Panthers WR Diontae Johnson misses 2nd straight practice on Thursday

Panthers WR Diontae Johnson was held out of practice once again on Thursday.

The Carolina Panthers were without their No. 1 receiver for the second straight day this week.

After being held out of Wednesday’s practice, wideout Diontae Johnson did not participate in Thursday’s session. Johnson—who leads the team in receptions (29), receiving yards (340) and receiving touchdowns (three)—has been dealing with an ankle injury.

Fellow starter and outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney also remained sidelined. The three-time Pro Bowler injured his shoulder during the Week 5 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Joining them was right tackle Taylor Moton, who missed the very first game of his NFL career this past Sunday due to an elbow issue.

Panthers WR Diontae Johnson, 8 others held out from Wednesday’s practice

WR Diontae Johnson and OT Taylor Moton were among the 9 Panthers who did not participate in today’s practice.

(This story was updated to add new information.)

The Carolina Panthers are beginning Week 7 with one heck of an injury report.

Eight players, including wideout Diontae Johnson and right tackle Taylor Moton, were held out of this afternoon’s practice.

Johnson, per head coach Dave Canales, is expected to be back for Thursday’s session. The team’s leading receiver has been nursing ankle and groin injuries throughout the season.

Moton, meanwhile, remains “day-to-day.” The eighth-year hog molly missed the very first game of his NFL career this past Sunday due to a triceps injury.

Outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, who missed Week 6’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons, also did not participate. (Clowney’s initial listing as a “limited’ participant was officially changed by the team following the release of today’s injury report.)

Panthers Week 6 inactives: Jadeveon Clowney out vs. Falcons

The Panthers will be without a handful of starters this afternoon against the Falcons.

The Carolina Panthers will have to dig deep off the edge this afternoon.

As expected, starting outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney will not suit up for Sunday’s divisional clash against the visiting Atlanta Falcons. Clowney, who sustained a shoulder injury in the Week 5 loss to the Chicago Bears, did not participate in practice throughout the week and was listed as doubtful for the contest.

To help at the position, the Panthers added seventh-year pass rusher Marquis Haynes Sr. to the active roster on Saturday. Haynes Sr., after spending his first six seasons in Carolina, rejoined the organization as a member of the practice squad on Oct. 4.

Along with Clowney, the Panthers will also be without three more starters in tight end Tommy Tremble, inside linebacker Josey Jewell and right tackle Taylor Moton—who will miss the very first game of his NFL career.

Here is the full list of inactives for the Panthers in Week 6:

  • CB Shemar Bartholomew
  • OLB Jadeveon Clowney
  • LB Josey Jewell
  • G Jarrett Kingston
  • OT Taylor Moton
  • C Andrew Raym
  • TE Tommy Tremble

And for Atlanta:

  • LB Troy Andersen
  • DL Brandon Dorlus
  • OL Jovaughn Gwyn
  • RB Jase McClellan
  • OT Brandon Parker
  • DL Kentavius Street
  • OL Elijah Wilkinson

Panthers Week 6 injury report: 5 players ruled out vs. Falcons

Panthers OLB Jadeveon Clowney may not be ready to go for Sunday’s matchup against the Falcons.

The anemic pass rush of the Carolina Panthers will probably be a whole lot weaker in Week 6.

After missing out on a third straight practice, starting outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney has been ruled doubtful for Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The three-time Pro Bowler has been sidelined due to a shoulder injury he sustained in the Week 5 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Outside of Clowney, the Panthers are currently carrying four edge rushers on their active roster—Charles Harris, Thomas Incoom, Tarron Jackson and DJ Johnson. Carolina has also recently signed Marquis Haynes Sr. and former first-round pick Shaq Lawson to their practice squad.

The Panthers have ruled out five players for the contest—tight end Tommy Tremble, centers Austin Corbett and Andrew Raym, right tackle Taylor Moton and inside linebacker Josey Jewell. Moton is set to miss the first game of his eight-year NFL career.

Jadeveon Clowney among 7 Panthers held out of practice on Thursday

Panthers OLB Jadeveon Clowney did not participate for a second straight practice.

