate that Texas A&M has fired head coach Jimbo Fisher

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Texas A&M head football coach Jimbo Fisher has been fired.

As of Sunday, Nov. 12, Texas A&M head football coach Jimbo Fisher has been fired, according to several sources who indicated the news earlier this morning. Associate head coach Elijah Robinson will be promoted as the interim head coach, according to ESPN CFB insider Pete Thamel.

In six seasons at the helm, Fisher finished with a 45-25 overall record and a 27-21 record in SEC play, but outside of the 9-1 finish during the Covid-impacted 2020 season, including a victory in the Orange Bowl. Fisher’s tenure has been woefully underwhelming since, especially when the play on the field failed to match recruiting success in recent seasons.

Coming as a shock to many, TexAgs Co-owner and Executive Editor Billy Liucci was the first break on the story that Fisher may be let go as early as Sunday morning, just days after the Board of Regents met on Thursday, Nov. 9.

Financially, this will cost the program over $76.8 million, as his dense contract is set to expire in 2031, but hey, they knew this all along before the final decision was made.

Texas A&M is fresh off its 51-10 win over Mississippi State less than 24 hours ago. It will now face Abilene Christian next Saturday for yet another early kick-off (11:00 CT.) before taking on LSU on the road in the regular season finale.

Star Aggies WR Evan Stewart sits down for a bye week interview with TexAgs

Big Play wide receiver Evan Stewart sits down with TexAgs to discuss his bye week plans, his health, and the state of the Aggie offense.

Earlier this week, second-year wide receiver Evan Stewart sat down with Billy Liucci at TexAgs to talk about everything from his injury recovery to the music he listened to as a kid riding in the car with his parents.

Stewart, as always, provided some great insight into the state of the offense and how the defense has come into its own. Despite the last two tough losses and the news of top recruit Drelon Miller de-committing, the ascending superstar appears locked in and ready to return to the practice field. Below are a few quotes from the interview:

When asked about his mentality while playing nicked up.

“I know a lot of my opponents know who I am and what I’m capable of when I’m 100 percent. Just off my name, I feel like they know they have to guard me pretty closely. Even when I’m not 100 percent, I’m still explosive and consistent on every route, getting open and catching the rock. I don’t think it changes too much from my game and how I want to play.”

Evan Stewart talks about how he is going to spend the bye week.

“I have to get into my social media presence this week because I’ve been locked in for the season. I’ll interact with a few more of my fans and make a few more posts than usual. I’m also just going to kick it at the crib and get ready for South Carolina next week. I’m honestly just ready to get back on the practice field too.”

He was not at a loss for words when praising the defense, naming numerous defensive players and what they bring to the team.

This was an entertaining interview that everyone should check out. Evan Stewart is very open from a personal standpoint, and Luicci asked some great questions that even had both get up to show off their dance moves.

Even while battling nagging injuries, Evan Stewart has been recognized nationally as a top player at the position. In six starts this season, Stewarts is tied with Ainias Smith in receiving yards with 31 receptions for 451 yards and four touchdowns through seven games.

The Aggies will take the time during the bye week to heal up and see about getting the offense back on track for a strong finish in the back half of the season.
