All 30 of the former Saints players competing in the playoffs

All 30 of the former Saints players competing in the playoffs, from Terron Armstead and Teddy Bridgewater to Sheldon Rankins and Willie Snead:

Who should New Orleans Saints fans pull for in the playoffs? A lot of fans may have already checked out now that the black and gold were eliminated, and some may be choosing their own personal favorites to win it all. But if you’re interested in keeping up with the former Saints on new teams, we’ve got everything you need.

There are plenty of players who suited up for New Orleans competing in the postseason, as are former Saints coaches like Frank Smith and Vic Fangio (with the Miami Dolphins) as well as former scouts like Omar Khan (the Pittsburgh Steelers general manager). To say nothing of former Saints assistant coaches Dan Campbell and Aaron Glenn doing big things with the Detroit Lions. The division-rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only team in the playoffs without a single former Saints player on their roster.

Here’s a quick look at the former Saints players on each playoff team going into the wild-card round:

6 Dolphins named to the 2024 Pro Bowl

Here’s who will be representing the Dolphins in the Pro Bowl, provided they’re not playing on Super Bowl Sunday.

The Miami Dolphins have had a number of talented players that have impacted their season in 2023, and six of them have received the honor of being named to the 2024 Pro Bowl Games the week before the Super Bowl.

Miami’s Pro Bowl selections for the year include quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, running back Raheem Mostert, fullback Alec Ingold, left tackle Terron Armstead and cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Tagovailoa (first Pro Bowl selection) currently leads the league in completion percentage (69.6%) and passing yards (4,451). He’s also set a career-high in touchdowns (28) while playing in 16 games so far this season.

Mostert (first Pro Bowl selection) rushed for 1,000 yards for the first time in his career this year. He’s also found the end zone a remarkable 21 total times which leads the NFL and is a Dolphins single-season record. He also leads the NFL and set a franchise record for rushing touchdowns this year (18).

Hill (eighth Pro Bowl selection), while he may fall short of his 2,000-yard goal, has been exceptional. He’s recorded a league-leading 1,717 yards this year (a Dolphins single-season record and career-high) and 12 touchdowns on 112 receptions (eight off of breaking the franchise single-season record he set last year).

Ingold (first Pro Bowl selection) has helped Miami become one of the top rushing offenses in the league, as they’ve averaged 137.5 yards on the ground per game (fifth-most in the NFL). He’s also totaled 119 yards on 13 receptions.

Armstead (fifth Pro Bowl selection) hasn’t been on the field for every game, but he’s absolutely been an integral part of a unit that’s been one of the NFL’s best despite injuries everywhere. In his nine games in 2023, he’s graded as the third-best tackle by Pro Football Focus (84.9).

Ramsey (seventh Pro Bowl selection) battled back from a torn meniscus in training camp to return to action for the Dolphins’ Week 8 matchup with the New England Patriots. Since then, the whole defense has looked much better. In his nine games, he’s recorded 18 tackles, five passes defensed and three interceptions. He’s also allowed a career-low 44.8 passer rating against.

It’s a great honor for these players to be selected to the Pro Bowl, but the Dolphins are hoping they’re busy planning for the Super Bowl during that weekend.

No Saints players led their positions in 2024 Pro Bowl Games fan voting

No current New Orleans Saints players led their positions in fan voting for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, but two of their former teammates did:

This is tough. No current New Orleans Saints players led their positions in fan voting for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, but two of their former teammates did while playing for other teams: New York Jets punter Thomas Morstead and Miami Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead both led the AFC in fan votes at their positions.

Maybe the Saints shouldn’t have let them go. Morstead was teammates with Armstead in Miami last year, but he’s continuing to play at a high level in the years since the Saints cut him to open the door for his successor Blake Gillikin. Gillikin was also released earlier this year in favor of Lou Hedley, who has experienced an up-and-down rookie year in the NFL.

As for Armstead: the Saints’ uncertainty at left tackle speaks for itself, though his situation was more complicated. On top of the serious salary cap implications involved, Armstead’s injury history made it tough to justify re-signing him. Even if they had kept Armstead, they would need an expensive insurance policy. Injuries have limited him to just 9 games this season for the Dolphins.

Fan voting is just one part of the process — coaches and the players themselves will also have ballots, so it’s possible some Saints players end up making the cut. And there’s always the possibility they can get in as alternates should starters opt out or are unavailable while playing in the Super Bowl. The NFL announced positional leaders in fan votes on Wednesday, with the AFC and NFC player rosters scheduled for release at 7 p.m. CT on NFL Network and NFL+.

Mike McDaniel provides updates on a slew of injured Dolphins

Miami’s HC updated the media and fans on a number of injured Dolphins.

