Broncos QB Drew Lock posts funny tweet after returning to practice

After returning to practice Tuesday, Broncos quarterback Drew Lock joked that he had almost forgotten how to put on a helmet.

Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Drew Lock injured his thumb in a preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 19 and was placed on injured reserve. He hadn’t practiced for nearly three months before finally returning to the field on Tuesday.

After completing his first practice of the regular season, Lock jokingly tweeted that he had almost forgotten how to put on his helmet.

Broncos fans seemed to appreciate Lock’s sense of humor and voiced their support for the QB to get playing time as soon as possible.

Lock is still on injured reserve so he is not yet eligible to play. Denver has three weeks to decide if he will be activated to the 53-man roster or spend the rest of the season on reserve.

When starting quarterback Joe Flacco went down with a neck injury two weeks ago, Brandon Allen was named the new starter. Allen will start again against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday and Allen will likely start against the Buffalo Bills in Week 13.

Lock might have to wait until December to get a chance to start.

Vote for your favorite Falcons players to make the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl

The 2020 NFL Pro Bowl vote is now open, and while it hasn’t been a great year for the Falcons, there are still some players worthy of the honor.

The 2020 NFL Pro Bowl vote is now open, and while it hasn’t been a great year for the Falcons, there are still some players worthy of the honor.

Defensive tackle Grady Jarrett is among the most deserving. He leads the defense with 5.5 sacks, and has been the team’s most consistent player through the first nine games.

Wide receiver Julio Jones is in the middle of another great season, while tight end Austin Hooper, despite his recent injury, is certainly deserving of his second consecutive trip to the Pro Bowl.

Make sure to vote for all of your favorite Falcons players.

Steelers vs Browns injury update: James Conner returns to practice

Things are looking up for the Steelers on the injury front.

[jwplayer 5nmiAoLM-ThvAeFxT]

On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers got together for what is essentially their only real workout of the week. The team will do a Friday walkthrough on Wednesday ahead of Thursday’s game with the Cleveland Browns but this is the one shot to truly evaluate the health of the roster. And the good news from practice is injured running back James Conner was back and was a full participant.

Additionally, guard Ramon Foster was a full participant as he continues to deal with a concussion. However, there’s been no official word from the team that Foster is out of concussion protocol so his status is still unknown.

Running back Benny Snell Jr., fullback Roosevelt Nix and wide receiver Ryan Switzer were all DNP on Tuesday and their status is in jeopardy. Linebackers Ola Adeniyi and Anthony Chickillo were both limited on Tuesday but could see more reps on Wednesday.

Will the Steelers be at Colin Kaepernick’s workout?

The NFL is hosting a workout for teams to check out quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

ESPN reporter Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday that former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick will hold a workout in Atlanta on Saturday. This workout was not set up by Kaepernick or his reps. It was orchestrated by the NFL and will be a chance for Kaepernick to show he’s ready to play, as well as interview with teams.

The former San Francisco 49ers QB hasn’t played since the 2016 season, during which he and then-teammate Eric Reid ignited a firestorm by kneeling during the national anthem as a way to protest social injustice. This year, Kaepernick and Reid settled collusion lawsuits against the league in which they alleged they were blackballed because of their protests.

The question isn’t whether the Steelers should be present at Kaepernick’s workout. It’s more simple than that. Will the Steelers be there?

[polldaddy poll=10456908]

I tend to believe even with the issues the Steelers have at quarterback, they will not send anyone to the workout. With the injuries Pittsburgh has dealt with at the position, they have had ample opportunity to seek out Kaepernick on their own. It doesn’t make much sense for them to do it now.

But I want to hear from you. Will the Steelers be there? Cast your vote. Or share your thoughts on the Steelers Wire forum.

Falcons LB Foye Oluokun was PFF’s highest-graded defender vs. Saints

The team nearly doubled its sack total and contained Drew Brees for most of the day. Second-year linebacker Foye Oluokun had himself a day as well, leading Atlanta with eight tackles on Sunday.

The Falcons played their best defensive game of the season by a mile on Sunday, holding the Saints to just nine points in New Orleans.

Atlanta nearly doubled its 2019 sack total and contained quarterback Drew Brees for most of the game. Second-year linebacker Foye Oluokun had himself a day as well, leading the team with eight tackles in Week 10.

While his role hasn’t been as big as it was last season when the team lost Deion Jones for most of the year, Oluokun has shown in limited time that he can be a productive part of this Falcons defense.

According to Pro Football Focus, Oluokun was the team’s highest-graded defender — earning a PFF grade of 85.5:

In just 29 snaps, Oluokun was able to make his presence felt, even though that accounted for only 43 percent of Atlanta’s defensive plays. It was the most the former Yale standout has played all season.

Oluokun’s role should grow going forward with the team currently 2-7 and unlikely to make the playoffs.

