Jameis Winston was one of the first to congratulate Taysom Hill on his big day

Jameis Winston was one of the first to congratulate Taysom Hill on his big day, hurrying to embrace his old teammate after Saints-Browns:

Taysom Hill had a game for the ages when the New Orleans Saints hosted the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Hill was a major key to the Saints’ success in their 35-14 win, accounting for three touchdown runs — plus 138 rushing yards and another 50 receiving yards, and 18 passing yards on a trick play.

His old teammate Jameis Winston had a good day, too. Winston threw for 395 yards and two touchdowns against his former team while doing all he could to keep the Browns in it, and he didn’t turn the ball over. After the game Saints players, coaches, and other personnel queued up to see Winston, but he stepped up when Hill approached him.

“You were amazing, man,” Winston laughed, arms wrapping around Hill in a bear hug.

Once upon a time Winston and Hill competed for the opportunity to succeed Drew Brees as the Saints’ starting quarterback, splitting practice reps and preseason game action to push one another to be their best. Winston won that battle, but there’s still plenty of love between the two of them. Hill had a lot of Saints fans cheering him on Sunday. On some level, another one was watching him from the opposing sideline, too.

WATCH: Taysom Hill ices the game with third-longest rush in Saints’ history

WATCH: Taysom Hill ices the game with one of the longest rushes in Saints history

The New Orleans Saints managed to pull away late against the Cleveland Browns, and things wrapped up with a 75-yard touchdown rush by Taysom Hill.

This run tied for the third longest in Saints’ history with Mark Ingram’s 75-yarder and behind George Rogers (79 yards) and Deuce McAllister (76 yards). The rush came with Hill in the wildcat spot, where he took the direct snap and ran around the left side, where pretty much noone was there to meet him and he ran all the way down the field for a touchdown.

And this sealed a victory for the Saints as they went up 35-14, and managed to get to a 4-7 record entering their Week 12 bye.

Taysom Hill’s stat line vs. Browns is the first of its kind since 1951

Taysom Hill’s stat line against the Browns is the first of its kind since 1951. You just don’t see many players with his skill set in this day and age:

How’s this for an old-school stat line? Taysom Hill leapt out early against the Cleveland Browns with a pass completion, rushing touchdown, and a kickoff return in Week 11’s New Orleans Saints game — before he threw an ill-advised interception down the middle of the field. You don’t see many players involved that often on both offense and special teams.

As noted by statistician and Saints fan Jeff Asher, Hill is the first player to check each of those boxes since Joe Geri did it back in 1951. A two-time Pro Bowler with the Pittsburgh Steelers who closed out his pro football career with the then-Chicago Cardinals in 1952, Geri played in a different era that Hill’s set of skills throws back to. He’s one of five different players who met these qualifiers from 1946 to 1951.

It feels like only a matter of time until the Saints get Hill involved defensively; former head coach Dennis Allen had said he’d consider playing Hill at linebacker, but it’s probably a long-shot to see Hill get in on all three phases regardless of who’s running the defense. He’s got a full plate as it is.

Taysom Hill climbs higher among Saints’ all-time leading scorers

Taysom Hill added to his legacy in Sunday’s contest against the Browns, breaking his tie with Pierre Thomas in the Saints’ all-time record books:

Taysom Hill is rungs higher on the list of all-time leading scorers with his 10-yard rushing touchdown against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Hill has now broken his tie with Pierre Thomas for touchdowns scored in Saints history. He now sits at ninth overall with 42 touchdowns combined between his efforts as a runner, receiver and returner, a perfect illustration of just how much of a Swiss army knife he truly is. Eric Martin is next ahead of him with 48 touchdowns scored.

Several teams have tried to replicate Hill over the years and have failed to this point, and it’s easy to get the sense there may never be another quite like him. The Saints get to reap the fortune of that at the rest of the league’s expense.

Sunday’s touchdown run marked the 13th rushing touchdown in his career.

Hill came into the game with 10 receptions on 14 targets for 100 yards, also totaling 130 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries.

How he continues to add to his legacy both in this game and down the rest of the schedule will be something to watch.

The Saints lead the Browns, 7-6 at the top of the second quarter.

Taysom Hill dominates the Saints’ opening drive vs. Browns

The Saints opened up Week 11 with the full Taysom Hill experience, including a physical touchdown run on their first drive:

The New Orleans Saints first drive of the game was the true Taysom Hill experience and it was capped off by a rushing touchdown by Hill.

The tight end has always been a Swiss Army Knife. It wasn’t until recently that he got a true position instead of just being a football player. He runs, catches and throws the football. He did all three on the opening drive.

