Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes comments on Super Bowl LIX performance: ‘I have to get better’

Kansas City #Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes comments on Super Bowl LIX performance: ‘I have to get better’ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs’ disappointing loss in Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles exposed several issues the team has overcome all season. Patrick Mahomes battled through the game, but mistakes and poor offensive line play were the story. At his postgame press conference, he spoke to reporters about his play.

“I feel like I didn’t play to my standard, especially with the struggles that I had early in the season,” said Mahomes. “And so there’s things that I have to get better at, and they kind of showed today and on the biggest stage. And so I want to find a way this all season to combat what defenses are doing to me as far as rush lanes and different coverages that they’re playing.”

Mahomes completed 21 passes for 257 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions (one of which was a pick-six). He also led the team in rushing with 25 yards as the running game never got going with Kareem Hunt or Isiah Pacheco.

“That’s the beauty of football, is that you never can be satisfied with just going out there and playing and thinking you’re going to have success year in and year out; these defenses are going to continue to get better and better,” said Mahomes. “So I have to get better. And so I take a lot of ownership in that, and I want to hopefully come back and play better football this next season.”

Due to his drop in production, Mahomes wasn’t selected for the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career as a starter during the 2024 season. Next season, an extra-motivated Mahomes will seek a bounce-back performance.

Did the Commanders’ Adam Peters offer former Eagles cornerback a contract?

Veteran NFL cornerback says he didn’t sign with Commanders last offseason because he loved the Eagles “too much.” Yet

Did the Washington Commanders pursue the former Eagles’ cornerback Bradley Roby?

Last offseason, Commanders GM Adam Peters was indeed very busy nearly entirely making over and reconstructing the Commanders’ roster, ridding himself of many players Ron Rivera brought to Ashburn.

Interestingly enough, veteran cornerback Bradley Roby tweeted Sunday afternoon, implying he could have signed with the Commanders last offseason but refused to ink a deal with Washington.

Roby tweeted, “Didn’t sign to commanders this year bc I loved it in Philly too much and knew Eagles was destined for the ring this yr ! Gotta bring it home today.”

It is true; Roby was an unrestricted free agent last spring. In addition, I find no record that Roby signed with any NFL team during the free agency signing period, the summer offseason, or during this 2024 season.

So, why did Roby declare he didn’t sign with the Commanders because he loved Philly too much? Do we know that the Commanders even offered Roby a contract? Roby says he loved Philly so much. Thus, if Philly had offered him a deal, he would have signed with the Eagles, correct?

Whatever the truth is regarding the Commanders and Roby, the one truth we do know is that no team signed Roby all year, including the Eagles.

Thus, a logical question would be, “Was Roby tweeting he didn’t sign with the Commanders simply to get attention on Super Bowl Sunday?”

If so, Commanders Wire is not providing him the attention he desires. The Eagles never re-signed Roby, either. Therefore, is Roby attempting to claim the Eagles are his NFL team?

Actually, Roby, in his 10 NFL seasons, was with the Eagles only one season (2023) when he appeared in nine games, starting two.

Roby was drafted by the Broncos 31st overall in the 2014 draft out of Ohio State. Roby played five seasons with the Broncos, then played two years for the Texans, two with the Saints, and the lone 2023 season with the Eagles.

Adam Peters not signing Roby appears to have been the right move by Peters because no one else signed Roby either.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes responds to Super Bowl LIX loss: ‘I let y’all down today’

See what #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes told his fans on Twitter after Kansas City’s loss to the Philadelphia #Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was quick to send a message to his fans on Twitter after the Philadelphia Eagles utterly dismantled the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Mahomes threw two interceptions early in the game, keeping his team on the back foot. He took the blame for Kansas City’s loss while reassuring his supporters that he and the Chiefs would be back in the Super Bowl.

Though Mahomes finally broke through to score 22 points in the second half of Super Bowl LIX, his heroic comeback effort wasn’t enough to lift Kansas City to victory.

Check out the veteran quarterback’s full statement below:

In a team sport, no loss can be blamed on a single player, and while Mahomes’ mistakes were costly, the Chiefs’ performance was less than impressive on both sides of the ball.

Expect Mahomes to take note of any criticism he faces after Kansas City’s Super Bowl LIX loss as he looks to the future and charts the Chiefs’ next path to a championship.

Eagles generated 16 pressures, 6 sacks in Super Bowl LIX without blitzing Chiefs

The #Eagles generated 16 pressures and six sacks against Kansas City in Super Bowl LIX without blitzing #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.

The Philadelphia Eagles consistently pressured Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LIX, but they didn’t have to do anything creative to keep him under duress.

According to a post by Next Gen Stats on Twitter, Philadelphia didn’t send more than a four-man pass rush throughout the game, marking just the fourth time that a team didn’t send a blitz in the Next Gen Stats era.

Mahomes was pressured 16 times in Super Bowl LIX, and the Eagles tallied six sacks in their winning effort against Kansas City.

Check out Next Gen Stats’ post about Philadelphia’s unconventional approach below:

Though the Eagles conceded 22 points to the Chiefs late in the game, the outright dominance of Philadelphia’s front four ultimately proved too much for Kansas City to overcome.

