Terron Armstead says Tyreek Hill has ‘mending to do’ with teammates

Tyreek Hill has work to do to earn his teammates’ trust and confidence, says Dolphins tackle Terron Armstead.

Tyreek Hill has some work to do if he’s going to earn back his Miami Dolphins teammates’ trust and confidence, according to veteran offensive lineman Terron Armstead.

“He really wants to win, so when he doesn’t, it bothers him to the depths of his core,” Armstead said of Hill in an interview with talkSPORT. “I know the words that he said after our last game. I can’t excuse him for it, ’cause as a captain and as a leader, you can’t do it. So he has some mending to do with some relationships.

“I talked to him immediately after and he was regretful. He knew ‘I can’t go there, I can’t do that.’ As we rode together going to the plane, he was immediately aware — especially in today’s age, once you say anything or put out a tweet, it’s all over the world now.”

If Hill was regretful for saying he was ready to leave Miami, he didn’t act like it on social media. The receiver temporarily changed his profile picture on X to an image with his head superimposed on the body of Antonio Brown, who infamously quit on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the middle of a game in 2022.

A couple weeks after the Dolphins season ended, Hill said on a Twitch stream, “I deserve to feel like that.”

What Armstead also didn’t mention in his interview is that Hill appeared to quit on his squad in the third quarter of the Dolphins’ Week 18 finale.

Earlier this week, Raheem Mostert shrugged off the situation. In an interview, the Dolphins running back said Hill “was just fed up at that moment” and other players felt the same way but “didn’t have the courage to say it like he did.”

It sounds like Terron Armstead plans to return, but is that what the Dolphins want?

Terron Armstead sounds like he’s planning to be back in 2025, but his $22.8 million salary cap hit is a bit of a headache.

Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Terron Armstead has contemplated the idea of retirement in the last few offseasons before eventually deciding to return each time. It sure sounds like he’s ready to do the same in 2025.

“We have enough. We feel like we have the talent to go win,” Armstead said of the Dolphins in an interview with Pro Football Talk on Thursday. “I think us locking in on the details, on the small things … we have to make that something that’s a huge emphasis moving forward in order to win big games.”

Armstead later told David Bearman of Pro Football Network that he’ll meet with the Dolphins “pretty soon” to discuss his future and added “I feel great.”

All that points to a player who seems motivated to return in 2025 and help the Dolphins win. But is that what Miami wants?

In the second round of the 2024 NFL draft, the Dolphins drafted Patrick Paul, who they presumably envision to be Armstead’s successor at left tackle. Austin Jackson, who was extended about a year ago, is holding down the fort on the right side.

While another year of Paul waiting in the wings behind one of the NFL’s best offensive linemen isn’t necessarily a bad thing, Armstead’s $22.8 million salary cap hit in 2025  is a headache. The Dolphins are among the most cap-crunched teams entering this offseason and they could clear $15 million by releasing Armstead with a post-June 1 designation or by trading him after the start of June.

On the field, the 33-year-old tackle has continued to be a top-flight lineman. He earned an 89.4 grade from PFF this season, third highest of his five-time Pro Bowl career, and No. 1 on the Dolphins roster in 2024.

But injuries have been a constant for Armstead throughout his career. He sat out two games in 2024 and was sidelined for stretches in another five games. In 12 years in the NFL, Armstead has never played more than 15 games in a season.

Still, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel hasn’t been in a hurry to part with Armstead.

“What a huge piece of our team he is,” McDaniel said in December. “Just in terms of where we started off and where our mindset is in tough times or in good times. He’s one of the guys that everyone looks to. You’re always hopeful for [him to return]. I’m not taking him for granted for any moment either.”

Miami could also restructure Armstead’s deal and move as much as $9.5 million in salary cap hits further down the road. An extension could push the savings up to as much as $10.2 million. While the bill will eventually come due, that may prove to be the best course of action if Armstead decides he’s ready to stick around another season.

Tua Tagovailoa, Jaylen Waddle limited in Thursday practice

Tua Tagovailoa and Jaylen Waddle remain limited a few days ahead of the Dolphins’ regular season finale.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was limited in practice again Thursday due to his hip injury.

On Wednesday, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said the team was prepping as if Tyler Huntley would be the team’s starter in Week 18 against the New York Jets. The lack of progress made by Tagovailoa continues to point toward Huntley’s fifth start of the season coming to fruition.

Along with Tagovailoa, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was also limited due to a knee injury.

Elsewhere on the injury report, the Dolphins were again without Terron Armstead at practice, which could force the team to start the duo of Patrick Paul and Jackson Carman at the tackle positions.

Jaylen Waddle inactive, Tyreek Hill active for Week 15 vs. 49ers

Along with Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins will also have Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm in the lineup Sunday.

The Miami Dolphins will be without wide receiver Jaylen Waddle in Week 16 against the San Francisco 49ers due to a knee injury.

Waddle’s absence is no surprise after he missed the week’s practices and was listed as doubtful for Sunday. The good news for the Dolphins is that they’ll have wide receiver Tyreek Hill and left tackle Terron Armstead, who were both listed as questionable.

With Austin Jackson on injured reserve and both Armstead and Kendall Lamm out of action last week, the Dolphins were forced to turn to Patrick Paul and Jackson Carman as their starting offensive tackles. With both Armstead and Lamm back in Week 16, the Miami offensive line will look much closer to its usual lineup.

With kickoff 90 minutes away, here are the players ruled out by each team:

Dolphins inactives

  • WR Jaylen Waddle
  • CB Ethan Bonner
  • LB Channing Tindall
  • LB Mohamed Kamara
  • OL Andrew Meyer
  • WR Dee Eskridge

49ers inactives

Jaylen Waddle doubtful, Tyreek Hill questionable vs. 49ers

The Dolphins could be without both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on Sunday in their home finale.

