No. 10 Tennessee (1-0) defeated Tennessee Tech (0-1), 80-42, Monday in a season opener for both schools at Food City Center.

The Vols led, 41-12, at halftime.

Tennessee had three players score 10-plus points. Dalton Knecht totaled 17 points.

Josiah Jordan-James scored 15 points and Jordan Gainey finished with 11.

Jonas Aidoo scored four points and was the Vols’ leading rebounder with eight. He also recorded two assists.

Jahmai Mashack scored nine points, while Freddie Dilione V finished with seven.

Tennessee will next play on Friday at Wisconsin. Tipoff between the Vols and Badgers is slated for 9 p.m. EST (Peacock).

First Four: Golden Eagles soar over the Monmouth Hawks

It had been over 40 years since Monmouth had been to a tournament game.

On Thursday, the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles defeated the Monmouth Hawks, 79-69, and broke a few March Madness droughts.

It had been a few decades since the Golden Eagles had been to the NCAA Division I women’s basketball tournament and won a game. It had been over 40 years since Monmouth had been to a tournament game.

Four players for Tennessee tech had double digits and with 12 three-pointers made, the Hawks couldn’t overcome the deficit. The Golden Eagles advance to the Field of 64 and will take on No. 1 seeded Indiana on March 18th at 11:30 a.m. ET on ESPN2.

This is only the eighth victory for the Ohio Valley Conference in the NCAA Tournament with Tennessee Tech accounting for four of those victories over the years.

Lady Vols shut out Tennessee Tech for 12th straight win

Tennessee softball shuts out Tennessee Tech for 12th straight win.

No. 7 Tennessee (17-1) defeated Tennessee Tech (1-16), 19-0, in five innings Wednesday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

Tennessee scored four runs in each of the first and second innings. The Lady Vols scored three runs in the third inning, while scoring six in the fourth inning.

The Lady Vols finished the game with 16 hits and scored on two Tennessee Tech errors.

Giulia Koutsoyanopulos went 2-for-3, recording one double, two runs and three RBIs for the Lady Vols. Lair Beautae recorded two hits and three RBIs.

Tennessee’s 12-game win-streak matches the Lady Vols’ best since 2021.

Freshman Charli Orsini (1-0) started for Tennessee, pitching three innings. She allowed one hit and recorded one strikeout.

Ryleigh White pitched two innings of scoreless relief. She allowed two hits and one walk, while recording three strikeouts.

Tyreke Key, a graduate transfer from Indiana State, came off the bench to lead Tennessee with 17 points against the Golden Eagles (0-1). He scored 11 points in the first half and was the only player to record double figures before halftime.

Zakai Zeigler started for the Vols and finished with 12 points, four assists and two rebounds.

Santiago Vescovi scored nine points, making three shots from beyond the 3-point arc. He also finished with eight rebounds and five assists.

Josiah-Jordan James came off the bench and scored eight points. Freshman Julian Phillips recorded eight points for the Vols.
