Two Notre Dame freshmen ruled out for season with shoulder injuries

Tough break for these players.

No injury ever is a good thing, but one on your shoulder in particular prevents you doing almost everything on a football field. That has become the reality for a pair of Notre Dame freshmen on opposite sides of the ball. Those freshmen are safety [autotag]Taebron Bennie-Powell[/autotag] and offensive lineman [autotag]Styles Prescod[/autotag].

Two days before the Irish were set to open their season against Texas A&M, they gave injury updates on those two along with freshman safety [autotag]Tae Johnson[/autotag]. While the prognosis for Johnson’s season is more promising, the same can’t be said for Bennie-Powell and Prescod per this release:

This undoubtedly is a tough break for both players considering they were so close to the season starting. Alas, they’ll have to wait another year to make their college football debuts.

From the Irish’s perspective, while they have enough talent in their secondary, the depth to their offensive line has taken yet another hit. We’ll see how much, if at all, the numerous injuries to that unit become a liability to the team.

Scout’s view: Notre Dame football’s newest commit, tackle Guerby Lambert

Yet another big time tackle prospect will land in South Bend

[autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag]’s offensive line just got a bit more depth on Tuesday evening as Massachusetts offensive tackle [autotag]Guerby Lambert[/autotag] committed to the Irish.

The 2024 prospect is a tackle all the way, standing 6-foot, 6-inches and weighing 280-pounds. The Irish beat out Ohio State and Harvard for Lambert’s verbal.

The final piece of the 2024 classes offensive line commitments as he joins [autotag]Peter Jones[/autotag], [autotag]Styles Prescod[/autotag], and [autotag]Anthonie Knapp[/autotag]. Lambert is the highest ranked prospect of the bunch, as he’s the No. 8 tackle and 117th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

After watching his junior film, it’s easy to see why many believe he is one of the best players in the country. Find out below what skills Lambert will bring with him to South Bend.

College football recruiting: Is Ohio State taking over Notre Dame country?

Is Notre Dame doing a good enough job in their home state or does it really matter?

If you follow high school football or college recruiting whatsoever you’re aware that Notre Dame recruits as much nationally as any team in the country.  No, just because Notre Dame shows up doesn’t mean a kid is coming like it was believed to mean decades ago, but it clearly carries significant weight.

With that in mind, how much of a fence has Marcus Freeman been able to put around the state of Indiana early on?

Admitidly, Indiana isn’t Texas, California, Georgia, or Florida.

Heck, it’s not Louisiana, Ohio, or plenty of others.

I was a bit curious though with the recent addition of offensive lineman [autotag]Styles Prescod[/autotag] to Notre Dame’s 2024 class.  How have the Irish done in locking up in-state talent?

Well, it appears they’ll have at least one of Indiana’s top players in the 2024 cycle and very possibly a second.  But did they lose by a couple of the very top ranked players leaving for a bordering state?

I know we like to say that “a fence has to be put around the home state” in regards to any big-time program but is batting .333 (potentially .500) on players offered here fine?  Or does that fact that both No. 1 and No. 2 declined mean more?

Here are the top-10 recruits from Indiana in the 2024 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings and where each player is committed.

Scout’s view: Notre Dame’s newest commitment, offensive lineman Styles Prescod

The Irish grabbed a commit from a lineman with a lot of upside

[autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] landed yet another high level offensive lineman when in-state tackle [autotag]Styles Prescod[/autotag] verballed to the Irish on Tuesday afternoon.

Prescod became the 19th overall commit and third offensive lineman of the class. He is the second tackle of the group and second highest rated also. Prescod has great size for the position, standing 6-foot, 6-inches and weighing 280 pounds.

The Indiana native had plenty of big time offers and the Irish will welcome in one of the Midwest’s best. Find out below what I saw from watching Prescod’s junior highlight film along with what to expect early in his Notre Dame career.

Notre Dame lands four-star offensive lineman from Indy

Homegrown!

Notre Dame proved successful in putting a fence around the state of Indiana and not letting homegrown talent get away.  That became true Tuesday as four-star offensive lineman [autotag]Styles Prescod[/autotag].

Prescod becomes the first offensive tackle to join Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class that is now made up of 19 commitments.

Prescod is a load, checking in at 6-6, 270-pounds and comes from Hamilton Southeastern High School in Indiana.  Prescod has nearly 30 Division I offers and was supposed to make a visit to Colorado later this month.

The offer list for Prescod reeks of a top talent.  Alabama, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, and Wisconsin were just some of the teams to have offered him.  On3 ranks him as the 189th overall player in the class while the 247Sports composite puts him at No. 283 overall and the 26th best tackle.

Recruiting expert ‘crystal balls’ 8 prospects to Notre Dame

Who will be the next to commit to Notre Dame?

There is no such thing as the off-season when it comes to college football.  Although games won’t be played until late August, plenty is still occurring.  The second signing period for the 2023 recruiting cycle opens in just a couple of weeks, the transfer portal seemingly never lets things sleep, and coaching changes can happen at any time.

Furthermore, recruiting for the 2024 class is all systems go.  Notre Dame started this past weekend by blitzing the locals in Indiana and Chicagoland before hosting a huge recruiting weekend on campus.  Now predictions for who the next Fighting Irish commitments might be are rolling in.

Tom Loy of Irish Illustrated and 247Sports is as respected of recruiting reporter/analyst as there is in Notre Dame football.  He made nine crystal ball predictions for 2024 recruits on Monday (Jan. 16, 2023), eight of which he pegged to Notre Dame.  Here is a little info on those eight Irish targets.

Notre Dame stays active on recruiting trail, offers instate 2024 offensive tackle

No rest for the Irish staff

The [autotag]Notre Dame Football[/autotag] staff is not taking the holiday weekend off. In fact they are going hard. We already noted that they have been super active on Friday, visiting multiple schools in Illinois and Indiana.

It was not different today, as Hamilton Southeastern 2024 offensive lineman [autotag]Styles Prescod[/autotag] was offered a scholarship this afternoon. The six-foot-six-inch and 265-pound tackle has seen his recruiting pick up over the last few months.

Pittsburgh, Kansas, Duke, and Kentucky offered Prescod during that time before the Irish pulled the trigger. He lists himself as a 3-star prospect on his twitter, but when Notre Dame offers any offensive line prospect, it means they can play at the Power-5 level.
