Georgia baseball blows 9-0 lead, loses 19-9 vs. No. 1 Texas A&M

Georgia baseball blows 9-0 lead, allows 19 consecutive runs to No. 1 Texas A&M

No. 17 Georgia baseball picked up a big win over No. 4 Clemson earlier in the week. However, Georgia has already dropped its road series at No. 1 Texas A&M.

Star first baseman Charlie Condon hit home run No. 28 as Georgia jumped out to a 9-0 lead over Texas A&M. Georgia’s lead did not last long as the Aggies scored 19 unanswered runs to clinch the series over Georgia. The Aggies ended the game with the run rule in the seventh inning.

Georgia’s road loss drops the Bulldogs to 30-12 ahead of Saturday’s double header. Georgia will look to salvage one game in the second half of Saturday’s doubleheader against Texas A&M, who defeated Georgia 5-2 on Friday, April 26.

From Friends to Foes: Photos of Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher together over the years

The two coaches used to share laughs at midfield, but will now have plenty of tension whenever forced to face each other. See pictures of how they used to friendly coexist.

College football fans from around the country, no matter where their fandom resides, will remember May 19, 2022. Near the dead middle of the offseason the sport took over headlines despite games still being months away from kicking off.

On the preceding evening, Alabama head coach Nick Saban discussed the state of college football and specifically named numerous programs that have allegedly utilized the NCAA’s name, image, likeness (NIL) policies in a way that wasn’t originally intended.

Point blank: Saban said that Texas A&M had the nation’s top recruiting class because their top commits were bought.

Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher took great offense to this claim and held a special press conference, where he spent nearly 10 minutes talking about Saban’s accusation, the relationship they once held and how that bridge has been burnt.

The two coaches once had a close bond, or so it seemed. Fisher worked on the offensive staff at LSU under Saban, who was the Tigers head coach at the time.

Numerous cordial interactions have taken place between the coaches. Fisher became the head coach at Florida State and Saban landed the Crimson Tide head coaching gig. After a decade in Tallahassee and seven years as the Seminoles head coach, Fisher made the move to the SEC and joined Texas A&M, where they would face off annually.

Today, it became clear that tension will exist for as long as Saban and Fisher are around. Comments made during the press conference didn’t just defend the Aggies program, but called Saban’s integrity into question.

Here’s a look at how they’ve interacted in the past, while still on friendly terms.

LOOK: Nick Saban stands firm in his NIL opinion, apologizes for singling out programs

Nick Saban addressed his controversial comments regarding NIL, Texas A&M and Jackson State.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban called out Texas A&M, Jackson State and Miami for how they have utilized the newly-passed name, image, likeness (NIL) policy. While it was originally intend for student-athletes to use their personal brands to land endorsements and sponsorship deals, it is allegedly being used by some as a way to entice recruits to commit to their program.

Saban referenced that the Crimson Tide’s 2022 recruiting class finished the cycle as the second-ranked class behind the Aggies out of College Station. He cites ‘buying players’ as the reason as to why that is.

Jimbo Fisher held a very heated press conference where he called out Saban. Even going as far as calling him a narcissist, that he should have been slapped as a child, needs to have his past looked into and that he’s done talking with the seven-time national championship-winning head coach.

Saban went on the radio to clarify some things. Here’s what he had to say.

Everything Nick Saban said about NIL that has the nation in a stir

Alabama HC Nick Saban did not hold back when calling out numerous programs by name for buying players on the recruiting trail.

Texas A&M posted the best recruiting class of all-time in the 2022 cycle, which turned many heads to say the least. Outside of the 2019 class when they finished fourth, they haven’t even finished in the top five in the 21st century! However, the new name image and likeness (NIL) deals have completely changed the game.

At an event with local business leaders in Birmingham Wednesday night, Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban took a couple shots at Jimbo Fisher and his Aggies.

Last season, 25 Alabama players earned NIL revenue that came out to about $3 million total, and added that the Tide went about it “the right way.”

Saban’s comments have spread like wildfire overnight. Now, other head coaches are responding via Twitter or press conferences.

SEC power rankings: Alabama just beats LSU, Aggies beat Auburn, Florida blown out

SEC power rankings…Florida is very low.

What a weekend it was in the SEC.