To make things more impressive, it was on three consecutive drives. Klint Kubiak dialed up a reverse pass with Hill throwing to Kevin Austin. The next play, Derek Carr threw the ball to Hill. That was the second target of the game for Hill but his first catch.

To cap off the drive, Hill took a direct snap in for a touchdown. It was a six play drive. Hill had three touches and an additional target.

This touchdown breaks Hill’s tie with Saints legend Pierre Thomas for ninth most total touchdowns in Saints history. Hill is now six touchdowns away from Eric Martin at eighth place.

Taysom Hill hits important milestone with TD vs. Panthers

New Orleans Saints jack-of-all-trades Taysom Hill has hit a new personal milestone with his clutch touchdown against the Panthers:

New Orleans Saints jack-of-all-trades Taysom Hill has hit a new personal milestone during the team’s Sunday matchup against the Carolina Panthers, now totaling 41 career touchdowns. That ties him for ninth in the team record books with standout running back Pierre Thomas.

Hill came into the game totaling four receptions on seven targets for 23 yards over four appearances so far during the 2024 season. He also had carried the ball 18 times for 97 yards with two touchdowns.

In addition to that, Hill is credited with one forced fumble as well. In this particular game, he’s recorded two receptions for 26 yards with a long of 13 yards. For now, that makes him the team’s leading receiver.

He’s also the team’s second-leading rusher behind running back Alvin Kamara today with four carries for 16 yards and the touchdown.

The Saints currently hold a slight lead over the Panthers at halftime, at 13-10 over the first two quarters of action.

WATCH: Taysom Hill forces a safety for the Saints on a botched punt

Taysom Hill made an immediate impact in his first game back from injury. He forced a safety for the Saints after the Chargers botched a punt:

The New Orleans Saints’ defense and special teams started off strong against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8, with their first score of the day coming on a forced safety.

Los Angeles botched the snap on their second punt of the day, and Taysom Hill, who recently returned from injury, forced the punter to cough up the ball after an attempted recovery. That caused the ball to skid out of the endzone for a New Orleans safety, giving them an early 2-0 lead.

The Saints have not had a safety since 2020, which came in their matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. They will now look to build off their two point lead throughout the remainder of the matchup, and we will see if they can capitalize off of this rare occurrence.

Week 8 broadcast map: Will your station carry Saints vs. Chargers?

The New Orleans Saints’ Week 8 game against the Los Angeles Chargers is a strictly local affair per the 506 Sports broadcast maps:

The New Orleans Saints are back after a 10-day break since losing to the Denver Broncos on “Thursday Night Football.” This week, they square off with another AFC West team, the Los Angeles Chargers. New Orleans opened up Week 7 and the Chargers closed it on Monday night.

The Saints return a much healthier team than last time you saw them. They bring back key pieces, such as Chris Olave and Taysom Hill, to help Spencer Rattler in his third start. Improved health should to improved offense which hopefully leads to breaking a five-game losing streak.

The Saints’ trip to the West Coast results in the Saints first late kickoff of the season. Saints versus Chargers will air on FOX, but will you be able to catch it in your local area? Kickoff is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. CT on FOX.

If you’re in Louisiana or parts of its neighboring states, the answer is yes. The Los Angeles to San Diego area is also showing the game on local channels. Per 506 Sports, only local areas are televising the game. Chargers vs. Saints, unsurprisingly, doesn’t have much national appeal.

Coverage of this week’s game is reflected in green on this map from 506 Sports. See if you’ll catch the broadcast from your local FOX affiliate station:

Rookie Saints QB will have his best supporting cast in Week 8

Spencer Rattler is finally getting a stronger supporting cast in what will likely be his last start. The Saints’ rookie QB must make the most of this opportunity:

Week 8 is probably Spencer Rattler’s last start of the season, barring any setbacks or another injury to starting quarterback Derek Carr. It’s also the first time to get a real evaluation of Rattler.

The New Orleans Saints’ injury woes have been a frequent topic of discussion and the biggest losses have been on the offensive side of the ball. Rattler has played both of his starts without starting offensive linemen Erik McCoy, Lucas Patrick and Cesar Ruiz.

Rattler played with star wideout Chris Olave for just three snaps, and he only had Rashid Shaheed for a game. Do-it-all tight end/fullback Taysom Hill hasn’t taken the field during Rattler’s short run as starter.

Outside of McCoy and Shaheed, all of those pieces are coming back this week. For the first time, fans will see Rattler with multiple reliable weapons and, hopefully, consistent protection.

It’s one thing for a veteran to play without some of these pieces. That’s a rough position to put an experienced passer in. It’s even a bigger challenge to ask a rookie to start his career with an empty cabinet.

Rattler’s stretch of starts may end Sunday with Carr expected back next  week. Luckily for him, it’s his best chance at showcasing his potential before Carr returns.