Stay tuned to see how Chiefs general manager Brett Veach decides to fix Kansas City’s offensive line in the coming months ahead of the 2025 season.

Tom Brady’s Super Bowl LIX commentary had NFL fans missing Greg Olsen

Panthers great Greg Olsen was sorely missed during FOX’s broadcast of Super Bowl LIX.

Tom Brady may be the “G.O.A.T.” of the gridiron, but the same cannot be said—at least for now—about his abilities in the broadcast booth. That title, rather, may currently belong to a Carolina Panthers great.

FOX’s presentation of the Philadelphia Eagles’ dominant Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs had its A-squad on the call, with Kevin Burkhardt on play-by-play duties and Brady on analysis. That two-man team looked a bit different just a few years ago, as former Panthers tight end Greg Olsen was the network’s No. 1 color commentator in the last Chiefs-Eagles showdown.

Olsen, however, was bumped away from Burkhardt beginning this season—leaving the top spot to Brady. And since then, fans have missed the two-time Emmy Award-winning broadcaster.

Sunday night was no different . . .

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy was electric in K.C.’s Super Bowl LIX loss to Eagles

#Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy was a top performer in Kansas City’s loss to the Philadelphia #Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

The Kansas City Chiefs were throttled by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, but the performance of rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy was a development that fans in Western Missouri can be pleased with.

Worthy was targeted eight times in the game, and caught all four of the passes thrown his way. By the end of Super Bowl LIX, Worthy gained 157 yards and scored two touchdowns, which helped make Kansas City’s loss look a bit less embarrassing on paper.

Though it took some time for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to find Worthy downfield, the rookie made the most of every opportunity he was given.

Check out these videos of Worthy’s outstanding touchdown receptions:

Worthy was the Chiefs’ first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and managed to exceed the sky-high expectations placed on him when he joined the then-defending Super Bowl champions.

Though Kansas City’s loss will sting for the foreseeable future, Worthy’s incredible performance in Super Bowl LIX will forever be a part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl history.

X reacts to Eagles beatdown of Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX

X reacts to Eagles’ win over Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX from a Commanders’ perspective.

For Washington Commanders fans, watching this year’s Super Bowl felt slightly different. After winning 12 games and two playoff games, the Commanders were one game short of appearing in their first Super Bowl in 33 years.

Unfortunately for Washington, it ran into the Philadelphia Eagles. Turnovers plagued the Commanders in their third matchup against the Eagles, allowing Philly to come away with a blowout win. That led to a rematch in Super Bowl LIX between the Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles and Chiefs met two years ago, with Kansas City coming away with a 38-35 win.

Sunday’s rematch proved to be a far different result, though, with the Eagles steamrolling the Chiefs 40-22 for their second Super Bowl championship in franchise history.

The game was never competitive, with Philadelphia owning a 24-0 halftime lead. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes struggled, throwing two first-half interceptions. While Mahomes finished the game with three touchdown passes, his final numbers were deceptive as he didn’t lead the Chiefs to their first score until they were already down 34-0.

Washington fans were not rooting for the Eagles. But many Commanders’ fans couldn’t help but wonder, “What could have been.” Could Washington have beaten Kansas City?

One thing was clear: the Commanders’ offense looked much better against Philly’s vaunted defense. Even with 10 turnovers in their three meetings against the Eagles, Jayden Daniels and the Commanders averaged 26 points per game against Philadelphia.

We took to X after the Eagles’ victory to see how some viewed this game from a Commanders’ perspective.

Final score: Eagles defeat Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX

The Philadelphia #Eagles defeated the Kansas City #Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX.

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025.

The game’s 40-22 final score wasn’t totally indicative of just how dominant Philadelphia was on both sides of the ball throughout the Super Bowl matchup.

If not for three late touchdown passes by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Eagles would have shut out Kansas City in one of the most lopsided Super Bowl contests in recent memory.

Mahomes threw two game-changing interceptions in the first half of the game that helped Philadelphia get out to a massive lead before halftime.

Though the Chiefs had become experts at grinding out comeback wins throughout their 2024 campaign, Kansas City was completely outmatched at every turn in Super Bowl LIX.

Despite the Chiefs’ generally poor performance in the championship game, there were still a few bright spots that Kansas City’s fans can take solace in as the team heads into the offseason.

Rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy caught all eight of the passes that were thrown his way and scored two touchdowns while picking up 157 yards.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes finds WR Xavier Worthy for second Super Bowl TD

#Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy scored an incredible touchdown in the fourth quarter of Kansas City’s loss to the #Eagles in Super Bowl LIX

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense finally got into gear in the fourth quarter of their blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

Though star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was unable to move Kansas City’s offense downfield in the game’s first three quarters, he was able to find rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the end zone late in the game’s final frame.

The catch marked Worthy’s second touchdown reception of the game, which was one of the only bright spots in an otherwise embarrassing loss for the Chiefs.

Take a look at this video of Worthy’s outstanding touchdown catch:

This touchdown may have helped Kansas City’s comeback effort if it had been scored earlier in Sunday’s game, but ultimately it didn’t make any difference for the Chiefs, who would go on to lose Super Bowl LIX 40-22.

Stay tuned to see what Kansas City’s players and coaches have to say about the rookie’s performance after the game.
