Stevie Johnson named ‘Legend of the Game’ for Bills vs. Broncos

Stevie Johnson named ‘Legend of the Game’ for #Bills vs. #Broncos:

Stevie Johnson has been in western New York recently and he’s coming back once again.

The Buffalo Bills have announced that Johnson will be back in Orchard Park and honored on Monday during the team’s game against the Denver Broncos. He will be the “Legend of the Game.”

Last week, the former Bills wide receiver helped the team name co-founder of Bills Mafia, Del Reid, as the team’s 2023 Fan of the Year.

Monday it’s Johnson’s turn to be honored and as always, the former fan favorite is happy to be back in Buffalo.

“The pregame is where it’s at,” Johnson told the team’s website. “First of all, just flying in, preparing yourselves to go to get some good food, some good wings and then hitting Niagara Falls because you got to see it. And then just being in the lot, there’s so many things that’s going on, it’s like a party. It’s just full of festivities. With me being like an OG in the game now, going to the stadium is a whole different feeling now, so that’s electric and it’s pretty cool seeing the evolution of the Bills organization.”

Prior to kickoff, Johnson will be one of the first ones out of the tunnel at Highmark Stadium. He’ll pump Bills Mafia up just ahead of the opening kick and team introductions.

Get to your seats early to see Johnson’s acknowledgement.

The highest-graded Bills receivers during the PFF era is a (mostly) fun list

The highest-graded wide receivers during the PFF era is a (mostly) fun list

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbw1j59gmjw5gdj player_id=none image=https://billswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Well, three out of four ain’t bad…

Pro Football Focus sent out a list on their social media account on Twitter this week. It regarded the all-time best Buffalo Bills wide receivers.

That is, in the PFF era.

The football analytics outlet began in 2006, so no disrespect to Andre Reed and others. They just weren’t around then.

But there were some other pretty solid wideouts that have suited up for the Bills in that time frame. Stefon Diggs is at the top of that ranking and could continue to add to his successes.

Not only did he become the team’s first-ever first-team All-Pro, he signed an extension this offseason. As long as his partnership with quarterback Josh Allen continues to grow, there’s something special in the makings there.

But even without great quarterbacking some Buffalo receivers have stood out during PFF’s day.

How about Stevie Johnson or Lee Evans? Fan favorites during the drought.

Then… there’s Sammy Watkins. A good rookie year that turned into a bummer.

Regardless, those four were the ones that took home the best grades for Bills wide receivers in the PFF era. Check out their numbers below:

Stevie Johnson announces #Bills’ James Cook pick, sets record straight (video):

When the Buffalo Bills selected Georgia running back James Cook after two trades back in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft… it was worth the wait.

Former Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson was tabbed as the man who would come and announce the selection. He nailed it.

Johnson made sure to note one important thing: The Bills are the only football team in New York.

Sorry Jets and Giants.

Former Bills WR Stevie Johnson holds football camp in Buffalo

Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson held football camp in western New York.

Over the weekend, former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson held a football camp for the first time in Western New York. Johnson’s foundation, “Handle Biz, Have Fun,” held the event and took place at Amherst High School’s Dimp Wagner Field.

Johnson, a California native, told the Buffalo News that the reason he wanted to come back and hold the camp was because of the way the community accepted him when he started his career with the Bills in 2008.

“The city took me in (during my playing career),” Johnson said. “How do I repay them aside from playing football? I can’t play forever. So, I come back by spreading my game, my techniques and my knowledge to the youth.”

Johnson added: “This is what we do on the West Coast so being able to bring it back to Buffalo is special.”

Per the report, the camp came together very quickly, in about three weeks. Johnson raffled off items to campers during the free event, too.

Johnson was a seventh-round pick of the Bills out of Kentucky in 2008. He spent the first six of his eight NFL seasons with the Bills before playing for the 49ers and Chargers to round out his career in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

Bills in the 2010s: Best offensive players of the decade

Here are the best players of the 2010s for Buffalo’s offense.

The 2010s have come to a close. The Buffalo Bills found much more success toward the end of this decade, as the team broke their 17-season playoff drought in 2017 and then returns to post-season play following the 2019 season.

Let’s thank general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott for the massive turnaround in this team’s fortunes.

Now that the calendar shifts to 2020, it gives us a natural break to take a look back at the progress of the Bills over the past 10 years. Many players (coaches and front office personnel, as well) have come and gone through One Bills Drive.

Here are the best players of the 2010s for Buffalo’s offense:

Quarterback: Tyrod Taylor

There’s a lot going on with the Bills quarterbacks over the past decades. Buffalo had 10 quarterbacks who started double-digit games for the team. Interestingly enough, three of the five led Buffalo to a winning record in games that they started. Each of the top-three players on this list has their successes and flaws.

While Ryan Fitzpatrick led the decade averaging over 227 yards passing per game, the nod goes to Taylor. The Virginia Tech product had the best passer rating, interception percentage, and average yards per attempt among the top-three options. He also led the Bills to 22 victories in his three seasons as the team’s signal-caller, the most of all quarterbacks.

Now, the ascension of Josh Allen has been impressive, to say the least. His six come-from-behind victories lead the group, and his 56-percent winning percentage is four-percent better than Taylor’s. As Allen’s passing stats improve, he will surely top Taylor in the long run with respect to Bills historical numbers. For now, Allen will probably be the top quarterback for the next decade in Buffalo lore.
