Panthers sign 5 players on Monday

The Panthers made a handful of moves on Monday.

The Carolina Panthers were quite busy on Monday.

As announced late this afternoon, the team has signed five players as they enter the final week of the 2024 preseason. Amongst the additions are cornerbacks Chris Wilcox and Quandre Mosely—both of whom worked out for the Panthers today.

Wilcox was a seventh-round selection of the NFC South rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. The Brigham Young University product—who has also picked up stints with the Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers—has yet to appear in a regular-season contest.

The same can be said for Mosely, who has bounced around the league since signing as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 2022. Along with Dallas, the 25-year-old has made stops in Seattle, Tampa Bay and New England.

Both are joined by running back Jaden Shirden, wide receiver Sam Pinckney and cornerback Willie Drew—all undrafted rookies who have already spent time with the Panthers this offseason.

To make room for the signees, the Panthers placed cornerback Anthony Brown and quarterback Jake Luton on injured reserve, waived/injured cornerback Lamar Jackson and wide receiver Tayvion Robinson and waived running back Dillon Johnson.

Panthers sign 3 players on Sunday

The Panthers are adding some much-needed depth to their offensive line.

The Carolina Panthers have found some much-needed depth for their offensive front.

As announced on Sunday morning, the team has signed interior lineman Jack Anderson. The addition was first reported by Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer late Saturday night.

A Plano, Texas native, Anderson attended nearby Texas Tech University from 2017 to 2020. He started every one of his games for the Red Raiders at right guard, where he’d earn a Second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2018 and a First-team All-Big 12 selection in his senior campaign of 2020.

The 6-foot-4, 314-pounder would crack into the NFL as a seventh-round selection of the Buffalo Bills in 2021. After failing to make the team’s initial 53-man roster as a rookie, Anderson was brought back to the practice squad to start the year.

Three weeks in, Anderson was signed away from Buffalo by the Philadelphia Eagles. He went on to appear in two games for Philly that season.

Anderson has since played in 12 games for the New York Giants (2022) and one for the Indianapolis Colts (2023).

Carolina also signed defensive tackle Walter Palmore and wide receiver Tayvion Robinson, both of whom have previously spent time with the organization.

In the corresponding moves to make room for the additions, the Panthers waived running back Jaden Shirden and Willie Drew and waived/injured wide receiver Deven Thompkins.

Last senior season , Robinson caught 41 passes for 552 yards and four touchdowns for the Wildcats.

He has experience as a punt returner, which could help him catch onto the Panther’s 53-man roster or practice squad at the conclusion of training camp.

He returned a total of 67 punts in college at an average 9.5 per attempt. Robinson provided excitement for the Wildcats, and the Panthers hope he can the same for them.

Panthers’ updated roster following Tuesday’s retirement of Rashaad Penny

RB Rashaad Penny is out and WR Tayvion Robinson is in for the Panthers at the start of padded practices.

Tuesday morning brought us a surprise, as the Carolina Panthers announced the retirement of 28-year-old running back Rashaad Penny. Penny, who signed with the team earlier in the spring, will have his vacancy filled by rookie wideout Tayvion Robinson.

Let’s take a look at the team’s updated roster after today’s moves . . .

It’s time to get a little familiar with new Carolina Panthers wideout Tayvion Robinson.

Before hitting the field for their first padded practice on Tuesday, the team announced they had placed running back Rashaad Penny on the reserve/retired list. That surprising move gave way to the addition of Robinson, an undrafted rookie receiver out of the University of Kentucky and Virginia Tech.

Here are 20 photos from Robinson’s college career:

Panthers sign rookie WR following Rashaad Penny’s retirement

The Panthers have already filled Rashaad Penny’s vacancy with a fresh face at wideout.

The Carolina Panthers’ most recent vacancy was hardly vacant at all.

