10 Eagles that could land a contract extension in 2023

We’re taking an early look at 10 Philadelphia Eagles players that could potentially land a contract extension during the 2023 NFL season.

The Eagles avoided handing out any contract extension in 2022, choosing to focus on a Super Bowl run with a loaded roster.

That’ll change in 2023, with 10+ free agents exiting in free agency and an expected retooled roster that relies on the NFL’s most explosive offense.

Philadelphia is looking to build around All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurts.

GM Howie Roseman focused on adding younger talent in free agency this offseason, with the potential for impactful production on a cheap deal.

With the offseason quickly moving along, we’re previewing 10 Eagles who could land a contract extension during the 2023 season.

NFL free agency isn’t always about landing the big names and with a little over $24 million available, Howie Roseman could fill a lot of holes with some under-the-radar names.

Value is in the eyes of the beholder and with Philadelphia having needs at running back, cornerback, linebacker, and safety among others, there are several lesser-known players set to hit the open market that can help improve the culture already in place.

With the new league year quickly approaching, here are 10 under-the-radar free agents for the Eagles to target.

What could Minkah Fitzpatrick’s fifth-year option mean for Terrell Edmunds?

Now that the Pittsburgh Steelers have exercised the fifth-year option on Fitzpatrick, what will they do with fellow safety Terrell Edmunds?

Now that the Pittsburgh Steelers have exercised the fifth-year option on two-time Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, what will they do with fellow safety Terrell Edmunds?

While Edmunds showed occasional flashes, in the form of two interceptions in 2020, he’s never lived up to his first-round 2018 NFL draft selection.

Most draftniks had a third- or fourth-round draft projection on Edmunds. Instead, the Steelers reached for him at No. 28 overall.

Steelers Wire published a post in March listing the 2022 option price tags, which includes $6.573 million for a safety with no Pro Bowls, a.k.a Edmunds, should Pittsburgh exercise his option. The salary is significantly lower than Fitzpatrick’s $10.612 million but may still be more than what the Steelers are willing to pay Edmunds for his contributions to this point.

The deadline for the Steelers to decide is May 3. If no fifth-year option, Edmunds could become a free agent in March.

Meanwhile, Edmunds’s base salary for 2021 is $1.938 million.

5 Steelers the Colts must game plan for in Week 16

Keep an eye on these Steelers this weekend.

In possibly the best matchup of Week 16, the Indianapolis Colts (10-4) travel to the Steel City in hopes of potentially clinching a playoff birth. The Pittsburgh Steelers (11-3) are coming off their worst loss of the year in Cincinnati on Monday night and want to get their season back on track.

Regardless of their three-game losing streak, Pittsburgh has a stacked roster with lots of talent on both sides of the ball. This will be a tough battle of two great defenses that will surely give Colts fans another heart attack, but hey, that’s every week right?

Here are five Steelers the Colts must game plan for in Week 16:

Pittsburgh Steelers’ T.J. Watt: ‘No one’s really satisfied’ with how we’re playing

Sunday’s game versus the Titans was a tale of two teams after giving up a 20-point lead.

It’s clear after Sunday that, although they are undefeated at 6-0, the Steelers are not satisfied with their on-field play.

Pittsburgh has played only one complete game in all three phases, against the Cleveland Browns in Week 6.

In Sunday’s postgame Zoom conference with Pittsburgh media, there wasn’t exactly a we’re-winners, we’re-undefeated ambiance.

It’s likely because the game was a tale of two teams. The Steelers’ performance was vastly different in the second half after heading into the locker room up by 17 points.

“We have goals so high for ourselves because we know what we can do when we feel like we can be a truly special defense,” said T.J. Watt during the postgame press conference.

“And that’s why no one’s really satisfied after today. We need to do a lot better job, especially in the second half. But it starts with the run. And even though we did a good job in the first half, we got to continue and roll it over into the second half.”

Terrell Edmunds echoed his teammate’s sentiments.

“We’re the only undefeated team in the NFL,” said Edmunds. “We are 6-0. We have to continue to work hard to play a full game. Once we play a full game, offense, defense, special teams, I think we will be great.”

Undefeated teams can sometimes become complacent, which leads to mistakes. One way to avoid that is to constantly be of the mindset that you’re not as good as you can be. Great teams know they can always be greater.

The bar has been set so high that anything short of it is unacceptable. Something tells me the Steelers won’t be fully satisfied unless they hoist that Lombardi trophy in February.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin says Diontae Johnson and Terrell Edmunds are day-to-day with injuries

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin wrapped up Friday’s training camp with news about two of his starters.

Two standouts at Pittsburgh Steelers 2020 training camp are dealing with injuries. Mike Tomlin said in his Friday camp wrap up that wide receiver Diontae Johnson and safety Terrell Edmunds are day-to-day with minor injuries.

Johnson was spotted at practice in a wrap on his lower leg.

Injuries are expected at this point in the offseason, especially considering this is their first time practicing as a team since last season.

There is cause for concern, however. Both Johnson and Edmunds will miss out on valuable reps with no timetable to return. Wide receiver James Washington has not participated in practice since his injury on Monday, nor has guard David DeCastro or defensive lineman Chris Wormley.

Rookie offensive lineman Kevin Dotson, who injured his knee on Tuesday, has also not returned.