Georgia took care of business in a blowout win over Missouri, but after that there was plenty of excitement, especially in Tuscaloosa, where Alabama held on late to beat an unranked LSU team 20-14. Texas A&M’s defense was elite in a win over Auburn. Florida was blown out by South Carolina (wow). Arkansas beat Mississippi State by 3 points, and Tennessee also beat Kentucky by 3 points. Ole Miss beat Liberty in Hugh Freeze’s return to Oxford.

Here are our SEC power rankings after a great week of football in the conference.

CFB Playoff Rankings: Alabama remains on top

The Alabama Crimson Tide remains as the No. 1 team in the nation in the second College Football Playoffs . They will face off against LSU…

Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide football team remain the No. 1 team in the nation, according to the latest College Football Playoff rankings, as released on ESPN.

Alabama was named No. 1 last week by the College Football Playoff committee in their first rankings of the 2020 season.

The Crimson Tide entered the 2020 Iron Bowl against No. 22 Auburn last Saturday and did not show any signs of slowing down as the season heads toward the home stretch.

There is some company alongside Alabama in the top four. If the season ended today, here is who would be in the playoffs in contention for a National Championship:

  1. Alabama
  2. Notre Dame
  3. Clemson
  4. Ohio State

The first two out: (5) Texas A&M and (6) Florida are still in the running and could see a potential shake up inside the top four and sneak their way into the playoffs.

Alabama will head to Baton Rouge as the top team in the nation to face off against LSU.

Kirby Smart addresses Georgia football’s offensive woes

Georgia faithful still wonder how the much longer the Dawgs’ D can bail out the struggling offense.

Georgia’s 2019 defense is a statistical anomaly. The Junkyard Dawgs will enter their final regular season game ranked fifth in total defense, second in rushing defense, seventh in passing efficiency defense, and have only allowed one rushing touchdown.

The Bulldog Nation thoroughly enjoys watching a defense that can guarantee a win requiring only 21 points. Georgia is one of two teams (Clemson being the other) that hasn’t given up more than 20 points thus far this season.

That said, Georgia faithful still wonder how the much longer the Dawgs’ D can bail out the struggling offense.

Head coach Kirby Smart acknowledged the fans’ echoed concerns after the Silver Britches’ lackluster offense.

“There were things [against Texas A&M] that we missed that were there. That’s the frustrating thing.”

He continued: “You get an opportunity on first and ten to make the plays that we had, and you’ve got to make those.”

Smart, obviously aware of the situation, added that “some of that had nothing to to with the calls…it had to do with execution.”

“[The defense] got tired toward the end of the game. We’re going to have to overcome that, because two weeks in a row now, we’ve kind of lost momentum late and struggled on a couple drives.”

Quarterback Jake Fromm has thrown under 50% for three consecutive games. Compared to his career percentage of 65.5%, the current trend is surprising.

“Offensively, we’ve got to improve. There’s no bones about it.” Smart The message this week is that the next step is the most important step.”

Twitter reacts to Georgia football’s win over TAMU

Twitter reacts as Georgia football beat Texas A&M.

Georgia football advanced to 10-1 with a win over Texas A&M on Saturday night.

With that win, Georgia closed out SEC play with a record of 7-1 and looks to advance to an overall 11-1 mark with a win over Georgia Tech on Saturday.

The Bulldogs, who will have a chance to take home the SEC Championship for the second time in three years two weeks from now vs LSU, will enjoy their win over the Aggies before getting back to work for Tech.

The game was not pretty at all. The offense played, well, poorly – aside from Rodrigo Blankenship that is.

But the Georgia strategy, as frustrating and questionable as it may be, has worked.

What’s that strategy, you ask?

Play great defense and just good enough offense.

Here are some social media reactions to the Georgia win:

Georgia vs TAMU: Jake Fromm hits George Pickens for game’s first touchdown

Georgia football QB Jake Fromm hits UGA WR George Pickens for a TD vs Texas A&M.

After an ugly first 20 minutes of football in the Georgia vs Texas A&M game, Jake Fromm and the Bulldogs’ offense were finally able to put together a drive that resulted in a touchdown.

Fromm had struggled all first half until eventually he hit Tyler Simmons on the sideline for a 27 yard gain on a back shoulder pass. The next play, Fromm hit Kearis Jackson on the same play but to the other sideline for a gain of 22.

Next thing we knew, Fromm had the Bulldogs offense in the red zone, where he was able to hit freshman George Pickens for a 16 yard touchdown.