On Tuesday morning, the team officially placed 28-year-old running back Rashaad Penny on the reserve/retired list. In the same breath, their announcement of the move also included news on the player who will take up the void—rookie wide receiver Tayvion Robinson.

Robinson, who has been signed in Penny’s place, cracked into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens this past spring. Prior to landing in the pros, the Virginia Beach, Va. native split his five collegiate seasons between Virginia Tech (2019 to 2021) and the University of Kentucky (2022 to 2023).

As a Hokie, Robinson amassed 113 receptions for 1,555 yards and nine touchdowns. In his two years as a Wildcat, he reeled in 81 passes for 1,049 yards and seven scores.

The 5-foot-10, 187-pounder also has a bit of experience as a returner on special teams. He returned a total of 67 punts in college at an average 9.5 per attempt.

Ravens waive rookie WR Tayvion Robinson

Ravens waive rookie WR Tayvion Robinson

The Baltimore Ravens’ wide receiver room will be scrutinized closely this season. On Wednesday night, we learned that Tayvion Robinson won’t be there.

According to an official team announcement, the undrafted free agent has been waived.

The only bright spot for Robinson is that at least this happened early in the summer, so his agent still has plenty of time to try and get him into another training camp.

Last season, his second at Kentucky after three at Virginia Tech, Robinson had 41 catches for 552 yards.

Throughout his college career, Robinson had 94 receptions for 2,604 yards and 14 touchdowns. Robinson’s being waived is obviously good news for all the Ravens wide receivers on the fringe who are long shots at making the team.

Some exciting stories are developing in this part of the depth chart.

Unless Baltimore signs another receiver, converted quarterback Malik Cunningham and Qadir Ismail, son of Ravens legend Qadry Ismail, will now have one less guy to compete against.

Notre Dame at Virginia Tech: Third-Quarter Analysis

We have a tight one here.

We still don’t have an idea of who will win this tight contest between Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. All we know is the Irish won’t be able to afford many mistakes if they want the victory. One critical mistake late in the third quarter means they find themselves behind, 22-21.

The Hokies’ offense came out firing to begin the second half, facing only two third downs over a six-minute drive. It nearly resulted in a 13-yard touchdown pass to Tayvion Robinson, but an ineligible-receiver penalty wiped that out. The Irish’s defense held firm in the red zone after that. John Parker Romo kicked a 26-yard field goal, so the Hokies still were able to get the lead out of their first drive of the half.

Tyler Buchner nearly threw an interception on the ensuing Irish drive, but it was dropped. Jay Bramblett punted the ball 52 yards, pinning the Hokies at the 17-yard line. Three plays later, TaRiq Bracy intercepted Braxton Burmeister to set up show at the 29. The Irish needed only four plays to find the end zone and retake the lead, which happened on a 10-yard Kyren Williams run in which three Hokies defenders missed tackles.

The Hokies failed to get out of their own territory on their next drive, but their bigger concern was Burmeister grabbing his right shoulder after hitting the turf hard after a run. There is no word yet on whether Burmesiter will play in the fourth quarter. In the meantime, the Irish had to start their next drive at their own 2 after a 53-yard punt from Peter Moore. That field position turned out to be important when Jermaine Waller picked off Buchner and ran 26 yards for a touchdown.

The Irish had the last word on that misfortune when they intercepted the two-point conversion pass. Still, they let the Hokies grab momentum again in the waning moments of a quarter. And if that wasn’t enough, Mitchell Evans was ejected after the final play of the quarter for targeting. None of that will get it done.

Know your foe, Virginia Tech: Five Hokies who could give Notre Dame problems

These Hokies will make some noise

Although the Hokies dropped out of the rankings after week 3’s action, they’re still a formidable opponent for the Irish. They will trot out a very impressive defense, a home field advantage and nothing to loose. This could equate to some trouble for the Irish, as Virginia Tech won’t be a push over Saturday night. Here are five Hokies that could the Irish problems when they hit the field.
