Farmers Insurance Open champ Matthieu Pavon draws inspiration from tattoo on his hand

Pavon’s hand tattoo gives him a visual reminder every time he addresses the ball.

Matthieu Pavon is not the only golfer on the PGA Tour with a tattoo but he might be one of the few with one that gives him a visual reminder every time he addresses the ball.

Pavon, a 31-year-old rookie who won the Farmers Insurance Open for his first win on Tour, has an inscription on his right hand that reads: “The saliva that flows now will become the tears of joy tomorrow.”

Pavon is a native of France, and the first from his country to win on the PGA Tour. Notably, the tattoo on his hand is written in English.

It’s not just the tattoo that inspires him. He says he often writes things down and then refers back to those thoughts often.

“It’s all about motivations. For me, it’s really important to have everything clear in my mind,” he said. “Since I won in Spain last year, I write down some notes in my book which bring me back to the present moment. You know how it is on the golf course, sometimes your head flies away a little bit and you have to get back to the present moment to refocus yourself. Sentences like they are telling me why I play golf, why I’m here. … they give me a little extra confidence.”

That confidence has been flowing so far in 2024. Pavon tied for seventh two weeks ago at the Sony Open in Hawaii and then tied for 39th at the American Express before breaking through at Torrey Pines, the longest course on the PGA Tour and the most difficult non-major venue from last season.

What added to Pavon’s challenge of seeing the golf course for the first time were the wet and foggy conditions early in the week.

“When I showed up, it was foggy. I mean, I couldn’t see 100 yards away from me, so I was like, ‘OK, nice, welcome to California,'” he said. “When we get to Friday [for the third round] it as like, oh, there is a fairway, there is the rough, there is a cliff. So everything was kind of brand new for me. … I just discovered the golf course totally on Friday.”

And then he discovered how to win on the PGA Tour.

LOOK: Cowboys’ Lamb gets back tattoo honoring Kobe, I-45 corridor

The Cowboys star receiver’s new tattoo won’t be visible on the field, but it’s a work worth taking a look at. | From @CDBurnett7

The Cowboys watched the rise of wide receiver CeeDee Lamb into a bona fide star in 2022. The third-year man out of Oklahoma responded to the loss of running mate Amari Cooper with the best year of his career, a team-leading 107 catches for 1,359 yards and nine touchdown grabs. Lamb was lone bright spot on offense in the divisional round loss to the 49ers with 10 catches for 117 yards.

This astonishing season earned Lamb second-team All-Pro honors and he’ll be earning a big payday in the next year or so. A large part of Lamb’s star power is his identity and swagger on the field with an endless bag of celebrations and the football aesthetics to match. This week, he added to it with an extensive tattoo piece on his back.

The artwork was completed by four artists working at once and it features an ode to the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant, a gladiator helmet and a lion’s roar, not to mention homage to I-45, the corridor that links Houston to Dallas and all parts in between. The words “my story isn’t over” also match Lamb’s career with plenty of time to evolve his already impressive resumé at 23 years old. While it won’t be on display while he’s catching touchdowns, it’s an astounding piece of art.

18-year-old who got a 2022 Celtics championship banner tattoo said he won’t remove it

The tattoo is staying.

The reason a site like Bet For The Win can exist is because it’s fairly easy to find people with an interest in gambling money on sports. What’s not as easy is finding people willing to gamble the real estate of their body.

Occasionally, however, we catch wind of an over-exuberant fan who does just that, proclaiming their faith in a team to reach the peak of their sport with the ultimate sacrifice of flesh. That’s what Jack Bienvenue did back in March, long before the masses believed his Boston Celtics could contend for a title. The 18-year-old got a Celtics 2022 World Champions banner tattooed on his left bicep.

Well, his bold premonition was two games away from becoming true, but Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors ultimately kept the Celtics from completing the job. Now Bienvenue has a tattoo of something that simply never came to fruition, and he plans to keep it.

“And i know everyone is wondering about the tattoo, im honestly not thinking much about it right now, and it’s not a huge deal to me,” he said in an Instagram Story post after Game 6. “This year has givin me some of the worst and some of the best moments of my life, and a lot of those best moments involve the tattoo. So no it will not be removed.”

You can’t really blame Bienvenue for that perspective. It was still a great run for the Celtics, and as he told The Athletic, if they win it all next year, he can simply have the tattoo altered from 2022 to 2023.

LOOK: Josh Jacobs gets Raiders tattoo after rookie season

Former Alabama star running back Josh Jacobs posts picture of his new tattoo which shows the Las Vegas Raiders will always be a part of him

Former Alabama standout running back Josh Jacobs finished a successful rookie season with the then-Oakland Raiders.

Many NFL fans were upset when Jacobs was not award Offensive Rookie of the Year after the 2019 season which consisted of 1,150 rushing yards, seven touchdowns and an average of almost 90 yards per game for the Alabama product.

He is celebrated as one of the young players that has potential to blossom into an all-pro running back. Jacobs seems to want to go down that path while wearing a Las Vegas Raiders uniform.

Jacobs posted a picture on his Instagram story which shows the Raiders logo tattooed on his arm with the caption “#raidernation.”

Jacobs was not the only Raider to get a tattoo after his rookie season. Defensive end Clelin Ferrell, who was also a 2019 first-round pick by Oakland, got the same tattoo.

Jacobs is poised to have a strong sophomore season and Roll Tide Wire will keep you updated on his experience throughout year No. 2 in the NFL.