Private workout for QB Colin Kaepernick to be held in Atlanta

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a workout for former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick will be held on Saturday in Atlanta.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a workout for former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick will be held on Saturday in Atlanta.

All 32 NFL teams are invited to attend and will get the chance to interview Kaepernick, Schefter said. The league will also make a video of the workout and interview available to each team.

Kaepernick, who last played in 2016, has thrown for 12,271 yards, 72 touchdowns and 30 interceptions for a passer rating of 88.9. He’s rushed for an additional 2,300 yards and 13 touchdowns over his 69 career games.

UPDATE: Kaepernick has since confirmed the report on Twitter:

Broncos QB Drew Lock not guaranteed to return from IR

“[He’s] one of the two that we can bring off IR,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said. “That doesn’t [necessarily] mean that he’ll be activated.”

Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock (thumb) is still on injured reserve but the rookie quarterback returned to practice Tuesday, a positive sign in his recovery. During his media availability Monday, coach Vic Fangio was asked about how many reps Lock will get this week.

“We’ll try to get him as many as we can,” Fangio said. “Some of that will be scout team, too. You’ve got to remember this guy hasn’t taken a snap or been in the huddle since the middle of August.”

Lock injured his thumb during a preseason game on Aug. 19 and hasn’t practiced since then. When he returned to practice Tuesday, Lock triggered a 21-day window for the Broncos to make a decision about his season. Denver has three weeks to decide if the QB will return to the active roster or spend the rest of the season on reserve.

Fangio was asked Monday if there’s a mapped-out plan for Lock’s transition from injured reserve to the 53-man roster and the coach was non-committal about Lock’s potential return.

“No, it’s not mapped because it’s going to be determined by how he looks and what we think,” Fangio said.

The coach was then asked directly if Lock will be activated this year.

“[He’s] one of the two that we can bring off IR,” Fangio said. “That doesn’t [necessarily] mean that he’ll be activated.”

NFL teams are allowed to bring back two players from IR per season. Wide receiver Tim Patrick is expected to be brought back this week — Lock might be the second player brought back.

Asked what will need to happen for Lock to be activated, Fangio said he needs to see “good quarterback play” and for the rookie QB to show that he belongs. So it’s up to Lock to perform well in practice.

Dan Quinn impressed with Kaleb McGary’s fight against Cam Jordan

Prior to the Falcons’ Week 10 defensive outburst, they had recorded just seven total sacks through their first eight games. In contrast, Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan had personally tallied eight sacks entering Sunday’s game.

Prior to the Falcons’ Week 10 defensive outburst, they had recorded just seven total sacks through their first eight games. In contrast, Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan had personally tallied eight sacks entering Sunday’s contest.

Atlanta’s shocking six-sack performance become the biggest headline from the team’s 26-9 upset win over New Orleans, although the offensive line deserves some credit as well.

The Falcons kept the Saints’ powerful offense off of the field by winning the time of possession battle, thanks in large part to the way they played up front against one of the best defenses in the NFL this season.

Atlanta’s offensive line allowed just one sack and kept an injured Matt Ryan upright for most of the day. Rookie right tackle Kaleb McGary has been solid for most of the year, but was especially good on Sunday.

He held Jordan in check and never once shied away from the challenge. Watch for yourself as Brian Baldinger breaks down the team’s offensive line play below:

Falcons coach Dan Quinn noticed as well, appreciating the way McGary battled against one of the league’s best defensive ends.

Atlanta could get their other first-round pick, guard Chris Lindstrom, back in a few weeks, although it may take another season to know what the team has in the former Boston College standout.

For now, the Falcons have to feel pretty good about what they’ve seen from McGary.

Broncos drop 2 spots in NFL power rankings after bye week

Despite not having a game last week, the Broncos fell two spots in NFL power rankings.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”CxUFCIdzwx-651601-7498″]

Despite not playing in a game last week, the Denver Broncos (3-6) have dropped two spots in Nate Davis’ latest NFL power rankings for USA TODAY Sports. Denver is now ranked No. 25, considered one of the eight-worst teams in the league (at least in the eyes of Davis).

Here is Davis’ commentary with the Broncos’ ranking:

We could be in for the quarterback battle America never wanted — Brandon Allen vs. Drew Lock with rookie set to resume practicing this week.

The Broncos placed quarterback Joe Flacco (neck) on injured reserve two weeks ago and Allen started in his place and led the team to a 24-19 win over the Cleveland Browns. Allen is expected to start again in Week 11.

Lock (thumb) is still on injured reserve but he returned to practice Tuesday. Denver has 21 days to decide if Lock will be activated to the 53-man roster or remain on reserve for the rest of the season.

The Baltimore Ravens (7-2) are ranked No. 1 and the Cincinnati Bengals (0-9) are ranked No. 32. To view the complete power rankings, click here.