Thursday’s injury report doesn’t seem to be all that encouraging for the Carolina Panthers. In fact, it appears to be a bit worse.

After holding out six players from Wednesday’s session, the team has listed seven non-participants from this afternoon. Joining the group, which already includes a few starters on defense, is defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson—who was limited with an ankle issue yesterday.

Perhaps the most concerning absence is that of outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, who injured his shoulder in the Week 5 loss to the Chicago Bears. The Panthers are exceptionally thin off the edge and have amassed just six sacks over five games in 2024.

Panthers hold out handful of starters from Wednesday’s practice

Panthers OLB Jadeveon Clowney was amongst the starters who did not participate in practice this afternoon.

The Carolina Panthers were a bit shorthanded to kick off Week 6.

Wednesday’s practice did not include a handful of the team’s starters. Tight end Tommy Tremble (concussion), right tackle Taylor Moton (elbow), outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (shoulder) and inside linebacker Josey Jewell (hamstring/groin) were all listed as non-participants.

Also out, as expected, was center Austin Corbett—who tore his biceps in the Week 5 loss to the Chicago Bears. Corbett will be placed on the season-ending injured reserve.

Panthers OT Taylor Moton’s impressive career-long streak will come to an end

Panthers OT Taylor Moton has played in 120 of a possible 120 games since being drafted. He will not get to No. 121 in Week 6.

Even an ironman can be vulnerable at times.

Carolina Panthers starting right tackle Taylor Moton left yesterday’s loss to the Chicago Bears with what was first listed as an elbow injury. Well, it turns out Moton is dealing with a triceps issue—one that is expected to sideline him for the very first time in his eight-year NFL career.

Head coach Dave Canales told reporters on Monday that Moton is considered “week-to-week” and will not play in the team’s upcoming matchup against the NFC South rival Atlanta Falcons. The 30-year-old has played in 120 of a possible 120 games since Carolina drafted him in 2017.

Not only has Moton appeared in every outing since becoming a pro, but he also hadn’t missed an offensive snap in the 76 contests prior to Sunday’s defeat in Chicago. Moton played each and every offensive down from Week 13 of the 2019 season up until his departure yesterday afternoon.

Per Canales, Yosh Nijman will start in place of Moton in Week 6.

Panthers HC Dave Canales provides injury updates following Week 5 loss to Bears

The Panthers are dealing with a handful of new injuries following their Week 5 defeat to the Bears.

The Carolina Panthers left the Windy City beaten in more ways than one on Sunday.

Head coach Dave Canales took the lectern this afternoon to provide some updates on his team following their 36-10 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 5. The most notable bit concerned center Austin Corbett, whose 2024 season will now come to a close after he tore his biceps in the defeat.

“Again, just another blow,” Canales told reporters. “With a guy that just stands for everything that I believe in—the work ethic, the practice habits, the professionalism, his positive outlook in terms of what can be on the next drive, just continuing to work and control the things that he can control. So my heart is with Austin.”

Canales would then relay some relatively positive news on fellow offensive lineman Taylor Moton, who injured his triceps. Moton is considered “week-to-week” and is expected miss Carolina’s outing against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Week 6 would, in turn, mark the first missed game of Moton’s eight-year NFL career.

In addition, rookie wide receiver Xavier Legette and outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney are “day-to-day” with shoulder injuries while tight end Tommy Tremble is currently in concussion protocol.

Panthers Week 5 injury report: 3 players ruled out vs. Bears

The Panthers have ruled out three players ahead of Sunday’s visit to Chicago.

As expected, the Carolina Panthers have ruled out starting middle linebackers Shaq Thompson and Josey Jewell from their Week 5 matchup against the Chicago Bears. Thompson will miss the remainder of the campaign with a torn Achilles tendon while Jewell has been sidelined with hamstring and groin injuries.

2024 third-round pick and rookie ‘backer Trevin Wallace is in line to get his first career start in the middle of Carolina’s defense. Veterans Claudin Cherelus and Chandler Wooten, who was promoted to the active roster on Tuesday, should also help fill in for Thompson and Jewell.

In addition, head coach Dave Canales told reporters following today’s practice that all players who have been listed as questionable are likely to play.