The Miami Dolphins’ offense may be without a few keys players Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

On Friday, the team listed wide receiver Jaylen Waddle as doubtful and listed wide receiver Tyreek Hill and offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm as questionable.

Also questionable are linebacker Bradley Chubb and Cameron Goode, who have to be activated from the PUP list this weekend or else their 2024 seasons are officially over.

“I’ll meet with [general manager] Chris [Grier] and talk to both those two individuals,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said of Chubb and Goode. “I would say that during the process we had felt that Cam [Goode] was a little ahead, but I would be remiss if I would rule anybody anything for this game. But optimistic we’ll see one or both here when they’re ready and that’s what we’re making sure that we’re communicative and they’re empowered and feel ready to play football.”

Terron Armstead, Kendall Lamm inactive for Week 15 vs. Texans

The Dolphins are digging deep into their offensive line depth chart for a pair of starters at tackle Sunday.

The Miami Dolphins will be without offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm against the Houston Texans on Sunday, the team announced.

Armstead is no surprise after making an early exit last week against the New York Jets. The veteran was listed as doubtful for Week 15. To also be without Lamm, who was questionable, is a huge blow as the Dolphins will have to dig deep into their depth chart for a pair of starters Sunday.

With Austin Jackson on injured reserve, it’ll be second-round rookie Patrick Paul starting at left tackle. On the right side, it’ll likely be former Bengals lineman Jackson Carman, who was signed to the active roster from the Dolphins practice squad earlier this month. The team also has Isaiah Wynn and Ryan Hayes available.

Undrafted rookie lineman Andrew Meyer is active for the first time in his NFL career.

With kickoff 90 minutes away, here are the players ruled out by each team:

Dolphins inactives

  • RB Jeff Wilson Jr.
  • CB Ethan Bonner

Terron Armstead doubtful, 5 Dolphins questionable vs. Texans

One Dolphins starting offensive tackle is doubtful and the other is questionable for a Week 15 game in Houston.

The Miami Dolphins will likely be without left tackle Terron Armstead and may be without right tackle Kendall Lamm, as well, when they take on the Houston Texans in Week 15.

“I am a little pessimistic about [Armstead] this week and we’ve planned accordingly, but we’ll see how the next 48 hours go,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Friday.

In the event that Armstead is ruled out, second-round rookie Patrick Paul would be in line to make his second NFL start. If both Armstead and Lamm, who is questionable with a back injury, are out, the Dolphins have former Bengals lineman Jackson Carman next up on the depth chart. There’s also Isaiah Wynn, who began his career at tackle before moving to guard with the Dolphins.

Terron Armstead, 5 other Dolphins sit out Wednesday practice

Offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm weren’t on the practice field Wednesday.

The Miami Dolphins kept six players off the practice field Wednesday, including offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm.

Armstead has missed all practices in recent weeks, but has played through his knee injury. However, he exited early in the team’s Week 14 game against the New York Jets and was replaced in the lineup by second-round rookie Patrick Paul.

Earlier this week, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said the injury for Armstead needs rest “to cool down a little bit.”

Terron Armstead injury just needs rest, says Mike McDaniel

The Dolphins will let Terron Armstead’s knee “cool down a little bit,” says Mike McDaniel.

The knee injury that sidelined Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Terron Armstead for almost all of the team’s 32-26 win against the New York Jets doesn’t need surgery, coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Monday.

“It’s a rest thing,” McDaniel said of Armstead. “You might have seen his frustration level to try to contribute in this particular game and it’s something he can’t control. I’ve been very proud of how he’s handled all of it because he’s probably at a new level of maturity to to handle these these type of things. I think we’ll let it cool down a little bit.

“He was trying to will himself [to compete]. I just made it very clear that don’t waste your time trying to be a superhero.”

Armstead, 33, played only five snaps Sunday before he was replaced in the lineup by second-round rookie Patrick Paul. The CBS broadcast showed Armstead sitting on the bench seemingly on the verge of tears.

The Dolphins have withheld Armstead from practices for several weeks now and he’s been listed as questionable for the team’s last four games. However, he’s been in the starting lineup for all four and hardly missed any time before his early exit Sunday.

Despite the injury, Armstead has continued to play at a high level on the field. Pro Football Focus has credited him with allowing only one sack in 394 pass blocking snaps and he’s one of only three offensive tackles in the NFL with a grade above 90.

Paul was credited with allowing two pressures in 49 pass blocking snaps Sunday against the Jets. The Dolphins didn’t allow any sacks.

Raheem Mostert, 5 other Dolphins inactive for Week 14 vs. Jets

The Dolphins ruled out veterans Raheem Mostert and River Cracraft against the Jets.

The Miami Dolphins officially ruled out running back Raheem Mostert, along with five other players for a Week 14 game against the New York Jets.

Mostert was listed as questionable for the contest with a hip injury, but reports earlier Sunday indicated he wasn’t going to be able to play. But Mostert was one of four Dolphins players who entered game day as questionable and the other three — offensive tackle Terron Armstead, cornerback Kader Kohou, and linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. — are all active and in the lineup.

Instead, it’s veteran wide receiver River Cracraft who is the relatively surprising active scratch for Miami.

With kickoff 90 minutes away, here are the players ruled out by each team:

Dolphins inactives

  • QB Skylar Thompson (3rd QB)
  • CB Ethan Bonner
  • RB Raheem Mostert
  • OL Andrew Meyer
  • TE Jack Stoll
  • WR River Cracraft

Jets inactives

  • RB Breece Hall
  • WR Malachi Corley
  • OL Xavier Newman
  • CB Qwan’Tez Stiggers
  • EDGE Braiden McGregor
  • CB Sauce Gardner