The Miami Dolphins have had some tough injury luck in recent weeks, and that didn’t stop during their Week 14 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Monday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

Mike McDaniel’s team lost a number of key players to injuries at different points in the contest, and while some made their way back onto the field, others were unable to return.

On Tuesday, McDaniel spoke to the media and provided many updates on his injured players.

Here’s what he had to say:

9 Dolphins leading their positions in AFC Pro Bowl votes after first update

Dolphins getting massive respect in Pro-Bowl voting.

Fan voting for the 2024 NFL Pro Bowl has opened and has been underway for about a week with the best players across both conferences up for consideration to represent their team in the Pro Bowl Games before the Super Bowl.

While the Miami Dolphins are hoping to be busy prepping for a game in Las Vegas, Nevada this year, they were heavily represented on the first update from the league.

In total, nine Dolphins led their positions in voting after a week. Here they are:

Mike McDaniel provides updates on a group of injured Dolphins

Miami’s HC updated the media and fans on four injured starters.

The Miami Dolphins haven’t had many players suffer season-ending injuries so far this year, but they’ve been rather unlucky when it comes to week-to-week injuries.

Entering last week’s matchup against the Washington Commanders, the Dolphins were without safety Jevon Holland, left guard Isaiah Wynn and linebacker Jaelan Phillips (out for the year with a torn Achilles).

Then, during the contest, Miami lost left tackle Terron Armstead, right guard Robert Hunt and linebacker Jerome Baker.

With all of the injury statuses up in the air, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel updated everyone on the statuses of a few of his players.

Here’s what he had to say:

Dolphins LT Terron Armstead leaves with injury vs. Commanders

He went into the locker room early.

The Miami Dolphins, on their final possession of the second quarter against the Washington Commanders, scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown by Raheem Mostert.

On that final play, Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead headed to the locker room early, as he appeared to grab his leg following the score, according to the Miami Herald’s Daniel Oyefusi.

The team has announced the injury is to his ankle, and his return is questionable.

Without the star left tackle, Miami could turn to either Kendall Lamm or Kion Smith for the remainder of this game. As the Dolphins have a commanding leading in this one, they might not want to force Armstead to go in a game where they don’t necessarily need him.

UPDATE: Smith is playing at left tackle with Lamm entering this game with a back injury of his own.

Dolphins LT Terron Armstead takes responsibility for ‘sloppy game’ vs. Jets

Miami’s left tackle takes responsibility for his play.

While the Miami Dolphins defeated the New York Jets on Friday at MetLife Stadium, there were some performances that were better than others.

Left tackle Terron Armstead entered the week with a knee injury, but he was active and started in the contest. According to Pro Football Focus, Armstead gave up a hurry and pressure in his 29 pass-blocking snaps, leading to his worst overall grade of the season (59.9).

The 32-year-old also left the contest with a quad injury and didn’t return to action.

This week, Sports Illustrated’s Omar Kelly mentioned on social media that Armstead wasn’t his usual self against the Jets, and the left tackle responded.

Armstead’s being the leader he was brought in to be, as he shoulders the blame for his poor play.

While his status for this upcoming game against the Washington Commanders is certainly in question, it appears that he’s doing everything he can to get back on the field and playing up to his high standards.

Mike McDaniel provides update on Dolphins LT Terron Armstead’s injury

Dolphins could be without their LT for some time

The Miami Dolphins may have secured a victory on Friday against the New York Jets, but they left with some injuries as well.

One star player who left with an injury was left tackle Terron Armstead, who entered the game with a knee injury. The team announced that it was a quad that held him out for the rest of the game.

On Saturday, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters that he’s week-to-week.

During the contest against the Jets, it was originally Kion Smith who filled in for Armstead, but when right tackle Austin Jackson was ejected, Smith flipped to the right side and Kendall Lamm, who was questionable to play with a back injury, slid in at left tackle.

Lamm has started six games this season, all at left tackle. So, it would make sense to presume that he’ll be the first option, as long as he’s healthy himself.

Dolphins LT Terron Armstead leaves with injury vs. Jets

Miami’s playing their third-string LT.

The Miami Dolphins have been dealing with injuries all season, especially on the offensive line.

They entered Week 12 without left guard Isaiah Wynn (injured reserve) and with right guard Robert Hunt active but not playing due to injury.

Midway through the third quarter, Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead left the game and went off to the blue medical tent. With backup Kendall Lamm also dealing with an injury, third-string offensive tackle Kion Smith entered the game in his place.

The team announced that Armstead is dealing with a quad injury, and he’s questionable to return to action.
